Inside the Genius That Makes the Silverado EV Trail Boss Off-Road Ready

Miami Herald9 hours ago

Chevrolet recently introduced the 2026 Silverado EV's Trail Boss trim with added off-road capability that delivers a rugged, modern-looking design distinguished by several trim-exclusive features. Drivers now have three 2026 Silverado EVs to choose from, with the Trail Boss replacing the RST as the line's peak trim. After our initial introduction to the model earlier this month, it's time to take a closer look at what makes the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss unique from a design and equipment perspective.
The 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss's trim-exclusive terrain mode helps form its off-road prowess with its low-speed compatibility, dedicated control for maneuvering uneven terrain, and sharper 4-wheel steer for more precise torque and traction control during low-speed off-roading. Sidewinder mode complements terrain mode by allowing all wheels to turn in the same direction and move the truck diagonally at low speeds. Chevrolet integrates terrain and sidewinder modes into the Silverado EV Trail Boss's dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
Red-painted tow hooks, beadlock-like 18-inch wheels, and 35-inch all-terrain tires help form the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss's aggressive appearance while contributing to its capability. Chevrolet gives this pickup room for customization with auxiliary switches for features like off-road accessory lights, and the specially designed front bumper upgrades the model's obstacle-clearing ability with an impressive 31.6-degree approach angle.
The 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss's interior contains excellent dimensions for a full-size pickup. Its maximum front headroom of up to 43.9 inches is generous, and tall adults have plenty of legroom in both front and rear rows at 44.8 inches and 44.3 inches, respectively. Shoulder and hip rooms are also competitive for the segment, enhancing comfort during demanding off-roading. This trim's exclusive interior theme is Artemis black with red stitching, which is upscale and durable with its easy-to-clean material. One upside to spending more on a Trail Boss Silverado EV is receiving standard Super Cruise tech, which provides hands-free driving assistance on compatible highways and automatic lane switches. Super Cruise also features lane-centering capability, keeping you at a safe distance from the car you're following even while towing.
The 2026 Silverado EV was heading into its third year with little to no changes, but the Trail Boss's added presence reshapes the lineup with unique off-road capability. This Chevrolet pickup's three trims, from least to most expensive, include the Work Truck, LT, and Trail Boss.
Price-wise, a Silverado EV Work Truck starts at $54,895 (including delivery charge) with the standard 286-mile battery pack but goes up to $68,295 and $76,295 with the extended and max batteries offering 424 miles and 493 miles per charge, respectively. The LT starts at $62,995 for its 283-mile standard pack and increases to $71,195 and $91,295 with its 410-mile extended and 478-mile max packs. Chevy's Trail Boss features two battery packs, the 410-mile extended and 478-mile max, priced from $72,095 and $88,695, respectively.

Shane van Gisbergen wins NASCAR Mexico City Cup inaugural in a dominant display

Shane van Gisbergen remained a ringer in NASCAR Cup Series inaugural events with left and right turns, winning in the circuit's debut at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. The Trackhouse Racing driver qualified for the playoffs with his second career victory, leading the final 33 laps in his No. 88 Chevrolet and easily outdistancing Christopher Bell by more than 17 seconds. It was the first Cup win for van Gisbergen since the New Zealand native won in his series debut — the inaugural 2023 street race in Chicago. Chase Elliott finished third, followed by Alex Bowman and Michael McDowell. John Hunter Nemechek, Chase Briscoe, Cole Custer, William Byron and Chris Buescher rounded out the top 10. Ty Gibbs finished 11th despite leading three times for 27 laps as a midrace caution burned the No. 54 Toyota, which had elected to stay on track longer than van Gisbergen during a green-flag cycle. Gibbs was in 11th when the race restarted on Lap 69 of 100 but was unable to make progress and began slipping. The race was slowed by six caution flags but ran green for the final 33 laps as the skies cleared from a threatening forecast that affected the first half of the race. The inclement weather arrived just after the green flag, beginning a day filled with strategy gambles and predictions based on the radar. The caution flew on Lap 1 when the rain began, allowing for teams to make competitive pit stops for wet-weather tires. Chris Buescher and Austin Cindric elected to stay on track with slick tires, but they were both gobbled up quickly on the restart. Buescher fell from first to 16th within few laps, and Cindric dropped to 10th. Their freefall was stemmed by a yellow flag for Kyle Busch, who lost control on Turn 1 entry of the seventh lap. His crash collected seven other drivers, including Kyle Larson (who fell more than 30 laps down with damage). 'Just in the rain, and I went down into 11 and got on the brakes pretty hard,' Busch told Marty Snider on Pime. 'Everything was fine, everything was comfortable, stopped really good. And I'm like, 'OK, I can be a little more aggressive getting into 1,' and I figured it was going to be fine, and as soon as I went to the brakes, it was like being on ice, and I was just sliding. 'About a second and a half or so, I was trying to figure out which direction to go, and I was like, 'I've got to turn this thing around backward, because I'm going to nail some people.' Hate it for all those involved in my mishap. Hate it for RCR, ECR. The car in qualifying was really good, and I felt we were going to be really sporty in the dry. I hate that the rain came, and now it's nice and dry. Just have to go fight for more points in another week.' At the front, the battle began between van Gisbergen and Gibbs, who swapped the lead while choosing to pit just before the end of the first stage. They traded the lead twice again after the Stage 2 restart on Lap 25. Their strategies split at the end of the second stage, though, as Gibbs elected to pit for four tires with two laps remaining while van Gisbergen stayed on track to win the stage and gamble that a nearby shower might force everyone into the pits again while he was leading. The rain held off, though, and Gibbs was able to rally from 15th to fourth over the first 10 laps of the last stage while van Gisbergen battled for first with Bell before settling into a lead of nearly 5 seconds. Stage 1 winner: Ryan Preece Stage 2 winner: van Gisbergen Next up: Sunday, June 22, 2 p.m. ET at Pocono Raceway on Prime.

