Reflections on returning to theatre
Talking to Free Press Journal, Mishra candidly discussed his return to theatre after years of working in films. He expressed that he is reliving the theatre life once again, mentioning how they sit on the floor for hours, watching each other's performances while enjoying vada pav and chai, feeling a raw joy. He pointed out that in films, once a shot is done, actors disappear into their vanity vans, surrounded by hierarchies and egos.
However, in theatre, everyone is equal and together.
Film versus stage—Mishra's perspective
When questioned about the contrast between acting in films and theatre, the veteran actor highlighted that films are very technical, with many lenses that capture your expressions and convey them to the audience. In theatre, only the actor is present, fully exposed, and responsible for reaching each member of the audience personally.
For him, theatre is a return to purity where the actor's craft alone must engage the audience without the support of technology or post-production.
After performing in Ghasiram Kotwal, he feels inspired to pursue more theatre, enjoying this phase once again and intending to continue with it.
Theatre roots and renewed connection
Mishra, known for his great work in films like 'Masaan', 'Ankhon Dekhi' and 'Vadh', started his career in theatre. He studied at the National School of Drama (NSD) and spent his early years acting in plays. Now, with Ghasiram Kotwal, he is going back to his roots and enjoying the close connection that theatre offers.
