Reports note that Warner plans to start doing A/B testing on photo thumbnails used on HBO Max, a development that one of its biggest rivals, Netflix (NFLX), has already been engaged in for most of the last decade. Essentially, the project will show users several different thumbnail images for a particular video, or set of videos. Then, the system will be able to track which thumbnail displayed ended up with the most user engagement.
The testing will be done with the most popular titles in Warner's stable at first, reports note, but then will expand outward from there. By the end of 2026's first half, almost all of the catalog should be using A/B testing on thumbnails. For now, humans will be handling thumbnail construction, but in the future, that job will be artificial intelligence's baby, reports note.

With Warner's Superman win still ringing in its collective ears, attention turned to two of the other major properties in its arsenal. Namely, the two other founding members of the Justice League: Batman, with the upcoming The Brave and the Bold, and an as-yet-untitled Wonder Woman movie.
The bad news, for those eager to catch the latest comic book outings, is that these two will be a while in coming. The scripts are still being written, and shooting cannot begin until the scripts are actually ready to go, as DC Studios CEO James Gunn noted. While the news of further waiting is not pleasant, it is comforting to note that Warner seems focused on giving the creative team the time it needs to properly incubate titles and bring out quality product.

These events normally make big changes to the Fortnite map, which is why it's interesting that this season still has one week left following the event, as the season is scheduled to end on August 7. Whether this turns out to just be part one of a two-part event or something special will occur remains to be seen, but if you want to find out, you'll have to be there.

