News broke early Wednesday morning that the iconic actor Val Kilmer passed at age 65. The Top Gun and Heat star died of pneumonia, according to his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer. He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, eventually needing to get surgery on his trachea that impacted his ability to speak.
Kilmer's film career started with a role in 1984's Top Secret!, but his big break came in 1986 with his legendary portrayal of Tom "Iceman" Kazansky in Top Gun. Kilmer was known for his charisma on screen, portraying a variety of incredible roles over the course of his career. His last time on screen saw him reunited with Tom Cruise as the pair reprised their roles from Top Gun in the long-awaited sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

One such endeavor has been her new Apple TV+ film Echo Valley, where the Euphoria star plays daughter to as the two battle to keep a dark secret hidden. It was a project she said gave her 'so many reasons' to say yes. 'The character, Claire, is such a multi-layered, troubled young woman,' she explained. 'And being able to explore a character that has so many dimensional relationships with their mother, it's fun.' And working opposite such a powerhouse like Julianne, which Sydney described as 'such a dream,' was an added perk. 'She is beyond kind,' the Euphoria actress gushed. Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning was one for the history books — and the record books, too! For 29 years, Tom has performed a series of death-defying stunts in the Mission: Impossible franchise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. The eighth film, billed as Tom's final outing as Ethan, has grossed over $360 million at the worldwide box office. It also made $200 million worldwide in its first weekend, a record for the franchise. On May 27, Tom shared a message, writing, "This weekend was one for the history books!" congratulating the filmmakers, crew members, everyone involved in the production, and the audiences. Well, it wasn't just one of the history books, because Tom's proclivity to stressing audiences out with wild stunts landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records, too. During Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning, Tom did 16 burning parachute jumps while filming a climactic sequence on a plane. If you've seen the last seven Mission: Impossible movies, you'll know there's always a plane and Tom doing something really scary involved. In a behind-the-scenes video, Tom leaped to his likely death while the parachute caught fire 16 times, and each time he tried was more terrifying than the first. Right, Tom. Right. They're dropping this man a minimum of 7,500 feet in the air with a parachute on fire. They soaked the parachute in gas so his life net would catch fire when they ignited it in the air, while 62-year-old Tom Cruise is dangling on the other end, trying to deploy his backup chute. He can't be serious. This is wild. Sir. Tom, you have a problem. For performing this stunt 16 times, Tom was awarded the title for most burning parachute jumps by an individual. "Tom doesn't just play action heroes – he is an action hero!" Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, said. "A large part of his success can be chalked up to his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing the boundaries of what a leading man can do. It's an honour to be able to recognize his utter fearlessness with this new Guinness World Records title." It's not Tom's first world record. He actually holds the record for actor with "the most consecutive $100-million-grossing movies for his 11 films between Jack Reacher (2012) and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025). "Tom is no stranger to record breaking," Craig said. "Over his impressively long and consistent career, he's proved himself to be the most powerful actor in Hollywood and the most bankable star, and he's still the actor with the most consecutive $100 million movies on their resume and the most successful leading action hero at the worldwide box office." On the Dec. 8 episode of Kramer's iHeart podcast, Whine Down, she and Russell discussed a recent episode of Yellowstone, in which Wes Bentley and Dawn Olivieri's characters had a sex scene. Without hesitation, the former soccer player told his actress wife she could never take on a similar role. 'There's not part of me that will ever, ever, ever allow that, ever, for a man to be that close to you like that,' he said. 'Never.' 'What if Taylor Sheridan has me audition and I book a role where I have to have that scene?' Kramer responded, referring to Yellowstone's creator. 'Then I will go Tommy Lee on everyone,' Russell, 43, exclaimed. 'I will be phoning the producers and threatening the producers, 'You need to change that scene. Well, this for the good of your health, you need to change this scene.' ' 'No. I wouldn't let you do that scene. No,' he added. 'That's not good for a marriage, that type of role. It's not. Especially [as] a man who's not in the acting world, it's difficult, therefore that's my opinion based on, I'm not in that world. You can keep smiling and laughing if you want. But let's flip it. 'He's like, 'I'm your lucky charm.' I'm like, 'No, you are!' It's been great,' she added, noting that Russell makes her feel 'not only supported, but loved and like I can do my work.' Kramer also criticized fans for "[ripping] him apart" for his comments about acting in intimate scenes. 'That's what marriage is—it's a conversation. It's not like, 'No, you cannot do this.'