Will Power: 'I sent it' to snatch pole position for IndyCar WWTR oval night race

Will Power laid down a 49.9088s qualifying effort with a 180.329mph two-lap average to claim pole for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500. The result was Power's fifth pole on the 1.25-mile oval and his 71st overall, extending his record for indy car racing poles. It was the two-time IndyCar champion's first time topping the charts in qualifying since Aug. 2024 at Portland International Raceway. Power's strategy was simple. Advertisement 'I sent it a lot,' Power said of his run. 'I knew you would have to. You'd have to try to be flat in (turns) 3 and 4. Which I wasn't quite flat, but very, very close. 'Cool, man. Cool. It's been a while since I've had a pole, so I'm really excited for the Verizon 12 car. Chevy did a great job, good power. Hopefully we can execute in the race. It'd be awesome to get a win here.' It'll be an all-Team Penske front row, continuing a day of strength for the organization after Josef Newgarden led opening practice. Scott McLaughlin fell just .1515s shy of Power in an earlier run. Newgarden couldn't match his teammates in qualifying, but ended up a strong fifth at session's end. As qualifying unfolded The company is looking for its first win of 2025, hoping to break a season-long sweep for Honda drivers Alex Palou and Kyle Kirkwood. Chevrolet will have many frontrunners looking to break through at Gateway. The Bowtie brand claimed the top-five qualifiers on Saturday, with Pato O'Ward, David Malukas and Newgarden capping off the top-five. Advertisement Meyer Shank Racing's Marcus Armstrong was quickest among Honda drivers in sixth, followed by teammate Felix Herta, Alex Palou and Kirkwood wrapping up the top-10. Honda controls sixth through 11th, with Scott Dixon completing the group. Championship hopeful ChristianChristian Lundgaard will have ground to make up if he hopes to salvage the weekend. Lundgaard was a disappointing 14th at day's end, clear of teammate Nolan Siegel (20th) but well behind O'Ward and unable to capitalize on a pedestrian run for championship frontrunner Palou. Rookie Robert Shwartzman was unable to repeat the magic of his shock Indianapolis 500 pole run. The Prema Racing driver suffered a slight bobble during his run and wound up 24th at session's end. With only one race on the weekend, the field was set based on two-lap averages. Drivers qualified in reverse order of the series' current point standings. The session started later than initially planned, pushed back two hours by lingering storms that dropped light moisture through the morning and early afternoon. Early sunshine gave way to overcast skies as the session went on, dropping the track temp and aiding drivers that qualified later. Track preparation in focus Conor Daly, Juncos Hollinger Racing Conor Daly, Juncos Hollinger Racing Qualifying was preceded by practice for the USAC Silver Crown Series, where a blown motor may also have impacted time trials for some of the session's early qualifiers. Advertisement 'Cars blowing up just before we go and qualify is really a shame for us,' Conor Daly told Frontstretch after an early run. 'I like to turn in really late into (turns) 3 and 4. That's exactly where the oil dry is, and a bunch of sand. Our safety team does a great job doing that, but it's still slick.' It'll be a late evening for the IndyCar field. The 27 competitors will return to the racing surface for final practice at 8:15 p.m. ET. Sunday's race is slated to go live on FOX at 8:00 p.m. ET.
