PM Modi holds massive roadshow in Bihar's Siwan; Nitish Kumar says ‘Have you ever seen such a big crowd?'
Narendra Modi was accompanied by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a key ally, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha—both senior BJP leaders—in a clear display of unity within the NDA. The alliance is gearing up for the critical assembly elections set to take place in the coming months.
PM Modi greeted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as he took the stage at a public meeting in Siwan. CM Nitish Kumar said, 'You must recall what was the situation prior to the NDA government in the state. The opposition is spreading canards. They must be asked what the situation was before our government was formed. People could go out of their houses... the situation was so bad. You all have gathered in such huge numbers to listen to PM Modi. I congratulate you all.'
Modi also handed over the first instalment to more than 53,600 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) and marked the Grih Pravesh ceremony for over 6,600 completed houses by handing over keys to select beneficiaries.
Prime Minister Modi launched 28 development projects worth more than ₹ 5,900 crore in Bihar's Siwan district. Modi inaugurated the new Vaishali–Deoria railway line project, built at a cost of over ₹ 400 crore, and flagged off a new train service on this route.
Earlier in the day, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, in a post on X wrote, 'Today the people of Bihar are eagerly waiting for Modi ji, from energy to railways, from housing to export…..he (the PM) is bringing many gifts for the people of the state during his 51st visit to Bihar today'.
Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Union ministers and several officials were present on the occasion.

AIADMK ex-MP joins rival DMK
Three-time Rajya Sabha member MP V Maitreyan on Wednesday quit AIADMK and joined the ruling DMK on Wednesday becoming the second leader who was once in the good books of J Jayalalithaa, to join her arch rival. Recently, AIADMK's Muslim face Anwar Raajhaa joined the DMK saying that the Edappadi Palaniswami-led Dravidian major, the chief opposition of Tamil Nadu, is trapped in ally BJP's hands. V Maitreyan (PTI) Maitreyan had previously left the AIADMK and joined BJP in 2023 – where he began his political career – after Jayalalithaa's death and went back to the EPS-led party in 2024. EPS appointed him as organising secretary but Maitreyan, an oncologist, had remained sidelined. Maitreyan is associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He quit the BJP and joined the AIADMK in 1999 after the national party formed an alliance with the DMK. 'The path that the AIADMK is taking isn't right. The alliance with BJP was announced by Union home minister Amit Shah, not Palaniswami,' Maitreyan said. 'They talk about a common minimum programme (CMP) which cannot work on issues such as the language policy. Delhi has the switchboard. The AIADMK leadership just does what Delhi wants them to do….The contest in the 2026 assembly is only about who will be in the second position since it is clear that the DMK will emerge victorious.' Maitreyan said his decision to join the ruling DMK was to 'guard the Tamil land, language and the state's dignity (Mann, mozhi, maanam kappom, a DMK slogan).' Maitreyan's exit comes at a time when the AIADMK and BJP are contradicting each other on forming a coalition government in Tamil Nadu. Shah has pitched for a government formed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) if they win the 2026 elections while the AIADMK has rejected the idea since the state has never seen power sharing. Jayalalithaa had made Maitreyan her point person in Delhi for the party. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha thrice and was the party's floor leader in the Upper House for a long time before he was sacked from the post in 2014. After Jayalalithaa's death in 2016, Maitreyan sided with expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam who had officiated as chief minister thrice when Jayalalithaa had to leave the post due to legal cases or her health. After he joined the DMK in the presence of chief minister MK Stalin in the party headquarters on Wednesday, EPS released a statement expelling him from the AIADMK. Though Maitreyan's exit is unlikely to cause any significant dent to the AIADMK, ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, it is significant for the incumbent DMK that leaders of its arch rival are joining them. While the governor, initially thinking it was a mistake, reached out to her, her body language reportedly showed that she didn't want to take the certificate from him and Ravi smiled and appeared to be saying 'okay' and turned to the next candidate. 'I did this only out of concern for my state,' she said after receiving her degree which she said is a PhD in MBA. 'The governor's actions are against Tamil and Tamil Nadu. It was my decision. I have a choice about from whom I can receive my degree. That's why I didn't want to accept my doctorate from him.' She is currently working as a senior manager in a private company in Nagercoil. 'I believe in the Dravidian Model governance (of the DMK) so based on that I thought this was not right. I am questioning the system…I didn't speak anything against the governor to protect the dignity of my state.' The scenes escalated politically outside the university. The BJP asked the DMK functionaries to stop such dramas to gain fame within the party. 'Chief minister MK Stalin must advise his party members not to bring the DMK's low-grade politics into educational institutions,' said former BJP state president K Annamalai. 'There are more people in Tamil Nadu who dislike the DMK. If they too behave in the same manner, where will the chief ,inister MK Stalin hide his face?' The DMK did not react to the controversy. Meanwhile, DMK's allies – Congress, VCK, and Left parties — announced that they will boycott the 'At Home' party hosted by governor on Independence Day.

BJP leader at RWA meet: ‘One Nation, One Election will make India strong… Trump won't be able to make false claims'
The implementation of 'One Nation, One Election' will strengthen the Indian economy and make the country so strong that US President Donald Trump won't be able to make claims about stopping the India-Pakistan war, Sunil Bansal, BJP National General Secretary said at a meeting with Residents' Welfare Association (RWA) members in South Delhi on Wednesday. Referring to Trump's claims, which India has denied, Bansal said: 'Our GDP will rise, we will become the third-largest economy… If working days will increase, our productivity will also rise. Therefore, this is not just a question of holding elections, it is about creating a Viksit Bharat. If we also want to be counted in the category of (strong) nations so that Trump can not dare to tweet that the ceasefire was brokered by him, 140 crore Indians will have to think about this.' Bansal addressed members of various RWAs at the Safdarjung Club in Safdarjung Enclave. He was accompanied by BJP New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, Malviya Nagar MLA Satish Upadhyay, RK Puram MLA Anil Sharma and Greater Kailash MLA Shikha Rai. This is among the first such events being organised to galvanise support for the party's ambitious move. 'One Nation, One Election' is a major poll plank of the BJP, which argues that synchronous elections to Lok Sabha and state Assemblies will enable governments to focus on governance rather than perpetual campaigning. At the meeting, Bansal also stated the government's intentions of creating a permanent electoral roll. 'With One Nation One Election, polls will be held on the basis of one voter list. Currently, there is a new voter list for every election…. Crores of government money is spent on preparing voter lists repeatedly'. He said that simultaneous polls are also necessary due to increasing expenditure on elections: Rs. 1.35 lakh crore was spent on 2024 Lok Sabha elections and Rs. 4-5 lakh crores are spent on assembly elections. 'Imagine if a family has two sons and both of them have turned 21. You also have to get them married. You decided to get them married together in one function. Won't you have to spend half on food now? Won't you have to spend half everywhere else also? This is basically One Nation One Election,' Swaraj, who is also a member of the JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee) on Bills related to 'One Nation One Election', said, arguing that it will lead to less expenditure on elections and help contain voter fatigue.
