Eskom has implemented stage-2 load shedding which will run from 16:00 on Tuesday, 13 May 2025, to 22:00 on Thursday, 15 May 2025.
The power utility stated that the implementation of load shedding is due to a limited generation capacity that was caused by a delay in return of generation units amounting to over 3 000MW.
Additionally, there was a loss of over 1 300MW due to unplanned breakdowns.
'The primary reason for this setback is the delay in returning several units from planned maintenance. These delays, coupled with an unplanned capacity loss that has now temporarily exceeded 13 000MW, align with the risk of scenarios shared in our Winter 2025 Outlook,' explained Eskom.
Despite current pressures, Eskom assures that the system is in a stronger position when compared to previous winters.

Gauteng temperatures set to surge from Wednesday
Residents of Gauteng will see a shift in weather patterns this week, as forecasters warn of rising temperatures from midweek. Pretoria may record highs of 29°C by Friday, making it one of the warmest post-winter spells yet. The week began with relatively mild and partly cloudy conditions across most of Gauteng. Pretoria and Centurion peaked at 22°C on Monday. 'Gauteng is going to be partly cloudy throughout your Monday, with highs of 22°C for Pretoria and surrounding areas,' explained Joel Guy, a weather forecaster. Breezy but dry conditions have dominated much of the province, setting the stage for the incoming warmth. Forecasters noted a slight chance of drizzle in Gauteng's northern and eastern parts. Despite this possibility, widespread rainfall is not expected. 'There is a chance of drizzly conditions this morning in the far north, but much of Gauteng will stay dry,' Guy confirmed. If the drizzle develops, it will not significantly affect the broader weather pattern. Most areas remain under stable skies, with limited cloud cover expected later in the week. The most notable development will be the sharp warming trend starting Wednesday, with clear skies driving temperatures higher each day. Pretoria could reach 29°C on Friday, while other areas across the province will also experience above-average warmth. Dry conditions will accompany the rise in temperatures, increasing the risk of discomfort for residents unprepared for the sudden heat. Cape Town weather forecast to throw another curveball at Springboks
The Springboks will have spent Saturday night and Sunday undergoing plenty of introspection after suffering a shock defeat to the Wallabies at Ellis Park. It would be no surprise if Rassie Erasmus has also delivered a bit of an 'uitkak' session, but there is no time for the Springboks to feel sorry for themselves after being well and truly humbled. Now it's all about the manner in which they respond in Cape Town this Saturday, and what can't be overlooked is the weather forecast for the Mother City. The last time the Springboks played in Cape Town, they were also met with a wet weather affair against the Barbarians at the end of June, which did add to a rather scrappy performance at times. It looks like it could be a similar affair this Saturday, with persistent rain predicted for most of the day. According to the ever reliable WindGuru forecaster, the heaviest rainfall should be around mid morning (0.6mm/1hr), and by kick off there at least shouldn't be much more than a light drizzle. However, it does mean that the Springboks – and Wallabies – will need to be prepared for a slippery ball and conditions that are less conducive to the high-scoring, high ball-in-play affair we saw at Ellis Park. Rassie Erasmus and attack coach Tony Brown are fully aware that the Springboks have to find a better balance with their ball-in-hand evolution. 'Tony was 100% in agreement that we didn't employ the kick-to-ruck strategy enough. Tony was saying the whole time, 'boys, we're overplaying, we're overplaying,' Erasmus commented. 'It's not Tony's fault that we overplayed. It was more a case of the guys seeing opportunities.. but Australia's defensive system is such that you constantly feel something's on (to attack).'
