Morgan's Point Resort firefighters upgrade rescue fleet
Thanks to the community's generosity over the last two years, the Morgan's Point Resort Volunteer Firefighter's Association raised over $84,000 towards the purchase of a Pierce Mini-Pumper from the Jollyville Fire Department. Morgan's Point Resort Fire-Rescue says the Association partnered with the City of Morgan's Point Resort as part of a larger plan to replace the aging fleet, enabling taxpayer dollars to go a little further.
Morgan's Point Resort Fire-Rescue says Rescue Squad 61 is built upon a 2018 Ford F550 chassis, and will replace Squad 61 as the department's EMS response vehicle.
The current Squad 61 is a 2017 RAM pick-up with a singular EMS mission – as it is not equipped with a fire pump, water tank, or hose. It was placed in-service during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to a sharp rise in EMS call volume.
Morgan's Point Resort Fire-Rescue says Squad 61 is the busiest unit in the city, answering on 48 percent of all calls since March 2020. This unit will remain in service as a Battalion Chief car, replacing a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe with nearly 180,000 miles on it.
The new apparatus does add to the Squad Program. Though it does not replace a full-size fire engine, it brings 300 gallons of water to the table and a pump capable of flowing 1,500 gallons per minute from a fire hydrant. When added to the Advanced Life Support equipment carried on a squad, the result is a nimble, flexible machine, able to handle virtually any emergency. Morgan's Point Resort Fire-Rescue says presently, if a crew is on an EMS call when a fire drops, they must return to the station and pick-up a truck. Fire doubles in size every minute.
Morgan's Point Resort Fire-Rescue says crews started pump training on the new addition Tuesday night. Graphics will be applied over the next two weeks.
In addition, there will be a push-in ceremony and dedication at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 21 at the Public Safety Center, located at 6 Lake Forest Drive in Morgan's Point Resort.

This is precisely what new cat mom Cindy and her boyfriend experienced on July 14 when they spotted a tiny kitten running across a busy freeway. Without hesitating, they pulled over to the shoulder of the road, and her boyfriend got out of the car to find and grab the runaway kitten. Talk about a sigh of relief! Not only was I holding my breath for the lost kitten and their dangerous dodging act, but I was also incredibly nervous for Cindy and her boyfriend. Getting out of the car on the freeway is so scary, but thankfully, everyone returned to the car unscathed. "OMG, it breaks my heart when kitties get on the highway," one viewer commented. "They get rescued, but OMG, it's just so dangerous." You can say that again! Because the gene that gives cats an orange fur color is a recessive gene that comes from the X chromosome, two copies of the gene are necessary for orange to be the main fur color. Males have XX chromosomes, which makes this result much more likely. Genetic mutations can occur that result in an orange coat on a female cat's XY chromosomes, but this is quite rare. Clearly, Cindy hit the jackpot with her rescued kitten, whom she named Nala, and Nala hit the jackpot with her, too!

A koala had a miraculous escape after being struck by a car and getting stuck to its tyre — and coming out without serious injury. It may also have been a stroke of fortune for Carina, the 18-month-old marsupial, as she was later diagnosed and treated for pneumonia. Koala Rescue in South Australia posted Carina's story to Instagram, saying rescuers were called around 1.15am on Saturday by a 'distressed caller' who reported he had hit a koala and it was stuck on his car tyre. They said: 'As soon as the caller heard his car hit something, he immediately stopped to check and found Carina. He called KRI straight away for help.' Carina would only have just separated from the protection of her mother, Koala Rescue said, and was 'sitting in the middle of the road'. The organisation said: 'Carina was given a quick checkover and found to have no major injuries. 'She was taken to AKAWC for full assessment later that morning and while free from any serious injuries she was diagnosed with pneumonia and is now in care receiving warmth, love and treatment. 'If Carina hadn't been hit by a car and the driver hadn't called KRI and she hadn't gone to AKAWC - she wouldn't now be safe and receiving treatment.'
