Federal govt aims for 3 Jualan Rahmah sales weekly in Miri, says MP
MIRI (Aug 3): The federal government aims to organise an average of three 'Jualan Rahmah' sales per week in Miri to help ease the financial burden of locals, said Miri MP Chiew Choon Man.
He said this follows the increase of the programme's allocation to RM600 million as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 23.
'Once the new allocation is disbursed and the implementation mechanism is finalised, we aim to conduct up to 12 Rahmah Sales per month, or an average of three a week,' he said in a statement yesterday.
Earlier, Chiew visited a Jualan Rahmah Madani programme at Surau Darul Falah, Kampung Lembah Hijau Riam, organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in collaboration with Emart Supermarket Riam.
The Jualan Rahmah Madani programme was also held simultaneously at SMK Pujut.
According to Chiew, the Jualan Rahmah initiative offers essential items such as rice, eggs, chicken, cooking oil, flour, and milk powder at up to 30 per cent discount to help reduce the cost of living.
'For the programme at Surau Darul Falah, 19 essential items were offered at subsidised prices, making it easier for residents to obtain daily necessities at more affordable rates,' he said.
Chiew said that as of August 2, a total of 59 Jualan Rahmah programmes have been held in the Miri parliamentary constituency, averaging seven to eight sales per month.
'This is a marked increase compared to four to five monthly sales in 2024,' he noted.
He also commended participating supermarkets for going the extra mile by offering promotions on other products during the programme, further increasing the benefits for the community.
'This shows the government's continued commitment to reaching out directly to both rural and urban communities and ensuring that assistance reaches the people in a meaningful way.'
Chiew expressed his appreciation to the Madani Government and KPDN for their sustained efforts in addressing the rising cost of living, adding that such community-based programmes should be strengthened and expanded moving forward. Chiew Choon Man Jualan Rahmah lead miri

JAPEN expands Jalur Gemilang campaign to industrial sector
PUTRAJAYA: The Information Department (JAPEN), in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), will extend the '1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang' campaign to the industrial sector. This initiative aims to further enliven the spirit of the 2025 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. JAPEN's Communications and Community Development Service Division director Muhammad Najmi Mustapha said the collaboration will initially focus on selected petrol stations and supermarkets in the Klang Valley, with implementation set to begin in the near future. 'We (JAPEN) will expand this campaign not only within government agencies but also to the industrial sector, in cooperation with the KPDN,' he said. 'Together with KPDN, we will identify strategic locations such as petrol stations and selected supermarkets for the installation of the Jalur Gemilang,' he told reporters after presenting JAPEN's Jalur Gemilang Kit to the Putrajaya district police headquarters (IPD) here today. Muhammad Najmi said the '1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang' campaign aims to foster a sense of patriotism among the public, while ensuring that the patriotic spirit remains strong, symbolising the pride and unity of an independent nation. He said the campaign commenced following the launch of the 2025 National Month and the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign in Muar, Johor on July 27, and will run until Sept 16. 'We are not only carrying out this campaign in Putrajaya, but nationwide through state-level JAPEN offices, with the involvement of 1,878 MADANI Communities across the country, including Sabah and Sarawak,' he said, adding that between 200 and 300 Jalur Gemilang flags will be distributed at each location. Meanwhile, Presint 11 Police Station chief Sub-Inspector Amir Jaafar described the collaborative campaign between JAPEN and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) as a meaningful initiative that not only fosters patriotism but also strengthens the relationship between PDRM and other government agencies. He noted that today's programme was highlighted by a symbolic convoy involving PDRM and JAPEN personnel, covering a distance of 6.8 kilometres from the Putrajaya IPD to the Presint 11 Police Station - representing the country's 68 years of independence. Amir added that the spirit of patriotism is clearly evident within the police quarters, as all 48 staff housing units at the Presint 11 Police Station have been proudly displaying the Jalur Gemilang since last month in support of the National Month campaign. - Bernama

Perak KPDN busts LPG syndicate, six detained
BATU GAJAH: The Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has busted an illegal liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) decanting operation, detaining a 35-year-old local man and five Myanmar nationals believed to be his workers. The raid, conducted yesterday under Ops Gasak 2025, was the result of a week-long intelligence operation targeting suspected misuse of controlled goods. KPDN director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said officers found 1,899 LPG cylinders, weighing 14kg each, at the premises. "We seized all 1,899 cylinders, comprising 871 filled and 1,028 empty units," he said, adding that the total seizure amounted to 18,194kg of LPG, with an estimated market value of RM66,508.60. Kamalludin said that decanting is the illegal process of transferring LPG from subsidised 14kg cylinders into other containers, often to be sold at higher, non-subsidised rates for commercial use. The premises had no valid licences or documents under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. He said a 35-year-old local man, believed to be the owner, was detained along with five Myanmar nationals, who were suspected to be workers. The syndicate reportedly sourced subsidised 14kg LPG cylinders from wholesalers across Perak and other states. The gas was transferred to bulk tanks, from which lorries would refill and deliver to commercial clients, such as factories and hotels. Kamalludin said the price gap between the subsidised rate of RM1.90 per kg and the market ceiling price of about RM5 per kg created a lucrative opportunity for the syndicate, which sold to industries at slightly below market rates. He said the syndicate had only been operating for about a month before the authorities intervened, adding that this was one of the largest LPG-related raids in Perak this year. Individuals found guilty of such offences could face fines of up to RM1 million, three years' imprisonment, or both. Corporate offenders may be fined up to RM2 million for a first offence and RM5 million for repeat offences. KPDN's commitment to curbing the illegal distribution and misuse of controlled goods would continue under Ops Gasak 2025.
