
Man held for raping 5-year-old girl
According to the police, the father of the victim filed a FIR on Monday, alleging that the accused lured the minor with chocolates to an isolated area in their village.
The accused then allegedly raped the child and threatened her with death if she disclosed the incident.
Following the FIR, the police swiftly arrested the accused, who is a neighbour of the victim. He has been charged under BNS and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012. The accused reportedly confessed to his crimes during police interrogation. A medical examination of the victim confirmed the occurrence of rape, stated Sarat Patra, the investigation officer of the case.
The man was presented in court on Monday, where his bail application was denied, and he was remanded into judicial custody. The police are continuing their investigation into the case, added Patra.

New Delhi: A 32-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her 55-year-old father by hitting him with a pan during an altercation at their residence in Delhi's Shahdara on Wednesday, an official said. The incident came to light after the police received information from GTB Hospital at around 3:56 pm on Wednesday regarding the admission of a man named Tek Chand Goyal, a resident of Ramnagar, in an injured and unconscious condition. He was brought to the hospital by his son, Shivam, but was declared dead, the official noted. Shivam told investigators that at the time of the incident, his sister, Anu (32), their mother, Bala Devi, and his wife Priya (29) were present at home. He further claimed that his wife informed him that Anu had allegedly assaulted their father, leading to his death, a senior police officer said. Anu is unmarried and lives with her parents, Shivam said, alleging that she is intellectually disabled and is undergoing treatment for her condition. He further revealed that there were frequent fights within the household. Based on the allegations and initial findings, the police have taken Anu into custody. A case has been registered under Section 103 (punishment for murder) of the BNS, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events and the motive behind the assault, the officer said. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and statements from other family members are being recorded as part of the probe.

Case booked against unruly students for flaunting swords at birthday bash
Hyderabad: The Asifnagar police booked a case against a group of students for dancing with swords during birthday celebrations organized at Syedaliguda in Asifnagar on Monday night. The celebrations turned chaotic as attendees brandished weapons and disrupted the neighbourhood with loud DJ music. The video of the students cutting cakes with swords and dancing with them in the colony went viral on various social media platforms. This prompted the police to take suo motu cognizance of the incident and register a case under relevant provisions of BNS. Though the incident occurred on Monday night, it came to light on Wednesday as the video of the students dancing with swords went viral on social media. In all, over 10 youngsters, mostly students, participated in the birthday celebrations of a student. Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the organiser of the birthday party, Mohammed Fazal, under multiple charges. Asifnagar Inspector N Anand said a FIR has been issued and further investigation was on. 'As most students were minors, the police are seeking legal opinion before initiating necessary action against them as per rules.'

Woman working as domestic help held with Rs 14 lakh MD drug in Thane
Thane, Aug 7 (PTI) Police have arrested a 25-year-old woman who worked as a domestic help after seizing MD drug (mephedrone) valued at Rs 14 lakh from her in Maharashtra's Thane district, officials said on Thursday. Naushin Mainuddin Sheikh, resident of Mumbra, was apprehended on Tuesday evening while she was found moving in a suspicious manner on a road near a defunct hotel in Ulhasnagar, an official from Hill Line police station said. She was stopped and during checking, the police found her in possession of 71.03 grams of MD (mephedrone), a synthetic drug banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is Rs 14,31,120, the official said. During her interrogation, the accused claimed she had procured the drug for sale from a resident of Nalla Sopara in neighbouring Palghar district and efforts were on to nab him, he said. A case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. 'We are currently investigating the source of the contraband and its intended recipients," the official added.
