Zahid urges Umno members to bury the hatchet for GE16 win
Zahid who is also deputy prime minister referenced the rivalry between former Umno Supreme Council member and Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and Pasir Salak Umno division chief Khairul Azwan Harun.
Speaking at the Felcra Berhad Interim Dividend Declaration 1/2025 ceremony in Seberang Perak, he said that unity was key to electoral success.
He joked that applause from the audience might have been louder if a proposal to relocate GiatMARA in Pasir Salak had come from Tajuddin rather than Khairul Azwan.
"Perhaps the applause was less enthusiastic because it was Azwan Bro (Khairul Azwan) who made the request. If it had come from Tajuddin, it might have been louder. But that does not matter, I will ensure both reconcile for the sake of the constituency and its two state seats. What's past is past. We move forward. As a Perak son, Insya Allah, we can achieve victory if we build unity," he said.
Both Tajuddin and Khairul Azwan were present at the event, along with Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang and Felcra CEO Datuk Idris Lasim.
The rivalry between Tajuddin and Khairul Azwan dates back to June 2023, when Tajuddin reportedly demanded an apology over alleged sabotage during the 15th General Election (GE15).
Zahid, who is also the current Pasir Salak MP, confirmed his approval of Khairul Azwan's proposal to relocate the GiatMARA training centre from Kampung Gajah to Ulu Dedap.
"I have agreed to relocate the centre to a new site with courses tailored to local needs, including machinery and agricultural equipment repair," he added.

Shahelmey will contest under GRS, says Hajiji
Hajiji speaking to reporters after the Anak Muda N22/N23/N24 2025 programme. KOTA KINABALU (Aug 17): It is now essentially confirmed that Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya will contest under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) banner in the upcoming state elections. GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, in his speech at the Anak Muda N22/N23/N24 2025 programme in Putatan on Sunday, voiced the coalition's aim to capture all three state seats in the Putatan parliamentary constituency — Tanjung Keramat, Petagas and Tanjung Aru. Responding later to a reporter's question on Shahelmey's 'difficult' political situation — reportedly suspended from Umno for six years and facing the risk of triggering the Anti-Hop Law if he were to defend his Tanjung Keramat seat — Hajiji brushed it off. 'What's so difficult about it? He is both an assemblyman and Member of Parliament. Tatap menang punya (win for sure),' Hajiji said cheerfully. When asked whether Shahelmey would contest under the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket, Hajiji, who is also Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) president, replied: ''Dia ikut' (he will follow) 'siurang' (us in Sabahan slang).' Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin maintains Shahelmey remains part of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) and has repeatedly stated Umno will not renominate him. Meanwhile, Hajiji emphasised the state government's continued commitment to safeguarding the interests of youths in Sabah, noting that youth development is one of the pillars of the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda. 'Youths are not merely beneficiaries, but also agents of change. In a world full of challenges, young people must be leaders of community harmony, guardians of cultural heritage, and supporters of technological progress,' he said. Hajiji said that between 2021 and 2025, a total of 14 new youth-focused initiatives have been introduced with allocations of RM164.14 million, benefitting over 210,000 students. He added that the government has also implemented youth grants, skills training, innovation and entrepreneurship programmes to provide young people with platforms to grow. At the event, Hajiji presented the Young People Programme grant worth RM300,000 to youth NGOs in Tanjung Aru, Petagas and Tanjung Keramat.

Keep legal, political issues separate to safeguard unity government, says Zahid
PASIR SALAK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has advised all political leaders to distinguish between legal and political matters to preserve harmony within the unity government. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, said that legal action must be taken in cases of law violations, while political disputes should be resolved through proper political channels. "We do not want any incident to force a political decision to be made, as this could shake the unity among the 18 parties in the Madani Government. In my view, we must separate legal matters from political matters," he told reporters here on Sunday (Aug 17). He said this after officiating the 'Program Santunan Desa' organised by the Community Development Department (Kemas) in Perak, in collaboration with Village Development and Security Committees and Kemas communities here on Sunday. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, further urged all quarters to respect party decisions to maintain tolerance among component parties. "Do not sensationalise an issue or try to become the most popular figure, only to end up damaging good relations between party leaders and at the grassroots level," he added. – Bernama

Hajiji: Shahelmey will join us for Sabah polls
PUTATAN: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor confirmed today that his deputy, Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, would be joining his team for the upcoming 17th Sabah state election (PRN17). "He will follow siurang (us)," Hajiji said when asked about Shahelmey's status. Despite his six-year suspension from Umno Sabah in 2023, Shahelmey is still regarded as part of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN), according to Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. The term siurang, a local Sabahan expression meaning "us", refers to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which Hajiji leads. Bung Moktar has repeatedly said that Umno would not nominate Shahelmey again following his decision to support Hajiji and the GRS government in January 2023, after Sabah Umno withdrew its support for the chief minister. Speaking after attending the Youth Programme for Tanjung Aru, Petagas and Tanjung Keramat this afternoon, Hajiji expressed confidence that GRS could capture all three state seats in the Putatan parliamentary constituency in PRN17. He also voiced confidence in Shahelmey, who is also the Putatan MP, to defend the Tanjung Keramat seat, which he won under a BN ticket during the 16th state election (PRN16) in September 2020. "It will not be difficult… he will surely win. He is still the assemblyman, and he is also the member of parliament," Hajiji said. Shahelmey, however, risks losing his eligibility as Putatan MP if he contests under a GRS ticket in PRN17 due to the anti-hopping law, as the parliamentary seat was won under a BN ticket in the 15th General Election (GE15) in November 2022. Earlier in his speech, Hajiji, who is also GRS chairman, said the coalition could secure all three state seats in Putatan if the people remain united in supporting the government. "Putatan is fortunate to have a deputy chief minister and elected representatives who actively serve the people. God willing, in this election GRS will take all three state seats. The people of Putatan must unite to ensure this good government is returned," he said. Currently, the Tanjung Aru state seat is held by opposition party Warisan, while Petagas and Tanjung Keramat are aligned with GRS. In PRN16, Petagas was also won by Warisan, but its assemblyman Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari quit the party in February 2023 to join Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), a GRS component party.
