Singer Jessie J says she was diagnosed with early breast cancer and will have surgery
Singer Jessie J revealed she has been diagnosed with early breast cancer.
The 37-year-old British singer shared an Instagram video on Tuesday, saying: 'I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I'm highlighting the word 'early.' Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word 'early.''
The star said she's been in and out of tests and debated whether to share her diagnosis publicly, but reasoned, 'I've always shared everything that I go through in my life.'
'I just wanted to be open and share it, one, because selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard," she said.
"I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories from an open book,' she explained, adding, 'It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse, that's the bit that kills me.'
She explained her latest hits 'No Secrets' and 'Living My Best Life' were preplanned before she found out about her diagnosis.
She joked in her Instagram caption: "No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called 'Living my breast life'?"
The star said in the video she will 'disappear for a bit' after the summer to have surgery. 'And I will come back with massive tits and more music,' she quipped.
She wrote in the caption that dealing with her new music and her diagnosis over the past two months has "given me the most incredible perspective. BUT ... Your girl needs a hug."
Her post was met with supportive messages from fellow artists.
Singer Rita Ora wrote: 'Your literally my favourite person and I'm praying for you you've got this. my mother had it and I know the surgery and any treatment on this matter is mentally tough so I'm here for you. X'
Katy Perry commented: 'Love you! We all are sending healing energy to youuu… excited for the massive tits and more music,' and Leona Lewis added: 'Sending all the love j 🤍'
Born and raised in London, Jessie J is known for her hits like 'Bang Bang' with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, 'Price Tag' and 'Domino.'
