Sarah Jessica Parker dips into her Sex and the City ‘archive' wardrobe for parties
The actress, 60, played Carrie Bradshaw on the hit HBO show on and off since 1998 and has now admitted she has occasionally worn clothing from the character's iconic collection which she has amassed while playing the relationship columnist.
She told People about dong it when she attended a birthday party in England: 'I just did it.'
But she stressed it was 'one of the few occasions I've ever pulled from the archive for personal use'.
She also emphasised she is 'very thoughtful' when making such decisions, and considers the appropriateness and safety of the occasion to ensure the preservation of the garments.
Sarah's connection to Carrie's wardrobe goes beyond occasional personal use.
She has retained all of the original costumes, including clothes and furniture, from the Sex and the City and And Just Like That... series.
In a December 2021 interview with Vogue, the actress explained she had kept every single item, packed according to season, episode and scene.
She expressed interest in one day showcasing the collection in a public exhibit, stating: 'If it's the right place that can do right by what it meant, that it's really about (designers) Molly (Rogers), Danny (Santiago), and Patricia (Field), and maybe it's a bigger conversation that includes something else from cinema too – that's about costumes and stories and women on film.'
Her sentiment was echoed during a question and answer session hosted by Threads at il Buco al Mare in Amagansett, New York, on 11 August.
The fashion legacy of Sex and the City and its spinoffs has been a defining element since the series' original run from 1998 to 2004, its two follow-up films, and most recently the revival series And Just Like That..., which concluded its latest season on 14 August.
Throughout all the projects, fashion has played a significant role for Sarah, as well as her co-stars Kristin Davis (who plays Charlotte York), Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones), and Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes.)
In the series finale of And Just Like That..., costume designers Molly and Danny styled Carrie's final outfit, a voluminous cranberry Molly Goddard crinoline skirt paired with a pink sequined L'Wren Scott cardigan, a vintage plaid coat from London's Portobello Market, a Vivienne Westwood purse, fuchsia heels from the SJP Collection, and a velvet-pink vintage hat.
The ensemble served as a maturer homage to Carrie's original pink tutu from the Sex and the City opening sequence.

The Kelly Clarkson Show reportedly won't be delayed following Brandon Blackstock's death
The Kelly Clarkson Show's filming schedule reportedly won't be impacted by the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The talent manager died on August 7, aged 48, of natural causes after battling malignant melanoma. Kelly postponed her Las Vegas residency in order to spend more time with their children, River, 11, and Remington, nine, right before his death. In an update regarding her work schedule, a source told Deadline that Kelly missed one shoot for The Voice earlier this month following his passing, but that she was returning this week to film the NBC talent show. Reba McEntire, who was stepmother to Brandon, also filmed her appearance for Season 28. As for her eponymous talk show, production is said to be due to kick off as planned in a matter of weeks. As reported by the outlet, the programme is "on track to start production in early September as scheduled, with tickets available on studio audience sites." Brandon's death was announced by a family representative on the day he died. They told People at the time: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time." The 43-year-old pop star - who endured an acrimonious split from the talent manager - had announced on X shortly before his passing: "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them." Although the singer revealed that Brandon was ill, she didn't share any other details about his sickness.

Aubrey Plaza describes grief as 'a giant ocean of awfulness' following suicide of husband Jeff Baena
Aubrey Plaza has described her grief as "a giant ocean of awfulness" following the death of her estranged husband, Jeff Baena. The screenwriter and director took his own life on January 3, aged 47, with his body discovered at his home in Los Angeles, California, by his dog walker. Plaza - who had separated from Baena in September 2024 - admits every day is a "struggle" as she continues to mourn the painful loss seven months on. Asked how she is doing by her Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast, she said: 'Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Overall, I'm here and I'm functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I'm okay, but it's like a daily struggle, obviously." She continued: 'This is a really dumb analogy and it was kind of a joke at a certain point, but I actually mean it. Did you see that movie The Gorge? It's like [an] alien movie or something with Miles Teller. In the movie, there's like a cliff on one side and there's a cliff on the other side, then there's gorge in between and it's filled with all these like monster people that are trying to get them. 'I swear when I watched it, I was like that feels like what my grief is like … or what grief could be like. 'At all times there's like a giant ocean of awfulness, that's like right there and I can see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it's always there.' Breaking her silence on his death three days later, Plaza had said in a statement given to People: "This is an unimaginable tragedy. "We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. "Please respect our privacy during this time."
