KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Pakatan Harapan wants Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to remain menteri besar until the end of the current term.
This comes amidst speculation that Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz might join PKR and replace Amirudin.
In a joint statement, leaders from the coalition's component parties said they fully support Amirudin to stay on in the position.
They said the support was in line with the need to ensure a stable and strong administration of the Selangor government in order to implement various planned policies and initiatives.
These, they said, included the Second Selangor Plan, the development of a third port in Pulau Carey, the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang agenda and Kompleks Sukan Shah Alam (KSSA).
"The continuity of the state's top leadership will send a positive message to investors and the business community in Selangor."
Describing Amirudin as an experienced administrator, the leaders expressed their belief that Amirudin's services were needed in Selangor.
This, they said, was to ensure the state continues to be the nation's economic powerhouse, while advancing the Malaysia Madani agenda championed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
They added that Amirudin's leadership as the Selangor PH chairman was essential to strengthen collaboration with Barisan Nasional ahead of the upcoming general election.
"His experience and leadership have been key to the unity that led to victory and the formation of the unity government in Selangor during the last state election," they said.
The statement was jointly issued by Ng Sze Han, who is Selangor DAP chairman; Datuk Izham Hashim, who is Selangor Amanah chairman, and Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, who is Selangor PKR deputy chairman.
All three are members of the Selangor executive council.
Earlier today, Amirudin once again dismissed speculation that he and Tengku Zafrul will switch roles following the latter's decision to leave Umno and join PKR.
The PKR vice-president also said he did not foresee a by-election being called to make way for Tengku Zafrul in the Selangor assembly, nor does he expect to vacate his seat to move to the federal level.
Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul had announced his resignation from all posts in Umno, along with his membership in the party.
In a posting on his Facebook account, Tengku Zafrul also announced his intention to join PKR .

GRS to Bung: Don't play victim, we don't need you
Joniston KOTA KINABALU (June 3): Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai has fired back at Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, calling his latest remarks arrogant and disconnected from Sabah's political reality. 'Bung is the last person who should talk about loyalty or sincerity. He tried to bring down the very government he was part of, just to serve his own ambition. That speaks volumes,' he said. Joniston dismissed Bung's claim that GRS had betrayed Barisan Nasional (BN), describing it as a clear attempt to twist the narrative and deflect from his own actions. 'It's Bung who conspired with Warisan and PKDM in January 2023 to topple the government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. 'He wasn't betrayed, he was the one doing the betraying. Even while sitting in the State Cabinet, he had no respect for his colleagues in the State government led by Hajiji as Chief Minister.' Joniston stressed that GRS has never been reliant on Umno and is fully prepared to face the upcoming state election independently. As such Bung should stop with his arrogance by insinuating as if GRS is so hard up to work with Umno-BN. He also pointed out that during the political crisis, several Umno assemblymen refused to support Bung's move and instead threw their backing behind Hajiji, alongside PH. 'If anyone needs to reflect, it's Bung. Why did even your own colleagues abandon your 'Langkah Kinabalu'? Why did PH support Hajiji, not you? The answer is obvious because the trust wasn't with you,' he said. Joniston, who is also PBS information chief, reiterated that his party would never forget the insult hurled by Bung when he once labelled PBS as 'melukut di tepi gantang'. 'You showed no respect for PBS or your allies, and now you expect cooperation? Don't be surprised if Sabahans continue to reject Umno just like they did in other states across the Peninsula. 'Sabah isn't your political lifeline. Don't treat this state like your fallback plan,' he said, stressing that GRS is now focused on what matters – unity, stability and delivering for the people.

Amirudin denies vacating Sungai Tua state seat, amid claim of by-election for Tengku Zafrul to become Selangor MB
SHAH ALAM, June 3 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today denied that the Sungai Tua state seat he won in the 2023 state election would be vacated. Describing the claim as imaginary and baseless, the Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said that vacating a seat to make way for an individual is not as easy as one might think. 'It's not that simple, it requires some research,' he said when met at the E-Bike Handover Ceremony to Selangor police at Selangor police contingent headquarters, here today. Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, said this in response to the claim that the Sungai Tua state seat would be vacated to allow for a by-election to be held, as well as to make way for Trade, Investment and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz to contest. Last Friday, Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation from UMNO and his intention to join PKR. — Bernama * Editor's note: An earlier version erroneously spelt Sungai Tua as Sungai Tea in the headline and has since been corrected.

PM immunity: High Court to rule on legal questions referral tomorrow
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has set Wednesday (June 4) for its decision on an application by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to refer eight legal questions to the Federal Court, including whether a Prime Minister enjoys immunity from lawsuits. The legal questions relate to a lawsuit filed by Anwar's former research assistant, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, concerning an alleged sexual assault seven years ago. Judge Roz Mawar Rozain fixed the date on Tuesday (June 3) after hearing submissions from lawyer Alan Wong Teck Wei, representing Anwar, and lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, acting for Yusoff, during in-chamber proceedings. Anwar filed the application on May 23, seeking to have the High Court, which is hearing the suit, refer the eight legal questions to the Federal Court. The eight legal questions include whether, under Articles 39, 40 and 43 of the Federal Constitution, a sitting Prime Minister enjoys limited immunity from lawsuits concerning allegations of personal conduct that occurred before his appointment. According to a supporting affidavit for the application, lawyer Datuk Megat Abdul Munir Megat Abdullah Rafaie, who is authorised to represent the defendant (Anwar), said that if the suit were to proceed, it would affect Anwar's ability to effectively perform his executive functions and undermine the doctrine of separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution. "The plaintiff's (Yusoff's) claim is politically motivated and, if not examined constitutionally at an early stage, could erode public confidence, diminish the dignity of the constitutional office, and disrupt the executive's ability to perform its constitutional duties," Megat Abdul Munir said in the affidavit. Megat Abdul Munir further stated that if the court intends to refer these constitutional questions to the Federal Court as a special case, it would be appropriate for the suit's proceedings to be stayed pending the Federal Court's determination of these questions. Yusoff filed the suit on July 14, 2021, and Anwar, in his statement of defence, contended that Yusoff had lied under oath to the authorities regarding the alleged sexual assault incident. The PKR president, who filed a counterclaim on Sept 28, 2021, alleged that Yusoff had fabricated the story about the sexual assault to tarnish his political career and prevent him from becoming prime minister. The High Court last year set June 16 to 19 and June 23 to 25, 2025, for the hearing of the lawsuit.- Bernama