James Gunn has shared high-res images of the Hall of Justice mural from Superman , and it's packed with history. The stunning piece of art charts the entire legacy of metahumans in the DCU. Featuring 26 characters, the mural highlights figures with deep ties to modern-day heroes like Wonder Woman, Zatanna, and The Flash, offering fans a glimpse at how expansive this new cinematic universe could become. The hi-res shots of the mural come complete with a breakdown of every single character on it. Whether these names remain as Easter eggs or lay the foundation for future stories in Gunn's DCU remains a mystery for now. But if these characters represent the past of this shared world, there's a good chance some of them will eventually step into the spotlight. Sister Symmetry - a powerful sorceress who wields the Cloak of Cyra and is imbued with powers by the Lord of Order. Silent Knight - hailing from the 6th Century, the British hero is a master swordsman and thought to be a previous incarnation of Carter Hall/Hawkman and possibly even Clark Kent's distant ancestor. Exoristos - an exiled Amazon from Themyscira, she once wielded the sword eventually used by Wonder Woman. Black Pirate - a 16th-century do-gooder who previously appeared in The CW's Legends of Tomorrow , he fought the good fight on the high seas and was a member of the Five Warriors from Forever. Miss Liberty - a hero during the American Revolutionary War, she also served on the time-displaced Five Warriors from Forever team. Whip Whirlwind - better known as Max Mercury, the speedster was a hero during the Wild West, where he used his Flash-like abilities to protect Native Americans. Super Chief - an Iroquois warrior from the 15th century, his powers were granted by the Manitou Stone but only last for an hour at a time. Lazarus Lane - this Wild West-era hero was made the Spirit of Vengeance by the Wise Owl, and took on the moniker, El Diablo. However, the demon only takes over his body when he's asleep or unconscious. Chop-Chop - Wu Cheng is a young Chinese pilot who served in the Blackhawk Squadron during World War II. Ghost of Flanders - Rip Graves faked his death to become a superhero, becoming a masked crimefighter during World War II. Like G.I. Robot, he kills Nazis. Sandman - Not to be confused with the Neil Gaiman character, Wesley Dodds carries a Gas Gun into action and uses his prophetic dreams to help him figure out the crime scenes he encounters. Amazing Man - Will Everett served as this Golden Age vigilante during World War II, and gained powers after being kidnapped and experimented on by the Ultra-Humanite. He can now mimic and absorb any material. Zatara - Giovanni "John" Zatara is the father of Zatanna. Like his daughter, he casts spells by speaking backwards and was a key member of the Justice Society of America. Liberty Bell - another DC character who has had multiple characters hold the matter, she activated her powers by ringing the Liberty Bell. The Libby Lawrence version is the wife of Johnny Quick and Jesse Quick's mother. Bulletman - this World War II superhero used his Crime Cure serum to battle Nazis, and donned the Gravity Regulator Helmet to deflect bullets. Bulletgirl - Bulletman's wife had the same powers and gadgets as her husband. Max Mercury - This time-displaced speedster will be known best to many of you as the mentor of The Flash (Wally West) and Kid Flash (Bart Allen). TNT - Thomas N. "Tex" Thomas has radioactive powers that generate heat energy, which he used against the Nazis. He later joined the All-Star Squadron and Seven Soldiers of Victory. Dan the Dyna-mite - Tex's student got involved with his teacher's crime-fighting when he was exposed to the same experiment that granted TNT his abilities. Phantom Lady - this Golden Age Squadron member used her Black Light Ray to project black light, allowing her to create darkness and turn invisible. Atomic Knight - tasked with restoring peace and order, Gardner Grayle wore an experimental radiation-resistant armour in the post-apocalyptic world created by World War III. Freedom Beast - this South African superhero succeeded B'Wana Beast as the primary protector of African wildlife. He accesses The Red, a mystical force tied to Swamp Thing and Animal Man. Wildcat - Ted Grant was part of the Justice Society of America, and a former heavyweight boxing champion who moonlights as a superhero (his mystical "Nine Lives" makes him particularly durable). Vibe - this fan favourite Arrrowverse character was one of the first Latino superheroes, and uses vibrational manipulation to defeat his foes. Gunfire - able to turn anything into a gun, a Bloodlines Parasite granted Andrew Van Horn his impressive powers. Maxwell Lord - the founder of the DCU's Justice Gang doesn't have powers in the comics, but does this mural suggest he's a metahuman as well? The most exciting Comic-Con announcements and wildest moments from SDCC 2025
Marvel stayed at home, but that doesn't mean this year's Comic-Con was lacking in big announcements. Add to that the small matter of George Lucas in the hosue. Comic-Con remains a highlight of the geek calendar. SDCC encourages the big names from the worlds of movies, TV, and comic books to peddle their wares in front of an adoring crowd. Last year, for example, Marvel used the famous Hall H stage to announce that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU — as the villainous Doctor Doom rather than Tony Stark. There were fewer fireworks in California this year with a more muted event. Marvel sat out entirely, while competitor DC mostly let its recently released Superman movie do the talking. But that's not to say that there weren't any big moments and notable announcements for fans to enjoy. Here's a round-up of the most important things that happened at Comic-Con over the weekend, from new trailers to appearances from pop culture legends. James Gunn finally unveiled Peacemaker season 2 There might have been a shortage of big superhero movie news out of Comic-Con this year, but that's not to say DC was completely quiet. James Gunn might have been busy kicking off a whole new superhero universe, but he still had time for John Cena's bizarre vigilante Peacemaker. The trailer for season two teases lots of silliness, as well as the tantalising idea of portals between dimensions — perhaps a nod to the very confusing DCU chronology since Gunn's takeover. "The reason I'm so happy to be here with you guys, is because this is the real fans here," he said on stage. Avengers: Doomsday might not have a finished script Marvel didn't have an actual presence in San Diego this year, but that didn't stop the upcoming team-up movie Avengers: Doomsday from grabbing some headlines. Rebecca Romijn — aka the original Mystique in the X-Men movies — was at Comic-Con promoting Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but she gave an intriguing answer when asked whether she had finished shooting her scenes for Doomsday. "[I'm] not quite sure. The script hasn't — they haven't finished writing it. It's been very, very fun, and we don't know yet. They keep everything very close to the vest themselves in an effort to keep everything under wraps," she said according to The Hollywood Reporter. Just over a year away from the release of Marvel's first Avengers movie since Endgame, the script apparently isn't complete. That could be a warning sign or just yet another symptom of Marvel's bizarre secrecy. The fact Romijn doesn't know of a finished script doesn't mean that there isn't one. George Lucas was in the house Until this year, George Lucas had never taken to the stage at Comic-Con. The Star Wars creator, however, broke his duck this year by sitting down with Guillermo del Toro for a panel discussing the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The museum will house lots of Star Wars pieces, as well as other art including early Flash Gordon drawings and paintings by Frida Kahlo. "I don't think it's anything that anybody else can tell you. If you have emotional connection, it's art. If you don't, just move onto the next painting." Star Wars fans also got a glimpse of Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger in the currently filming second season of Ahsoka. As for any concrete updates on that show, they were in short supply. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is going much bigger Five Nights at Freddy's managed to parlay its video game success to the big screen in 2023, with the movie adaptation of the creepy game earning a massive $291m (£217m) worldwide. Returning director Emma Tammi unveiled a trailer and also promised that the new movie would feature 'more than three times as many animatronics' as its predecessor, praising the Jim Henson Company for realising the critters as practically as possible. Among those new animatronics will be Mangle and The Marionette, who will be very recognisable to fans of the games. Based on how many of those fans turned up to buy a ticket first time around, catering squarely to their tastes seems like a very smart move. Coyote vs. Acme saga gets a happy ending Two years ago, Warner Bros announced that it was chucking a completed movie in the bin. Coyote vs. Acme, which is a live-action and animation hybrid featuring Looney Tunes characters, was scrapped in favour of a tax write-off. After a fervent campaign online, though, the studio reversed course and allowed Ketchup Entertainment to nab the rights to the movie earlier this year. That's more than enough to whet the appetite of fans who have been following this long-running rollercoaster of a story. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds goes Jim Henson The Jim Henson Company got a major shout-out during the Five Nights at Freddy's panel, but that wasn't the only time the world of the Muppets graced Hall H this year. In a short preview clip for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4, fans saw Anson Mount's character Captain Pike in the form of one of the Henson Company's puppets. That's set to be a memorable episode indeed. Predator franchise unveils Arnold Schwarzenegger cameo It's a big year for the Predator franchise, with animated movie Predator: Killer of Killers already streaming and live-action adventure Predator: Badlands on the way very soon. Dan Trachtenberg, who directed both projects, appeared at Comic-Con armed with the first 15 minutes of Badlands and a very interesting additional detail for Killer of Killers. 'Unfortunately, some bits of Killer of Killers were left on the cutting room floor, but recently we were able to sneak it back in," said Trachtenberg. He then played a changed version of the animated movie's epilogue, revealing Danny Glover's Lt. Mike Harrigan and Arnold Schwarzenegger's Dutch from the original 1987 Predator movie as warriors captured by the creatures this time around. Here's what to know about the sequel (Business Insider, 3 min read) Trachtenberg said of meeting Schwarzenegger to discuss the cameo: "We talked a lot about the things we could make together and he was very kind to approve his cameo in this. Spinal Tap II: The End Continues The comedic rockers of Spinal Tap are back, with Rob Reiner returning to direct a sequel to the classic 1980s mockumentary. Reiner appeared at Comic-Con to debut a packed trailer for the movie, which features A-list music biz cameos from Paul McCartney and Elton John. It's almost certainly the only trailer this year to feature a Beatle and a Taskmaster star, in Kerry Godliman. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer all return to their famous roles in the sequel and Reiner, for his part, praised the celebs who popped up. 'I was surprised at how good Paul McCartney was at improv,' said the filmmaker.
