While the British media wants to make the deal termination all about Meghan and Harry, the truth is more about the finances of Hollywood in 2025. Netflix is no longer entering into massive, big-budget production deals with stars. As People pointed out, Barack and Michelle Obama found their massive contract morph into a standard first-look agreement.
The Sun insider also noted the duo's current relationship with the streamer, 'There's no animosity from either side. Things have just run their course.' Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos has been a big cheerleader for the Sussexes, and it is likely that their relationship will continue on a smaller basis. Still, the second season of With Love, Meghan will likely need to show some ratings improvements in order to nab a third season pickup.
Sarandos explained what Netflix is looking for from all of their series at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York City in September 2024 — he's a big fan of transparency. 'Put the number out there so that talent can see it, so that agents can see it, so that the press can see it, and know what's a hit and what's a miss,' he said, per Deadline.
So, don't be misled by Prince Harry and Meghan headlines; their deal is the result of the economic downsizing of Hollywood. It makes more sense for Netflix to do a one-off deal with them instead of an oversized Hollywood contract.

The ‘Wednesday Season 2 Part 2' Trailer Welcomes Back a Familiar Face
Now that we're just over a week out from the first half of the season 2 release of Netflix's The Addams Family remake, Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer has finally released a new trailer for its second half. The trailer starts nightmarishly, at least for Wednesday, with her waking up in a hospital bed. Although she's not greeted by Momma Monster herself, Lady Gaga, who has yet to make an appearance on the show despite all the hype surrounding her mysterious involvement, Wednesday is met with a familiar face, fan-favorite character Principal Weems, played by Gwendoline Weems' return comes as a surprise, seeing as how last season saw the loathsome head of Nevermore Academy meet her end. Thinking Wednesday also bought the farm after her encounter with Tyler (Hunter Doohan) at the end of season 2's first half, Weems took immense pleasure in revealing that she'll be nagging at Wednesday inside her thoughts as a kind of gothic Jiminy Cricket tag-along as Wednesday gets back to her premonition quest to save her best friend, Enid (Emma Myers), from certain doom. Sprinkled throughout the rest of the trailer is narration by Wednesday, reminding both herself and the viewers that she still has other matters to attend to. Mainly, her family's seemingly endless well of dark secrets bubbling to the surface, and Tyler being on the loose with plans to put Wednesday and Enid in an early grave. While the news of the day is that viewers won't have to wait all that long to get the final half of the split in twain season, fans can take solace in knowing that there's more Wednesday mayhem in store for them in the future beyond the second slice. Namely, a third season is in the works as well as a spin-off. While details on both fronts have been kept under wraps, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have expressed interest in keeping the show going for at least seven seasons. Our money is on the plans for a spin-off likely taking the focus off of Ortega, should Hollywood come a-knocking for her to do some acting outside of Netflix's backyard.
