Listen: Katseye releases new version of 'Monster High's' 'Fright Song'

July 18 (UPI) -- Girl group Katseye is teaming up with Mattel's Monster High, beginning with a new version of "Fright Song," the Monster High theme song.
A music video features Katseye members Sophia, Lara, Megan, Yoonchae and Manon dressed as mythical creatures from their different cultures.
Megan portrays the Huli Jing, a fox spirit, while Lara is the shapeshifter Rakshasa, Daniela portrays a werewolf and Sophia plays the vampire known as Manananggal.
Yoonchae portrays Jangsanbeom, or the white tiger, while Manon represents a sea monster.
They perform in various high school hallways and by lockers.
The collaboration also features dolls for each of the Katseye members.
"Katseye embodies our core values of Monster High -- bold creativity, fearless self-expression and a commitment to lifting up others. Katseye grew up as fans of the brand. We're thrilled that this collaboration brings our iconic Monster High anthem to life in a whole new way, while continuing our mission to create a world where everyone is proud to be their authentic self," said Mattel executive Krista Berger, in a statement, per Deadline.
The Monster High TV series starring Gabrielle Nevaeh Green, Courtney Lin and Iris Menas aired on Nickelodeon from 2022 to 2024.
Katseye dropped the album Beautiful Chaos in June, which contains five songs.
They recently released music videos for the songs "...Gnarly" and "Gabriela," which both appear on the EP.

The price is $19.99 to rent and $24.99 to own. Retailers include Apple TV+, Fandango at Home, Prime Video, Google Play, YouTube and cable or satellite providers. The film opened June 13 in theaters. Dakota Johnson plays a matchmaker who falls for the brother (Pedro Pascal) of one of her clients. A love triangle forms when her ex-boyfriend (Chris Evans) returns into her life and they reconnect. UPI praised writer/director Celine Song's film in its review, highlighting her poignant take on the contradictions of turning love into a for-profit service. The focus on matchmaking also challenged some of the conventions of Hollywood love stories. Materialists will be on Blu-ray in September. The Blu-ray is available for pre-order. A24 also sells Materialists merchandise including a hat for the fictional Adore matchmaking service, silver heart ring, T-shirt and vinyl soundtrack.

Guitarist Slash will contribute to several experiences. The haunted house Scarecrow: Music By Slash will return featuring a new original score. Slash will also release an album of music from his previous six years of Halloween Horror Night scores, joining last year's sold out album. Slash: The Music of Universal Studios Hollywood - Halloween Horror Nights, Vol. 2 includes tracks from 2021's The Bride of Frankenstein Lives, 2018's Frankenstein Meets. the Wolf Man, 2022's Universal Monsters: Legends Collide and more. Scarecrow takes visitors through a story of scarecrows who punish homesteaders for their sins against the land. A Slash bar will be at Jurassic Cove near the Jurassic World ride, featuring cocktails named after Danse of the Dead, Beautiful Dangerous and the non-alcoholic Slash's Snakepit. They will also serve Slash's picks up Chicken Satay, Thai Beef and Thai Curry Tacos along with a Hat Cake for dessert. Universal Studios previously announced Jason Voorehees, Fallout and Terrifier exhibits at this year's Halloween Horror Nights. UPI previously reviewed exhibits of Chucky, M3gan and Evil Dead. Halloween Horror Nights begins in Hollywood September 4.

Starz greenlights prequel series 'Power: Origins'

July 22 (UPI) -- Cable network Starz announced it has given the greenlight to Power: Origins, a prequel series focused on the lives of Power franchise characters Ghost and Tommy. The show will follow a young Ghost and Tommy as they attempt to make a name for themselves in New York City. Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora originated the roles of James St. Patrick, aka Ghost, and Tommy Egan, respectively, in Power. The network said Power: Origins will have an 18-episode first season and feature the return of MeKai Curtis as Kanan Stark, the role he played in Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson played the older Kanan in Power. "I'm excited to continue to explore the origin stories of the Power Universe's founding fathers," Sascha Penn, the new series' showrunner, writer and executive producer, said in the announcement. "Ghost and Tommy's backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I'm thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won't see coming." Power: Origins will mark the fifth series in the franchise, following Power, Power Book II: Ghost, which follows Ghost's son Tariq, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, featuring Curtis as a young Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force, starring Sikora as an adult Tommy in Chicago. "Our fans have been asking for Ghost and Tommy's origins story since we first met them in Power -- and with the launch of this series, we're delivering in a big way," said Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz. "This marks an electrifying new chapter in the franchise's evolution as we dive deep into the legacy of these iconic characters and the explosive moments that shaped their path."
