Sorry Marvel Fans, Black Panther Game Cancelled

Geek Feed2 days ago

It was back in 2023 when it was announced that a Black Panther game was in the works, but it looks like that won't be happening at EA anymore.
According to IGN, a recent round of layoffs at EA has led to the cancellation of the Black Panther game, and the closing down of the studio that was working on it, Cliffhanger Games. Not much has been known about the game, but it does come from developers who had worked at Monolith Games while they were making the also-cancelled Wonder Woman game. I even speculated that they were retooling their WW title for BP , but it looks like both projects went down the drain.
As far as we know, Black Panther was supposed to be a single-player, open-world, action game. Though this Panther may not be able to get his title, the character is playable in Marvel Rivals as well as the upcoming game Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra which is expected to come out sometime next year.
Despite the closing of Cliffhanger, EA is still adamant that its partnership with Marvel will continue. Panther was one of a three-game deal which also includes Iron Man as well as another unannounced title. As far as their deal with Marvel goes, the e-mail from EA Entertainment president Laura Miele read, 'Our partnership with Marvel remains strong and our multi-title, long-term collaboration continues.'
No specific release date has been announced for Rise of Hydra , but fans can expect it to come out sometime next year. Marvel Rivals is now playable for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5.

Star Wars Jedi Dev Says Morale is ‘At An All-Time Low' After Recent Layoffs

The gaming industry is kind of at a crossroads with several layoffs happening across multiple studios, and the most recent victim was EA with several devs getting laid off. With EA Games choosing to focus on only a few of their successful franchises, one dev for Star Wars Jedi , Patrick Wren, had commented after the recent layoffs, 'Morale has been at an all-time low. I can say that much.' He follows up the post by saying, ' I am just sorry for everyone who just wants to make cool video games in this industry.' It's odd that the morale for a Star Wars title would be so low right now, seeing that there's been a massive resurgence for 2017's Star Wars Battlefront II which has been reporting record numbers and the biggest number of players since it launched. Live support for the game had ended back in 2020, but so many people have been livestreaming the game, and have been calling for #MakeBattlefront3. After the recent layoffs at EA though, some think that it won't be happening with the studio. On the flip side, the discussion has now shifted over as to which studio would like to take on the Battlefront mantle after BF2. Though no specifics have been explained about the recent layoffs, Wren also did share a post that seems to blame AI for the whole fiasco. Ed Zitron wrote: Here is actually what is happening: braindead management is pushing AI wherever it can, launching it, laying off some people, then realising it can't replace them, then hiring back *less* people than before. AI is used as a soft layoff excuse to dress up flagging growth. — Ed Zitron (@ May 29, 2025 at 3:49 AM We don't know for sure what's going to happen to Jedi 3 , but seeing as it's one of the most popular games to come out for EA, some are guessing it will be their last SW title for now. No release date has been announced for Star Wars Jedi 3 .

Fans are Convinced Marvel is Going to Kill Off Thor in Recent Post from Chris Hemsworth

With Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans bowing out of the MCU after Endgame , it was Chris Hemsworth who was left behind to keep reprising Thor for Marvel Studios. With him expected to make an appearance in Doomsday , a lot of fans are convinced that this could be Hemsworth's last time as the God of Thunder because of a recent statement he made. Hemsworth (via @CultureCrave) wrote: 'Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I've held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me' 'Thank you for making my journey through the MCU unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!' At this point, everyone was already convinced that this means that they could be killing him off in the movie. Fans have replied with, 'Ya he's getting cooked ,' and, ' Oh he's not coming back after Doomsday.' With all of his other co-stars having moved on, it would make sense for Hemsworth to drop out of the MCU eventually. After all, he did go public with a diagnosis of him being susceptible to Alzheimer's disease, and it's possible he could be taking the time to process that. Personally, I was just hoping that they kept him around in a limited role. Thor eventually takes the place of Odin in the comics, and it would have been great if Hemsworth could just stick around in a chair ruling Asgard and being mentor to a new Thor. For now, fans wait for Avengers: Doomsday which comes out Dec. 18, 2026.
