Horrified reporter 'steps on missing girl's body' while covering her case
A reporter was left horrified thinking he accidentally stepped on the body of a girl who went missing while swimming in a river in Brazil.
Lenildo Frazão entered the water to show how deep it was while he was filming a piece about the 13-year-old's disappearance.
The victim, named only as Raíssa, went missing while cooling off with friends in the Mearim River, in Bacabal, north-eastern Brazil.
Standing in the water up to his chest, Lenildo flinched and then leapt up as he felt something brush against him beneath the surface.
He called out to his team in Portuguese: 'I think there's something down here at the bottom of the water.'
He then stepped back, visibly nervous, saying: 'No, I'm not going, I'm scared. It looks like an arm. Could it be her?
'But it might be a fish too, I don't know.'
After his report, firefighters and divers resumed the search for the child on June 30. More Trending
The girl's body was found at the spot where the reporter had been filming, NeedToKnow reported.
Lenildo reported the Mearim River's current was strong and there were 'holes' in the riverbed.
A post-mortem examination did not reveal any signs of violence and the cause of death was determined as accidental drowning.
Raíssa was laid to rest on the evening of June 30.

A horrified mum discovered a hissing 7ft snake slithering through her child's bedroom. Natasha Robinson thought her fiancé Gary Minshull was playing a prank when she discovered the Taiwanese Beauty Rat Snake in their children's bedroom. Natasha and her 40-year-old health, safety and quality manager partner contained the snake for two hours before a couple living locally, who own exotic pets, took it away. Taiwanese Beauty Rat Snakes are a non-venomous constrictor snake butthey can grow up to 10ft long. It's legal to keep without a licence in Britain and they are usually docile but can strike if they perceive a threat. 'One of my sons is autistic, he would've grabbed it. I dread to think what could've happened then,' Natasha said. Natasha believes the snake may have got into their house before last month's incident through an open window. Although now safely fostered, she spent the days after the incident frantically checking the bed in case another one got in. Natasha said: 'The children weren't frightened of it, they thought it was really cool having a snake in their bedroom. 'It was totally bizarre. You'd think if it was a loved pet it would've been claimed. 'We have been like celebrities around here ever since, I'm asked about it constantly.' Thief hides 76 bottles of stolen wine in wheelie bin and flees in tuk-tuk
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A tuk-tuk driver was caught on CCTV using a wheelie bin to steal 76 bottles of wine in thefts that amounted to £24,000. Iuliu Kubola broke into a restaurant in central London on May 6 before loading the haul into his pedicab and cycling away. The 61-year-old was arrested when a vigilant police officer recognised him as a person of interest following a police briefing. PC Jordan Felstead stopped the Islington resident outside a bar in the Cornhill financial heartland on June 22. After making enquiries with the City of London Police's Criminal Investigations Department, he discovered that Kubola was a suspect connected to a spate of burglaries. He had been seen on CCTV taking the bottles of wine, putting them into the bin and loading it into the back of his pedicab. Kubola returned to the Threadneedle Street restaurant on June 15 to steal a further three bottles, worth around £680. He went back four days later but left without taking anything. Det Con Marcus Fairclough, of the Criminal Investigation Department, said: 'Thanks to the good work by our officers, who spotted him and quickly made enquiries and the arrest, Iuliu Kubola will face the consequences of his criminality. 'Burglary has a significant impact on businesses and residential communities. 'We will attend all reports of break-ins in the city; giving us the best chance of making an arrest and collecting evidence from a scene. 'We will always take this type of criminality seriously and thoroughly investigate all evidential leads, including forensics, to bring those perpetrators to justice.' Kubola damaged an external door and locks, costing £1,425 to repair. Physical forensics manager Andrew Walker said: 'Our fast response is vital to maximise forensic opportunities and lessen the impact on the victims. 'Being burgled is horrendous; not being able to tidy up or open your business and resume trading exacerbates this massively. More Trending 'The victim is at the heart of everything we do. Delivering them justice, whilst minimising the impact that crime has on them, is the bedrock on which City of London Police Forensic Services operates.' City of London Police said it is one of the few forces where scenes of crimes officers go to every incident where forensics can be recovered and it does not screen out 'low level' crime. EastEnders star confirms different side to Oscar as things take a turn
Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier) is set to do something 'awful' to Peter Beale (Thomas Law) in EastEnders next week. The newcomer has made quite the impact on Albert Square and viewers alike ever since he arrived in the BBC One soap last week. Sister Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) was forced to take him in after being released from a three-month stretch in a young offenders institute, where he'd spent time for joyriding. Their mum Tanya (Jo Joyner) had made it clear that he wasn't welcome to return to her house as a result of the dodgy characters he was hanging around with. When Oscar tipped off the police about their involvement in the car robbery, they attempted to petrol bomb his property, mistakenly targeting the neighbours instead. Despite his attempts to escape his brutish mates, they've tracked him down to Walford and are seeking revenge. 'Oscar feels threatened as Mike (Tai Hilferink) is a serious guy who doesn't seem to care about getting caught or the consequences,' actor Pierre told us. 'Since he arrived in the Square, Oscar has been all fun and games, but you'll see another side of him this week because Mike wants to make him suffer for what he's done!'
