Negeri Sembilan KPDN seizes 1,000 litres of subsidised diesel in Seremban

The Sun25-07-2025
SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) confiscated approximately 1,000 litres of subsidised diesel during operations Op Tiris and Op Jeriji in Taman Angsamas. The raid, conducted late yesterday evening, also led to the seizure of a Daihatsu lorry, a 1,000-litre IBC tank, a water storage tank, a pump, and pipe hoses, with a total estimated value of RM18,912.91.
S. Veerapan, State Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman, stated that the inspection uncovered unauthorised diesel storage at a residential property, suspected for distribution. 'An individual, identified as the owner of the lorry and premises, was responsible for the operation,' he said in a statement today.
Investigations revealed that the suspect did not possess a permit to store controlled goods, potentially violating Regulation 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974. Further inquiries are ongoing. Veerapan emphasised that trading controlled goods without a permit is a serious offence, threatening consumer safety and market stability. - Bernama

Negeri Sembilan rare earth elements to boost state revenue from 2027

SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan state government anticipates rare earth elements (REE) to significantly enhance state revenue starting in 2027. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun revealed that two approved mineral tenement licenses are projected to generate RM18 million. 'REE deposits identified in districts like Kuala Pilah and Jelebu are expected to play a major role in state income,' Aminuddin said during the State Legislative Assembly session. He was responding to a query from Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (BN-Rantau), presented by Kamarol Ridzuan Mohd Zain (PN-Paroi), regarding progressive revenue strategies for the B40 group. Additional revenue streams include water commodity transformation and service charges promoting economic sustainability. The state government's quit rent amendment (PCT) and parcel tax adjustments under the National Land Code and Strata Titles Act could raise RM400 million in quit rent revenue by 2029. To further bolster income, the Forestry Department will introduce conservation fees for selected Forest Eco Parks. Citizens will pay RM3 per entry, while non-citizens will be charged RM6, with exemptions for children, seniors, and persons with disabilities. Ulu Bendul Rimba Eco Park will pilot the initiative. 'The fee is designed to be affordable, ensuring minimal burden on the B40 group while funding forest conservation and facility maintenance,' Aminuddin explained. The move aims to improve recreational safety and comfort while supporting environmental efforts. The state remains committed to a fair and inclusive quit rent system, prioritizing welfare initiatives for all residents, particularly the underprivileged. - Bernama

Malaysian billionaire Ong Beng Seng pleads guilty in S'pore

SINGAPORE: Malaysian billionaire property developer Ong Beng Seng entered a guilty plea on August 4 for abetting obstruction of justice in the high-profile corruption case involving Singapore's former transport minister S. Iswaran. According to The Straits Times, the 79-year-old tycoon appeared in the island republic's State Courts wearing a face mask, acknowledging his role in obstructing justice related to a December 2022 Qatar trip that he sponsored for Iswaran. Court proceedings revealed that Ong invited Iswaran to join him on the Doha journey, covering all expenses including private jet transportation valued at approximately US$7,700 (RM32,916), luxury hotel accommodation at the Four Seasons costing S$4,737.63, and a business-class return flight worth S$5,700. The corruption investigation took a crucial turn in May 2023 when Singapore's Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau discovered flight manifests during an unrelated probe. Upon learning of the seizure, Ong contacted Iswaran, prompting the former minister to request retroactive billing for the Qatar trip expenses. Prosecutors argued that Ong's agreement to arrange payment through Singapore GP, with Iswaran subsequently issuing a S$5,700 (RM18,890) cheque, demonstrated intent to obstruct justice by reducing the likelihood of further investigation. The legal proceedings faced multiple delays due to Ong's medical condition - he suffers from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer affecting bone marrow. Originally scheduled to plead guilty in April 2025, the hearing was postponed to accommodate his medical treatment requirements. Iswaran was previously sentenced to 12 months imprisonment in October 2024 after pleading guilty to charges including accepting valuable gifts as a public servant and obstructing justice. Ong faces potential penalties of up to seven years imprisonment and fines, with sentencing scheduled for August 15.
