BTS member Jungkook officially completed his mandatory military service on June 11, 2025, and greeted fans for the first time since his enlistment.
Alongside fellow BTS member Jimin, Jungkook was discharged from the South Korean army after serving 18 months as an active duty soldier in the 5th Infantry Division's artillery brigade.
Following the completion of their discharge procedures, Jungkook and Jimin traveled to Yeoncheon Public Stadium in Gyeonggi Province, where they met with fans and media without a formal event.
Jungkook expressed his gratitude to fans, saying, 'Thank you for welcoming us after our discharge.' Appearing visibly shy in front of the cameras, he added, 'It's been so long since I've been on camera that I didn't wear any makeup. I'm embarrassed and don't know what to say.'
He went on to thank his fellow servicemen and officers, stating, 'I want to thank our seniors who served before us, our juniors still in the army, our peers who discharged earlier, and all the officers who took care of us.'

BTS to record unreleased Michael Jackson track for 2026 tribute album produced by Rodney Jerkins

BTS will contribute to a forthcoming Michael Jackson tribute album by recording one of the late artist's previously unreleased songs, according to an official announcement shared by Big Hit Music on Instagram early Monday morning. The tribute project, scheduled for release in 2026, features songs Jackson created while in Ireland in 2006. 'As a tribute to Michael Jackson, the album brings to life the songs he worked on during his time in Ireland. Work began last year, and BTS has already recorded one of the songs,' the statement said. The album is being produced by Rodney Jerkins, who notably worked with Jackson on his 2001 album Invincible. While the title and sound of the BTS-recorded track remain under wraps, the collaboration has already drawn significant attention from fans of both global icons. In addition to the album, the unreleased BTS track is expected to appear in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, set for release in cinemas in April 2026. The film and album together aim to celebrate Jackson's legacy through new interpretations of his lesser-known work. BTS, known for their global impact and wide-ranging collaborations, continue to explore cross-genre projects as they return from their temporary group hiatus. This tribute marks one of their most high-profile recordings in the lead-up to their anticipated full-group comeback.

‘Extreme Job' actor Song Young-kyu found dead amid recent DUI controversy

South Korean actor Song Young-kyu, best known for his role as Sergeant Choi in the 2019 film Extreme Job, was discovered deceased inside a parked vehicle in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province on August 4 at around 8 am, confirmed by police. An acquaintance found him and immediately notified authorities. Officials reported no signs of foul play or a suicide note. Song, who was 55 years old, had recently come under scrutiny after a drunk driving incident on June 19, when he was caught driving roughly 5 km under the influence. His blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit, prompting license revocation and sending the case to prosecution without detention. Following the incident, Song stepped away from several projects. He withdrew from the stage production Shakespeare in Love, and production teams for the dramas The Defects and The Winning Try announced plans to edit his scenes or rework them accordingly. Song began his career in 1994, earning recognition over more than three decades in film, television, and theater. In addition to his role in Extreme Job, he appeared in popular series such as Reply 1988, Narco-Saints, and Big Bet. At the time of this report, authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of his death, including discussions with family members and consideration of an autopsy. Details remain limited.

TWICE's mics cut off at Lollapalooza 2025 amid encore chants

During their headlining set at Lollapalooza 2025 in Chicago, K-pop group TWICE had their microphones cut off after remaining on stage following a crowd-led encore chant. The group had completed a 21-song performance when fans began chanting for 'one more song.' Members of TWICE stayed on stage in response, visibly interacting with the audience and acknowledging the calls. As seen in video footage from the event, one member asked the crowd, 'You guys want some more?' before their microphones were unexpectedly cut. Another member was heard attempting to speak before saying, 'The mic is—' as the audio feed ended. #TWICE dominated Lollapalooza, performing 21 songs nonstop and returning for an extra one because the crowd kept asking for more. In the end, their mics had to be turned off — they refused to leave the stage. That's how powerful they are. — Pop Core (@TheePopCore) August 3, 2025 The group remained on stage briefly, continuing to wave, bow, and gesture in appreciation before exiting. TWICE's appearance marked one of the most anticipated moments of the festival, drawing a large crowd. The performance was part of an extended tour of major Western festivals featuring top K-pop acts. Despite the abrupt end, the group completed their full setlist prior to the encore chants. The moment has since circulated on social media through fan-captured clips and recaps, with no reports of technical difficulties during the earlier part of the show.
