Govt fully equipped for record rabi paddy procurement: Uttam

Nizamabad / Hyderabad: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday asserted that the Telangana government was fully equipped for the paddy procurement of Rabi season.
Addressing the 'Telangana Rythu Mahotsavam' in Nizamabad, he said that every procurement centre is equipped to handle large volumes. Paddy procurement is being conducted in a transparent and accountable manner. He informed that 8,329 procurement centres had been proposed, and some districts like Nizamabad, Kamareddy, and Suryapet had achieved 100 per cent operational status. Storage capacity across Telangana stood at 64.65 LMTs, with 25 LMTs currently vacant. Additional storage was also available with rice mills and could be supplemented through Agricultural Market Committees, the State Warehousing Corporation, and private godowns, he emphasised.
The Minister said that Agriculture Extension Officers (AEOs) and other manpower had been trained to identify grain quality as per notified standards. Separate classification mechanisms and a three-tier appeal process were in place to resolve any disputes between farmers and officials. He also highlighted the government's innovative use of weather forecast alerts and mobile dryers to protect paddy from unseasonal rains, and advised farmers to pre-dry and clean their produce before bringing it to the centres.

This technological push, however, is inextricably linked to the quality and relevance of education, the experts said while addressing policymakers, industry leaders and economists.'GIS and AI are coming together in powerful ways to support India's vision of becoming a $7-8 trillion economy. Whether it's bringing rural land into productive use through initiatives like SVAMITVA, enabling smarter infrastructure monitoring, or driving efficiency in agriculture and crop planning, these technologies are already creating real impact,' said Agendra Kumar, Managing Director, Esri GIS landscape in India has been undergoing significant transformation, with new-age technologies opening up tremendous possibilities across various sectors. Globally, the rapidly expanding GIS market is projected to reach a massive USD 24.61 billion by 2034, demonstrating a compounded annual growth rate of 8.71 per cent over the next decade, according to a report by Precedence Research. The speakers at the event underscored the urgent necessity for a strategic overhaul of India's existing economic frameworks and the rural development and industrial expansion was also considered as a vital means to acheive $7-8 trillion economy by 2030. Speaking on India's potential, Claude Smadja, Chairman of Smadja & Smadja Strategic Advisory and former MD of the World Economic Forum, said, 'India has the potential to become a 7-8 trillion-dollar economy, but this will require clear focus and timely execution. No country has achieved sustained growth without a strong industrial base, and India must increase its industry share while also investing more in R&D, particularly from the private sector.' Industrial expansion, particularly in sectors such as clean energy, defence technology, and advanced manufacturing, was also identified as pivotal for fostering economic resilience and scaling job creation. However, the recurring theme was that the skilled workforce required for these sectors will largely emanate from a responsive and forward-looking educational the speakers at the event underscored the urgent need for a strategic overhaul of India's existing economic frameworks, and the rural development and industrial expansion were also considered a vital means to achieve a USD 7-8 trillion economy by 2030. 1 2 Ranchi: A two-member team from the National Meat Research Institute (NMRI), Hyderabad, inspected the long-defunct govt-owned bacon factory at Kanke in Ranchi on Friday and expressed optimism about restarting it. Ranchi's bacon factory, once hailed as Asia's leading facility for producing pork items under the 'Ranbac' brand, has remained shut for the past 28 years. Established in 1966, the factory ceased operations in the mid 1990s. Despite several attempts to revive it over the years, the lack of suitable partners with the required technical expertise stalled progress. NMRI experts M. Muthu Kumar and Dr Yogesh P. Godkar found the slaughter section to be 70 – 80% operational, raising hopes for an early restart. The team indicated that with minor repairs and upgrades, the facility could resume operations soon and even function as a training and processing hub. The state minister for agriculture, animal husbandry, and cooperatives, Shilpi Neha Tirkey, said, "This factory has the potential to support rural livelihoods and provide hands-on training in meat processing. Reviving it is not just about reopening a facility but about building a self-reliant model for our farmers and youth. We are committed to transforming this space into a productive and sustainable unit. With NMRI's technical expertise and our local workforce, this can become a landmark project in Jharkhand's animal husbandry sector. " An MoU is expected to be signed soon between the state govt and the NMRI, under which the institute would provide technical assistance and conduct training for local farmers and workers. Plans also include setting up skill development modules that could train nearly 100 individuals in hygienic meat processing practices. The NMRI team would submit a detailed report on the revival within a week.

Nano urea revolutionised agriculture sector slashing chemical fertiliser use: Mansukh Mandaviya

New Delhi: Nano urea, based on nanotechnology, has revolutionised the agriculture sector, and has slashed the use of chemical fertilisers that are harmful to soil and health, Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya said. In a video shared by Modi Story, a handle on social media platform X, Union Minister Mandaviya narrated how a simple suggestion to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by a young scientist paved the way for the development of nano urea in the country. Mandaviya said that this led to the development of the world's first nano urea plant in India, in partnership with the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). IFFCO launched the world's first 'Nano Liquid Urea' fertiliser in June 2021 and came up with Nano-DAP (di-ammonium phosphate) fertilisers in April 2023. Besides local farmers, the technologies are also being recognised internationally. 'I still remember how PM Narendra Modi Ji turned a simple suggestion into the revolutionary breakthrough of nano urea. Modi Ji doesn't just listen; he transforms ideas into impactful solutions. That's true leadership!' Mandaviya said, in response to the post on X. He stated that nano urea, developed using nanotechnology and which contains plant nutrients in very small particle sizes provides a safer alternative to the chemical fertilisers that can contaminate soil. 'Today, a 100 ml Nano Urea bottle replaces a full sack of urea, slashing transport costs, protecting soil, and helping farmers,' said Mandaviya, who was earlier the Fertiliser Minister. Today, the country has the potential to develop 2-3 lakh bottles of nano urea, he added. IFFCO's Nano Urea is widely recognised as a game-changer in fertilisation. It improves nutrient use efficiency, enhances nitrogen absorption, and significantly reduces nitrate leaching. Additionally, it promotes soil health, requires less water, and has a lower carbon footprint than conventional urea.
