Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Ivan Taylor

USA Today24-06-2025
For the first time since 2019, someone other than Malachi Moore will be wearing the No. 13 jersey for the Alabama Crimson Tide defense.
The player taking over that jersey number for the Crimson Tide will be Ivan Taylor, a fellow defensive back who is a highly-touted prospect in his own right.
Coming to Alabama out of the state of Florida, Taylor is the son of former NFL cornerback Ike Taylor, and is a name that could easily make an impact in the Crimson Tide's defensive backfield in year one.
Here is everything you need to know about Alabama true freshman defensive back Ivan Taylor entering the 2025 season.
Ivan Taylor player information
Ivan Taylor career stats
As mentioned previously, Taylor is a new face to Alabama this season, as well as college football overall. This will be the first season for Taylor collegiately.
Ivan Taylor 2024 stats
Taylor is new to Alabama this season, but is however coming off a strong high school senior season at West Orange High School in Florida. Playing both ways, Taylor amassed 75 tackles, nine TFL, and five interceptions across nine games defensively.
Ivan Taylor recruiting ranking
Taylor was among the headline defensive names in Alabama's 2025 recruiting class, coming to Tuscaloosa as the nation's No. 62 overall player according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. A four-star prospect who flipped to Alabama from Michigan in November of 2024, Taylor was also considered as the nation's No. 6 safety, as well as the No. 10 player in the state of Florida out of West Orange High School.
Ivan Taylor 2025 season outlook
When looking at Alabama's secondary, there are only two significant names who have moved on in Malachi Moore and DeVonta Smith.
Because of this, the Crimson Tide could have some playing time up for grabs at the safety and husky positions, but those spots however also return some experienced names such as Keon Sabb, Bray Hubbard, and DaShawn Jones as projected starters, meaning that Taylor projects as a backup to start the season. However, that does not mean that the talented freshman will not see playing time either, as Taylor should be one of Alabama's top backups who could potentially see time at both spots.
Expect the freshman to see time on special teams as well, and for Taylor to enjoy a solid first season at Alabama.

Former Oregon Ducks WR Ryan Pellum commits to play for DeSean Jackson at Delaware State

Former Oregon Ducks wide receiver Ryan Pellum has reportedly found a new home after entering the transfer portal last year and leaving Eugene. According to On3's Pete Nakos, Pellum is transferring to Delaware State, where he will play for DeSean Jackson and the Hornets. Pellum announced his transfer back in January of this year. He was one of four wide receivers in his class to enroll at Oregon, and he was rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 145 player and No. 26 WR in the 2024 class. As a freshman, Pellum played just 11 snaps, eight of which were on special teams. Not long after announcing his transfer from Oregon, Pellum was arrested on charges of aggravated assault using a semi-automatic firearm and discharging a gun on Christmas night in East Long Beach that sent a man to the hospital. He pleaded not guilty to these charges. Pellum will now be a name to know at Delaware State, where Jackson will coach his first year in 2025. In 2024, Jackson completed his first year as a football coach, working with the staff at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif. Now he is taking over an FCS school and looking to lead Delaware State to success in the MEAC. Should he be able to do that, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Jackson move up the coaching ranks and become a hot name in the FBS world. Steelers' Aaron Rodgers gets into heated exchange with rookie Kaleb Johnson

Tensions were fiery on the final day of Steelers training camp — and the outspoken 20-year veteran QB Aaron Rodgers finally showed off some of the tough love he's been known to possess throughout his career. On Tuesday, sideline reporters spotted Rodgers having some choice words for rookie RB Kaleb Johnson — who ran the wrong route in practice, leaving the Steelers quarterback upset. "It wasn't some hushed sideline chat," one practice attendee remarked, via "You could see Rodgers' body language from across the field." Rodgers is no stranger to voicing his frustrations and holding his teammates accountable — such as the "red line incident" with WR Mike Williams on the Jets, perhaps his most infamous example. Previously, former NFL defensive end Chris Long hinted that these outbursts and frustrations from Rodgers, directed at his teammates, could result in drama between the four-time MVP and his star wide receiver DK Metcalf. While alarming at first glance, Rodgers' veteran leadership will do far more good than harm for these young players — which is especially true for Johnson, who's come under criticism recently.
