BBC Strictly fans fume about underwhelming line-up - 'They're scraping the barrel!'
Strictly Come Dancing will return to our screens this autumn for the 23rd series, but fans have already been left feeling 'underwhelmed' over this year's line-up.
As the biggest show on the BBC, there are high expectations for the celebrities we see take part in each series, and it's assumed that there should be a big budget to spend. Although, with this year's announcements, fans seem to think the BBC may be being a little bit tight with their celeb spending.
To crank up the excitement, the show's social media team has been dropping an announcement for each contestant. Among the names we can expect to see on the show including Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Love Island's Dani Dyer and Doctor Who star Alex Kingston.

While some excitement was garnered for the likes of Vicky Pattinson and YouTube star George Clarke, plenty of people were left wanting more. As BBC bosses revealed Lioness and broadcaster Karen Carney and Hollywood correspondent for Lorraine, Ross King, viewers spoke up.
Strictly fans were quick to flood the comments of the post with their opinions – and many of them didn't hold back. One user wrote: "Not really into the lineup this year. It feels a little underwhelming for me; however, I can't wait to see them all dance and all be partnered."
Another person shared: "How many more reveals are there? Hoping there's going to be someone exciting still." Adding to the feelings of disappointment, someone wrote: "Is it me, or are they really scraping the barrel for these 'celebrities'? It feels like the Z-list reboot."
"You're having a laugh now; this lineup is tragic," a disappointed viewer wrote. "Oop, scraping the barrel so hard it's breaking," another chimed in.
Others were quick to defend the show and seemed excited about the mixture of faces, both familiar and new to them. They wrote: "Honestly, I don't know how people can moan about the line-up; we haven't seen them dance yet or seen their willingness to learn! Don't like it? Watch something else!"
In a similar tone, one user said: "People are so moody this year. It's the same every year. ' This line-up is bad, waaa waaa waaa,' yet every year we always enjoy it lmao. Stop expecting Brad Pitt and Celine Dion and face reality."

In the video, Honey wore a small pair of floral-patterned shorts and a vest top. She also donned an oversized pair of sunglasses as she danced to the tune. Fans were quick to praise the star for her fun post. One user in the comments section gushed: "honey g your [sic] still an icon." They added two flame emojis. Another user also added a comment of four flame emojis, while another added: "Aww check yooooo," with a raised hands emoji. The TV personality previously explained she had "changed her body" after a series of gym routines during the Covid pandemic. She added she had also taken up running. Speaking to Daily Star in 2023, the musician said: "I had a personal trainer for a year and a half, almost two years and we worked a lot on strength training and I started to see, coupled with all the running I was doing, I started to see my body change." Honey confessed at the time: "That's why not a lot of people recognise me in the street anymore, it says online I'm unrecognisable which is true. "But yeah, I'm not saying I miss being chased through a shopping centre by school kids, but seriously, in all honesty, when I started to see body shape change, it spurred me on even more.' She also told Closer magazine: "I used to wear loose and baggy clothes that went up to a size 18, but I've thrown most of them away as my taste has matured. It was only the first day of Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals yesterday – but some of the show's class of 2025 are already making sure their feet remain in pristine condition. Good Morning Britain and Lorraine's Los Angeles reporter Ross King even took a £30 Revlon Pediprep spa with him to the London studios. The device promises a 'relaxing, bubbling foot massage'. BBC's Survivor is 'AXED after just one series' despite bosses splurging £30 million on the reboot series
The BBC has reportedly pulled the plug on big-budget challenge series Survivor, despite splashing the cash on the reboot. The reality show which had a prime time slot straight after Strictly Come is understood to have cost the BBC £30 million, failed to win over UK viewers, averaging just 2.6million when it aired last October. After months of speculation, host Joel Dommett confirmed the axe and admitted to The Sun: 'It just shows you how nothing is a given in telly. I thought Survivor would be huge. I thought that would be my job for the next 20 years.' The TV presenter, 40, added: 'I've done shows and thought that's not coming back and it keeps coming back and then you do something like Survivor, which you think is guaranteed and it doesn't come back.' The challenge show sees contestants live on a remote location where they are tasked with fending for themselves by sourcing food and water, building shelter, and making fire, all while trying to earn rewards and immunity from being voted off the island. The hit format has enjoyed global success, especially in the US, where it's run for 25 years, but it seems the UK version, failed to translate. Despite a previous attempt by ITV, which ended after two series in 2001 and 2002, the BBC tried to revive the format when it premiered last October and filmed in the Dominican Republic. It is thought producers had hoped to cash in on the nostalgia of the early-2000s version, but bosses were left scratching their heads at the lack of love for a concept 'beloved around the globe'. The cancellation comes just a year after filming wrapped, with a source telling The Sun that executives had been debating the show's future since its lukewarm launch. Despite the flop, Joel remains in high demand and is set to front the National Television Awards in September and star in ITV's new Celebrity Sabotage. Earlier this month The Daily Mail reported that the BBC did seek potential contestants for a second series, at the end of last year, via their 'take part' page. However, a note on the Survivor UK website says casting has now been paused, adding: 'As things stand, we are not processing or taking any further applications at this time.' Staff on the show have all moved to other projects. Paul Osborne, who successfully brought Big Brother to Channel 5, was the showrunner for the BBC, and took soundings from format consultants around the world about how it should be updated. Osborne said at the launch: 'There were lots and lots of things we learned from other territories, while we were also able to put our own stamp on this. 'There is a little more strategic gameplay with the new version that is palpable for a modern audience.' Survivor was commissioned by Kalpna Patel-Knight, the BBC's head of entertainment, who described its return as a 'renaissance rather than a reboot'. She had hoped it would attract an audience similar to the Beeb's smash-hit The Traitors. Sixteen episodes were filmed in 34 days, with 100 camera crew from the UK, plus more than 400 local workers. The £100,000 top prize was won by graduate Matthew Hayward, from Cumbria. The two original series had a prize of £1 million.
