James Bond legend, 72, would consider surprise return as 007 ‘in a heartbeat'
The 72-year-old began his reign as 007 in 1995 and appeared in four movies in total – GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day – before Daniel Craig took over the role.
While we're waiting for any hint of who the next actor portraying the suave spy will be, it was recently announced that director Denis Villeneuve will be helming the upcoming movie.
In a new interview to promote his next movie, The Thursday Murder Club, Pierce shared that he would consider a comeback if the filmmaker had 'something up his sleeve'.
When asked if he would take up the role again, and whether it was 'time for a senior citizen 007', he didn't exactly say no…
'My wife Keely [Shaye Smith] and I have been listening to the drumbeat of expectation of who's going to be the next James Bond,' he told the Radio Times.
'There are many great candidates out there, and I'm sure they're going to make it a spectacle of delight.
'I don't think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve I would look at it in a heartbeat.
'Why not? It's great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?'
Someone get Denis on the phone, immediately.
Pierce last appeared as Bond in 2002 blockbuster Die Another Day, and is regarded as one of the best 007s in history.
This isn't the first time that he has touched on possibly popping back up in the franchise – and admitted that he would be tempted.
'Of course, how could I not be interested? But it's a delicate situation now. I think it's best to let sleeping dogs lie, really. I think so,' he previously told GQ, describing the possibility as 'a rather romantic notion and idea'.
He added: 'I think that it's best left to another man, really. Fresh blood.' More Trending
The search for a new lead began after Daniel left the role in 2021, following the release of No Time To Die.
Although film bosses have not yet unveiled his replacement, speculation has gone into overdrive over who could follow in his footsteps.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Idris Elba, Taron Egerton, Henry Golding and Aaron Pierre are just some of the famous faces who have been linked to the franchise.

‘The terrible TV show that almost bankrupted my channel'
The reboot of The X-Files 'almost broke' Channel 5, the broadcaster's chief content officer has revealed. Ben Frow was speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival when he slated the revival series starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as agents Mulder and Scully. Frow was asked to reveal his favourite TV shows of the last 50 years, naming the hugely influential sci-fi series which first aired from 1993 to 2002. It was revived in 2016, with additional episodes airing in 2018, and the first episode at the time drew in the biggest audience in Channel 5's history for a drama. Over 5million TV viewers tuned in live or caught up online the week after it was broadcast. It was the biggest show launch since Celebrity Big Brother hit Channel 5 screens in 2011. But Frow told the crowd at Edinburgh TV Festival The X-Files was a 'rubbish mega series'. 'We put a lot of money into that – it almost broke us.' The conversation was unusually honest, with Frow admitting the first six months of 2025 had been 'grim' for Channel 5. He also called two of its most highly-anticipated series, reboots of Challenge Anneka and Faking It, 'disasters'. 'I was stunned Faking it was such a disaster,' he said. 'It was so brilliantly made.' The noughties life-swapping show was rebooted this year. Every episode of Faking It saw a plucky volunteer dropped into a foreign world, with just four weeks to get to grips with a new skill and convince a panel of experts they're the genuine article. Frow explained: 'I think in the New World Order you don't have to watch a show to get what the show is so we kind of encourage people not to watch the programme, but I was very surprised. 'I also wonder if Faking It as a title since fake news came – you know, it was 20 years ago.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Challenge Anneka was another flop for Channel 5, but in hindsight Frow said he knew it was doomed before it even made it to air. More Trending Originally airing on BBC from 1989 to 1995, the show followed Anneka Rice being given a task without any prior knowledge, with a tight deadline to complete it. usually in aid for a charitable cause. But Challenge Anneka's second lease of life was quickly cut off and its final episode never even aired. It was ditched from Channel 5's weekend schedule after just two episodes. 