Taluk offices to be set up at Ponnampet, Kushalnagar soon: Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda

The Hindu7 days ago
Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Friday said that the construction of new Taluk Administration Buildings (Prajasaudha) in Ponnampet and Kushalnagar in Kodagu district will begin shortly.
He was speaking to media persons during his visit to the district. The Minister noted that though the two taluks were created more than 7 years ago, taluk offices have not yet been constructed, and said that the projects for the same would be expedited.
The government has sanctioned ₹8.65 crore each for the two buildings, and the tender process has been completed, he added.
Mr. Byre Gowda also inspected the proposed sites for the buildings and visited a bridge near Balyamandur. He said that the government was accelerating efforts to scan and digitally preserve original land ownership records across taluk offices to ensure landowners have guaranteed access to their documents.
'Preserving land records and making them accessible at the fingertips of landowners is the core objective of the Land Security Scheme,' said the Minister. The initiative aims to prevent loss, tampering, or forgery of land records, which often leads to disputes, he added.
With regard to digitisation of land records, the Minister said that the department has already scanned 33.5 crore pages of land records against the target of completing the scan of 100 crore pages of documents and records across Karnataka. This, he said, would serve as a legal guarantee for land records.
Mr. Byre Gowda emphasised the need for strict implementation of recent reforms in the Revenue Department and urged officials to adopt modern technology to deliver citizen services efficiently.
On the issue of recurring landslides in Kodagu, the Minister said that the government will allocate ₹50 crore for constructing retaining walls. The funds will be released soon by the Chief Minister, he added.
The Minister said full ownership rights would be extended to rightful landowners, and records dating back 30 to 40 years would be rectified where necessary, offering a long-term solution.
MLA for Virajpet A.S. Ponnanna apprised the Minister of rain damage in Kodagu district. Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu Venkat Raja, ZP CEO Anand Prakash Meena, and officials from PWD and various other departments were present.

Jagan alleges ‘undeclared emergency' in state

Nellore: YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the TDP-led coalition government of creating an undeclared emergency-like situation in the state by misusing police to file false cases against opposition leaders. During a one-day tour in Nellore district, Jagan visited former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy at Nellore central prison to offer support and later met the family of former Kovur MLA Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy at their residence in Sujathamma Colony. While Govardhana Reddy is in jail for his role in illegal mining, Prasanna Kumar Reddy is facing criminal charges for making derogatory comments against Kovuru MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy. Addressing the media, Jagan warned Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of 'severe consequences' for promoting vindictive politics, including orchestrating attacks on opposition leaders' homes. 'Criticism is common in politics, but sending armed mobs to attack Prasanna Kumar Reddy's house is clear evidence of the TDP's 'red book constitution' in Andhra Pradesh,' he said. Jagan questioned the government's deployment of a large police force, road blockades, and unprecedented restrictions to prevent people from meeting him. He accused Naidu of using these tactics to divert attention from unfulfilled election promises. The YSRCP chief alleged that Naidu derives 'sadistic pleasure' by filing false cases to keep opposition leaders, including Kakani Govardhan Reddy, in jail for extended periods. He claimed that despite a village revenue officer's statement denying illegal quarrying at Rusthum Mines in Tatiparthi village, Podalakuru mandal, the government falsely implicated Govardhan Reddy in 14 cases, including an illegal mining case and an SC/ST case, as part of its vendetta politics. Jagan further alleged that YSRCP leaders such as Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Jogi Ramesh, Nandigama Suresh, Pennelli Ramakrishna Reddy, and others have been targeted. He claimed PV Midhun Reddy was jailed due to a past college rivalry between his father, Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy, and Naidu. Condemning the TDP's use of foul language against YSRCP leaders like RK Roja, Rajani, and ZP Chairperson Harika, Jagan asked, 'If we retaliate in the same manner, where will democracy stand?' He said public discontent, noting that students have not received fee reimbursements for six quarters, farmers are denied MSP, and Aarogyasri dues remain unpaid, depriving the poor of quality healthcare. Jagan vowed to hold all corrupt individuals accountable, stating, 'No one involved in wrongdoing will be spared, regardless of their position'.

Maharashtra govt to issue property titles to five lakh dispalced Sindhi families

The Maharashtra government will issue property titles to around five lakh displaced Sindhi families living in 35 cities across the state, excluding Thane and Ulhasnagar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced on Tuesday. The decision will be part of a series of measures to be implemented during the state's upcoming Revenue Week, from August 1 to 7, 2025. Key decisions during the week include regularising pre-2011 encroachments on state government land, resolving disputes over farm roads, and penalising violations of lease agreements on government-allotted land. Around 30 lakh families will benefit from the state government decision of regularising pre-2011 encroachments on state government lands. The state cabinet had taken the decision in year 2018 which will be re-enforced in the revenue week. During the week, district collectors will conduct a survey to assess if land leased by the government is being used for its intended purpose. In cases of misuse or encroachment, the land will be reclaimed by the state, Bawankule said. He said that 'Special Abhay Yojana-2025' will be implemented, and residential and commercial lands in 30 colonies of the Sindhi community, who migrated after the partition of 1947, will be regularized and made free-hold (occupier class-1) by breaking the conditions as per the move comes as part of a special policy led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to address long-standing demands of the Sindhi community, fulfilling the promise made in the election manifesto. The Sindhi community in 30 colonies in the state, including Nagpur, Jalgaon, Mumbai, will get legal ownership rights of their houses and establishments. 'This scheme will be implemented through the Revenue Department. This will give justice to the demands of the Sindhi community for years,' Bawankule said. Bawankule also said that the government has decided to give priority to the use of artificial sand (M sand). 'Action will be taken to implement this policy and complete the policy as per the new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Under this, workshops/camps etc. will be organized on August 7 to make this policy a success,' said Bawankule. Additionally, the government will launch the Rashtraneta to Rashtrapita Abhiyan from September 17 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday — to October 2, Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. As part of this drive, a Face App will be introduced to help revenue officers mark attendance from their respective field locations. A drone-based survey of all rural land parcels will also begin shortly, with the goal of issuing property cards to every household in villages within the next two years.

‘Over 42,000 fake birth certificates of illegal Bangladeshis cancelled in Maharashtra till now, but many more exist'

Over 42,000 'fake' birth certificates to Bangladeshis staying illegally in Maharashtra have so far been cancelled by the Maharashtra government. In a special drive, the State government will cancel all the 'fake' certificates issued to illegal Bangladeshis till August 15, Maharashtra revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Wednesday. He said that the number of such birth certificates to be cancelled in the coming drive is likely to be much higher than the number of certificates cancelled so far. 'By 15 August, all the fake birth certificates will be cancelled,' he said. 'Many illegal Bangladeshis have so far taken birth certificates in Maharashtra. But now, we have formed a task force to look into it. The Collectors have been given the responsibility at the district level to cancel all the fake certificates. These certificates will be collected till August 15. We have informed them that they should send a copy of these cancelled certificate to the Health Department as well as to the Revenue Department,' Mr Bawankule said. He has already spoken with the Chief Secretary of the State over the issue. The State government has started working on it as a part of the task force. As per the data provided by BSF, Maharashtra has so far handed over 110 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The State government has also set up a Special Investigation Team to probe into the issuance of birth and death certificates after a BJP leader had claimed a large-scale scam of fake birth certificates to illegal Bangladeshis. Kirit Somaiya had alleged that many illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and Rohingyas were staying in parts of Maharashtra by using fake documents.
