Netflix to stream 'Sesame Street' episodes beginning later this year

CNBC19-05-2025

"Sesame Street" has a new streaming home.
Netflix will stream the next three seasons of "Sesame Street," as well as a library of past episodes, securing the future of the longtime children's program known for characters like Elmo and Cookie Monster.
The deal with Netflix was announced Monday alongside another agreement with PBS, the longtime traditional TV home of "Sesame Street."
Netflix will have the exclusive global premiere streaming rights to new episodes of seasons 56 through 58, according to a Netflix spokesperson. New episodes will also be available on free, publicly funded PBS TV stations in the U.S., and on PBS Kids' digital platforms, including its YouTube channel.
Under the terms of the deal, Netflix will also gain rights to 90 hours of past episodes, and will be able to develop video games for both "Sesame Street" and its spin-off series "Sesame Street Mecha Builders."
The deal comes after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its five-year streaming agreement in December with "Sesame Street" on its platform Max — now, again, called HBO Max — prompting a search for the iconic kids show's next distribution partner. Under the previous deal, episodes debuted on PBS months after they were released on WBD's streaming service, which also has an extensive library of past seasons.
WBD has been cutting back on children's content as Netflix builds out its portfolio of the programming. Earlier this year, episodes of YouTube children's content creator "Ms. Rachel" were added to Netflix.
Kid and family programming represents 15% of Netflix's total viewing, the company said in Monday's release.
WBD reportedly paid $30 million to $35 million per year for new episodes of "Sesame Street." Terms of the deal with Netflix weren't disclosed.
Monday's announcement puts the future of "Sesame Street" on steadier ground after it has reportedly been in the midst of a financial crisis, while also faced with pressure from the government. President Donald Trump signed an executive order earlier this month to end public funding of PBS and National Public Radio, claiming that the organizations are "biased and partisan."
"Public media is essential," said Sara DeWitt, PBS KIDS senior vice president and general manager, "and we know from years of research that providing new, high-quality content to children across the country for free helps prepare them for success in school and life."
"This unique public-private partnership ensures children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access on PBS KIDS to the Sesame Street they love," said Sesame Workshop CEO Sherrie Westin in a press release.
The new season will be "reimagined" to include new segments and format changes, according to the release. The episodes will feature one 11-minute story, to "tell stories with even more character-driven humor and heart."
Season 56 will be released in three batches starting later this year.

Why Couchbase Stock Is Climbing Today

Couchbase reported its fiscal Q1 results yesterday and beat sales and earnings expectations. The software specialist posted strong growth for annual recurring revenue. Couchbase's forward guidance suggests there will be a growth deceleration in Q2, but management expects growth to rebound later in the year. 10 stocks we like better than Couchbase › Couchbase (NASDAQ: BASE) stock is seeing significant gains in Wednesday's trading despite opening the day's trading with sell-offs. The company's share price was up 3.3% as of 3:30 p.m. ET on the heels of the company's recent earnings report. On the other hand, the stock had been down as much as 7.3% early in the session. After market close yesterday, Couchbase published results for the first quarter of its current fiscal year, which ended April 30. The software specialist reported sales and earnings that topped the market's expectations, but the market initially bristled at management's forward guidance before reversing and turning bullish on the stock. In the first quarter of its current fiscal year, Couchbase recorded a non-GAAP (adjusted) loss of $0.06 per share on sales of $56.52 million. For comparison, the average Wall Street analyst target had called for an adjusted loss per share of $0.08 on sales of $55.59 million. Revenue was up roughly 10% year over year in the period, and the company's adjusted loss per share narrowed from $0.10 in the prior-year period despite solid sales expansion. Annual recurring revenue (ARR) stood at $252.1 million at the end of the quarter -- up 21% year over year. For fiscal Q2, Couchbase is guiding for sales to come in between $54.4 million and $55.2 million. While the midpoint of that guidance range suggests a sequential quarterly sales decline, it still suggests year-over-year growth of 6.2%. Macroeconomic uncertainty is factoring into the company's forecast, but management still expects performance to pick up in the second half of the year. For the full year, management is targeting sales between $228.3 million and $232.3 million. If the business were to hit the midpoint of that target, it would mean delivering annual growth of 9.9%. The market will be looking for signs that sales growth is accelerating again after guidance for some slowdown in the current quarter. Tender Moment Nurse Mare Adopts Orphaned Foal As Her Own Has Us in Tears

Tender Moment Nurse Mare Adopts Orphaned Foal As Her Own Has Us in Tears originally appeared on PetHelpful. Welcoming a new baby into the world can be one of life's greatest gifts, but sadly, birth doesn't always go to plan. Utah hairstylist and horse owner @shelbylockhart witnessed this tragedy firsthand after her new foal's mama sadly passed away shortly after bringing her little one Earthside. The orphaned foal refused milk replacer, but Shelby had another plan. She found a nurse mare, or a lactating female horse with no foal to feed, and hoped that the two would connect despite suffering devastating losses. What happened next brought Shelby and thousands of viewers to tears. This mom and baby couldn't be more perfect for one another! These two were meant to be family! This mama horse accepted the new foal with no hesitation or stress, and once the little one latched, she was just as content. It's hard to believe that both of these beautiful horses suffered massive losses just days before they met one another."So how does it work with a nurse mare?" a commenter asked. "She has to have a baby in order to produce milk. Where is her baby? Are they weaned, and you just keep using her to foster other foals?" Baby horses only nurse for the first 4-6 months of life, so producing milk for even longer could be exhausting to a mare. Sadly, this mama horse lost her foal as well, so she's producing milk to feed a baby who's no longer around. That's why these two are a perfect match despite suffering immense heartbreak. It's such a gift to see this moment unfold, but I can only imagine how Shelby and the other equestrians in this video were feeling. This was the silver lining after two tragedies, but it's also the beginning of a beautiful relationship between this adopted mom and daughter. It's heartwarming to see how quickly and naturally these horses have bonded, even if it wasn't Plan A. Nurse mares like this new mom are an absolute gift to the equine world, though she never would have met her foal if it weren't for selfless horse owners like Shelby. We can't wait to see what's in store for these two! Looking for more PetHelpful updates? Follow us on YouTube for more entertaining videos.
