SIPITANG: The Angkatan Pertahanan Awam (APM) Sipitang team emerged as champions in the Five-Corner 9-a-side Friendly Football League held at the Mesapol field on Sunday. The Masjid Jamek Pekan Mesapol team secured second place, followed by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Sipitang in third. Sipitang Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and the Petronas Auxiliary Police (PB Samur) took fourth and fifth places respectively. The league-format tournament was organised by the Petronas Auxiliary Police (PB Samur) and featured teams from APM Sipitang, PDRM Sipitang, Bomba Sipitang, PB Samur, and Masjid Jamek Pekan Mesapol. The event aimed to strengthen camaraderie and promote recreational activity through sports. The Malaysian world No 4 dug deep into their reserves before overcoming the 27th ranked Danish pair 17-21, 21-16, 21-14 in a 50-minute battle – their first encounter in international tournaments. Advertisement Tang Jie-Ee Wei, reunited after a brief separation by the Badminton Association of Malaysia, showed glimpses of their old form, indicating that they are contenders for the Indonesia Open Super 1000 series title. In the semi-finals, Tang Jie-Ee Wei will meet world No 6 Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran, who defeated Malaysia's world No 5 shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in straight sets. The married couple lost 16-21, 12-21 to Dechapol-Supissara in a match that lasted only 33 minutes. The pairs have met eight times this year with Dechapol-Supissara winning five of the encounters. Tang Jie-Ee Wei have won three titles in the World Tour series: the French Orleans Masters and Taipei Open in 2023, and the Korea Open last year. Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Games (Saga) Papar women's football team has made history by clinching the West-South Coast Zone qualifying round title after a thrilling three-day tournament at Padang Sukma A, Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex, from June 2. Competing against teams from Ranau and Penampang, the Papar squad secured their victory with a 1-1 draw against Ranau and a decisive 3-1 win over Penampang.