'We realised about two weeks before we put it out, 'Hang on a minute. This is just a big makeover show.' We've had big home renovation shows since then and the world has changed so much that what Annika was doing was really ambitious 20, 30 years ago,' Frow said. Thursday Murder Club stars Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley shared an emotional moment when the cameras weren't rolling. WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Thursday Murder Club. The Thursday Murder Club's Ben Kingsley was 'very touched' when he started working with Helen Mirren on the Netflix film. Richard Osman 's The Thursday Murder Club revolves around four retirees who revel looking into cold cases, only to find themselves involved in investigating a modern-day murder. As well as the head-scratching case they need to crack, the Netflix film focuses on the friendship between Elizabeth Best (played by Helen Mirren), Ron Ritchie (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim Arif (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce Meadowcroft (Celia Imrie). There was also clearly a real-life friendship among the stars as Kingsley and Mirren shared during The Thursday Murder Club: An Evening with Richard Osman at The British Library. The actors revealed that a staggering 58 years had passed since the pair worked in theatre together and it was an emotional experience when they reunited. Kingsley expressed: 'I was very touched when Helen and I met again for the read-through because Helen burst into tears. 'I was very touched. A lovely reunion." Mirren explained: "Our work takes us off constantly and Ben and I started out in the theatre together at the same age, with the same ambition of being serious classical actors. 'Then Ben went off and had the amazing career he has had and I went off and did my thing. 'And now we are back together again.' Mirren hasn't just previously worked with the 81-year-old Gandhi actor though. The Queen actress also has a connection to actress Imrie as they both starred in the 2003 comedy-drama film Calendar Girls. They play two women involved in a charitable institution but when Annie's (Julie Walters) husband is diagnosed with leukaemia, a group of friends decide to pose nude for a calendar that raises funds for the local hospital. Hollyoaks actor urges 'murdered' mum's friends not to go to stepdad's funeral
An actor whose mother was victim of a murder-suicide has urged her friends not to attend the suspected killer's funeral. Dawn Kerr was found dead alongside her husband Andrew Searle's body in the Aveyron region of France on February 6. The prosecutor in charge of the case previously described the case as a murder-suicide, in which Searle is alleged to have killed his wife before taking his own life. There was no evidence that anyone else was involved in the deaths. Prosecutor Fabrice Belargent previously said that 'the analysis carried out does not so far show any evidence that a third party was involved'. More than six months later Searle's body has been released by the French authorities and his funeral has been planned. But Dawn's two children, Hollyoaks actor Callum Kerr along with his sister Amanda, have issued a statement asking friends of their mum not to attend his funeral. They said that while the investigation into the deaths was ongoing, they 'cannot ignore the circumstances as they stand'. In the statement shared on social media, the siblings said: 'In the absence of any evidence suggesting third-party involvement in the tragic death of our mother, Dawn Kerr, the prevailing hypothesis remains that of a murder-suicide. 'Our mother was killed by multiple blows to the head, and Andrew was found deceased by hanging. 'His injuries are consistent with self-hanging, and no defensive wounds were found on his body. 'While the official investigation is ongoing, we cannot ignore the circumstances as they stand. 'For this reason, we must respectfully but firmly request that our mother not be included in any way in the funeral arrangements being made for Andrew. 'Please do not share photographs of them together. Please do not attend Andrew's service if you were a friend of our mother. 'It would be inappropriate for her memory to be associated with a service honouring the man who, based on all available evidence, may have been responsible for her death. 'We ask for understanding, privacy and respect as we continue to grieve and seek justice for our mum.' More Trending Dawn's body was found in the garden of the couple's home in Les Pesquiès, about an hour north of Toulouse, with severe wounds to her head. Searle's body was found inside the house. Police were called after a neighbour went to check on the couple when they didn't turn up to a planned dog walk. The couple, who were both aged in their 60s, previously lived in Musselburgh, near Edinburgh, and married in France in 2023 with son Callum walking Dawn down the aisle. They had lived in the Aveyron region for five years. Callum played PC George Kiss in Hollyoaks, and has also appeared in Netflix's Virgin River. He lives in the US where he also has a country music career. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page.
