PLI schemes see actual investment of Rs 1.76 lakh crore, create over 12 lakhs jobs: Minister

Hans India22-07-2025
New Delhi: The production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes have realised actual investment of Rs. 1.76 lakh crore till March 2025 across 14 sectors, which has resulted in incremental production/sales of over Rs. 16.5 lakh crore and employment generation of over 12 lakhs (direct and indirect), the Parliament was informed on Tuesday.
To date, 806 applications have been approved under PLI schemes across 14 sectors. These schemes have incentivized domestic manufacturing, leading to increased production, job creation and a boost in exports, said Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
The pharmaceuticals sector has witnessed cumulative sales of Rs 2.66 lakh crore which includes exports of Rs 1.70 lakh crore achieved in the first three years of the scheme.
The scheme has contributed to India becoming a net exporter of bulk drugs (Rs 2,280 crore) from net importer (-1,930 crore) as was the case in FY 2021-22. It has also resulted in significant reduction in gap between the domestic manufacturing capacity and demand of critical drugs.
Under the PLI Scheme for medical devices, 21 projects have started manufacturing of 54 unique medical devices, which include high end devices such as Linear Accelerator (LINAC), MRI, CT-Scan, Heart Valve, Stent, Dialyzer Machine, C-Arm, Cath Lab, Mammograph, MRI Coils, etc, the minister informed the House.
The production of mobiles in value terms has increased by around 146 per cent from Rs 2,13,773 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 5,25,000 crore in 2024-25 as per industry association and DGCIS.
During the same period, exports of mobile phones in value terms has increased by around 775 per cent from Rs 22,870 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 2,00,000 crore in 2024-25, he added.
'Cumulative incentive amount of Rs 21,534 crore have been disbursed as on 24.06.2025 under PLI Scheme for 12 sectors, namely Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing (LSEM), IT Hardware, Bulk Drugs, Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals, Telecom & Networking Products, Food Processing, White Goods, Drones & Drone Components, Specialty Steel, Textile products and Automobiles & Auto components, the minister highlighted.

Petrol allowance proposed instead of car hire for HDMC officials

Hubballi: Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) aims to reduce vehicle-related costs by providing petrol allowances to officials instead of hiring vehicles annually. HDMC commissioner's proposal aims to implement a cost-effective solution by adopting the BBMP model for official vehicle usage. Under the new system, eligible officials in group A and B categories would receive petrol allowances instead of being provided with hired vehicles. If the plan gets a nod in a forthcoming general body meeting, the system is expected to be implemented. The modification would impact roughly 47 officials across different sections and regions of the municipal corporation. HDMC maintains a fleet of 7 vehicles, allocated to the mayor, deputy mayor, superintending engineer, and other officials, while additionally contracting vehicles on annual rental arrangements. Currently, the annual expenditure on hired vehicles amounts to over Rs 1.4 crore. The situation became more challenging as the vehicle providing agency expressed its inability to supply vehicles with drivers and discontinued its services from June. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Find The Best Results For Fuerteventura Holiday Offers Now! The estimated annual expenditure under the new allowance system would be around Rs 90 lakh, resulting in significant savings of around Rs 50 lakh for the municipal corporation. This reduction in expenditure would help HDMC manage its resources more efficiently without compromising the mobility requirements of its officials. The corporation plans to establish clear guidelines for the allowance system, including the monthly allocation based on the official's rank and responsibilities. This systematic approach will ensure transparent and fair distribution of allowances while maintaining proper records. The HDMC's initiative demonstrates a practical approach to resource management and cost optimisation, following successful models implemented in other municipal corporations, said Mohan C, social activist. Rudresh Ghali, commissioner, HDMC, explained that after observing the initiative taken by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), they decided to implement a similar approach in Hubballi-Dharwad. The proposal has been included in the general body meeting's agenda. He further stated that upon receiving approval during the general body meeting, they would execute this plan as a trial and conduct a practical cost assessment.

MMRDA deposits Rs 560 crore with Bombay high court registry in arbitration dispute with Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) deposited Rs 560.2 crore with the registry of Bombay high court in an arbitration matter involving Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd, in accordance with a directive recently issued by Supreme Court. MMOPL, a joint venture between Reliance Infrastructure and MMRDA, is a special purpose vehicle set up to run the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro 1 corridor. In Aug 2023, a three-member arbitral tribunal awarded Rs 992 crore to MMOPL as compensation for cost escalations and contractual disagreements. With interest accrued till May 2025, the total award rose to Rs 1,169 crore. The court observed that MMOPL's arbitration win could not be rendered meaningless during the pendency of MMRDA's challenge to the award. It noted that MMRDA failed to make a prima facie case to justify a stay without deposit. HC also pointed out that MMRDA, as a 26% equity holder in MMOPL, was involved in key financial decisions and project execution. The audit committee of MMOPL, chaired by an MMRDA nominee, endorsed the financial statements on which the tribunal partly relied. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses In Bolon Container House | Search ads Search Now It concluded that the award — passed by a 2:1 majority — could not be dismissed as perverse or arbitrary. MMRDA filed a challenge under Section 34 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, calling the award illegal and based on flawed assumptions regarding project delays, rent recovery, and cost escalations. MMOPL, in turn, accused the authority of attempting to backtrack from previously approved decisions. After the HC ruling, MMRDA approached Supreme Court, which granted partial relief by allowing it to deposit only 50% of the award amount pending final adjudication. In a stock exchange filing, Reliance Infrastructure confirmed that MMRDA complied with the SC order and deposited Rs 560.2 crore with the HC registry. The final outcome of this arbitration matter is likely to set a precedent for public-private partnership infrastructure disputes in India. S
