The Flash & Wonder Woman Get Key DCU Update From James Gunn
James Gunn on whether The Flash and Wonder Woman were canon in Peacemaker
When co-host Steve Agee noted that kids in a Season 1 classroom scene mention the two heroes, James Gunn responded, 'Yeah, are they canon? I don't know. We'll have to wait and see. I mean, they'll exist eventually. Whether they exist now, I don't know.'
This marked his first official comment on the DCU's present-day Flash since the reboot began. Gunn had previously revealed that Ezra Miller's Flash cameo in the Season 1 finale, alongside the Justice League, was not DCU canon.
In the DCEU, The Flash (2023) marked the character's final film before the DCU relaunch. The DCU has already teased a new speedster through a Max Mercury mural in Superman and introduced its first live-action Superman, played by David Corenswet. Gunn had said earlier that neither Flash nor Aquaman would appear in the DCU for at least two years. This gap allows space between their DCEU portrayals and future DCU debuts.
Regarding Wonder Woman, Gunn's remarks suggest she will appear in the DCU but may differ from the DCEU's long-lived Themysciran warrior. A Wonder Woman project is in development under Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios leadership.
Separately, a rumor from scooper @MyTimeToShineH claims the Season 1 Justice League cameo will be replaced in Peacemaker Season 2 with the Justice Gang, first seen in Superman (2025). In the reshot version, Mister Terrific, Superman, Supergirl, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl appear, with only the latter two fully visible. The exchange between Aquaman and Flash is replaced by a gag involving Peacemaker, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl.
Peacemaker Season 2 features returning cast members John Cena, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and Danielle Brooks. It premieres August 21, 2025, on HBO Max.

'Peacemaker' Season 2 star Jennifer Holland talks Emilia Harcourt 'struggling with some demons'
On the heels of James Gunn's Superman, Peacemaker Season 2 arrives (Thursdays on Crave in Canada) with a story that takes its character to really emotional places, but still retains its wit. John Cena, Jennifer Holland, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma and Steve Agee return, with Frank Grillo, Sol Rodriguez and Tim Meadows joining this star-studded cast. Trauma is really where we start the show's new season. As we saw in Season 1, Leota Adebayo (Brooks) exposed her mom and government's involvement in Project Butterfly, which has resulted in 11th Street Kids being blacklisted from working for the government. But it has also strengthened this bond between Adebayo and Chris Smith, aka Peacemaker (Cena), as people who were constantly seeking approval from their parents. "I freaking love the relationship between Peacemaker and Adebayo, I think they just are what I would hope to be a reflection of how people want to live their lives. People that have different walks of life coming together and really bonding and loving the differences that they carry, versus rejecting them," Brooks said. "They bonded ... off of their parents totally being dicks, ... but this season Adebayo's really, because of the decision she made to out her mom, is standing on her own business and what she wants for her life. And we are going to watch Peacemaker really try to figure out his footing." "So you're watching one person who is trying to live as happy as she can with the life she's given, and then watching Peacemaker choosing, really, to live a different life. And you're just going to see them come together and try to figure it out." Jennifer Holland on Emilia Harcourt: 'I think she's unraveling a little bit' For Holland's character Emilia Harcourt, she starts the season in a place of complete desperation as she's been rejected from working for every intelligence agency. "She is in a completely different place than she was last season, and that's really cool," Holland said. "One of the things I love about James's projects as a viewer, as a fan, is that he likes to see his characters grow and change. Whether they're growing or falling apart, ... they're always evolving in a way, and that's really fun to play. You don't have to necessarily approach it exactly the same way every time and you get to tackle different emotional undercurrents. And this was no exception for me." "I had a really wonderful time getting to dive deeper into Emilia's psyche and see what's going on with her. And some of the things that James and I spoke about in Season 1, about why she was doing what she was doing, why she was sitting in the bar looking for a fight with large men in Season 1, what was going on with her there, and we get to explore it a little bit more in Season 2." Speaking more to where we find Emilia, the actor said her character is really "struggling with some demons" in Season 2. "She's in a very vulnerable place, but she doesn't want to show that she's in a vulnerable place," Holland said. "I think she was put in a vulnerable position when she almost died at the end of Season 1, and she also is opening up to these relationships with the 11th Street Kids in a way that I think makes her feel uncomfortable." "I think she goes a little too far with how much she's opening up and she's trying to button back up again, and so I think she's unraveling a little bit. ... She's not a superhero. She's just a human being who's very capable, and so she's purposefully putting herself into positions where she will get injured." Steve Agee working with Tim Meadows: 'One of the funniest days of my life' Meanwhile, the tech genius John Economos (Agee) continues to work for the Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans (A.R.G.U.S.), but it's a complicated role to hold with his friendships. "I loved getting the scripts for Season 2 and seeing Economos is still growing as a person and trying to show his loyalty to his friends, despite still trying to be loyal to A.R.G.U.S., even though they're kind of trying to undermine his friendship with Peacemaker and the rest of the gang," Agee said. But Economos also has some amazing scenes with new cast member Tim Meadows, who plays supervisor to Economos, Langston Fleury. And that's a circumstance where the comedy really shines, including a particularly hysterical moments when they're in a van together. "Tim and I both come from comedy backgrounds and improv backgrounds, and that first day that we worked together in the van was one of the funniest days of my life," Agee said. "When I first meet Tim, he's in the van, and James had told him, when we were rehearsing, to just keep touching me. ... John Economos, the character, does not like to be touched. He has a personal space that is well defined." "And so you can see it in my eyes that I'm just really struggling, and it was so funny, because I think Tim also knew that I thought that it was just creepy in general. And he's just rubbing my shoulders and it was so fun. It was hard to play a person who hated this guy because I've known him, and also he's so funny. But those scenes in the van were some of my favourite ones to shoot." Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. out for revenge Other new cast members include Frank Grillo, who plays Rick Flag Sr., new head of A.R.G.U.S., who has learned that Chris killed his son. "As a father of three sons, the fact that he has taken the life of my kid, my legacy, there's a lot, it's hard to think about anything else except revenge," Grillo said. "My objective is kind of simple, it is to destroy him." "Now I can't be just driven by one thing, otherwise that would be a little bit boring. So there's a lot of other stuff I have to deal with, because now I'm in a new position of a lot of responsibility. So it's kind of like dancing in a bunch of weddings at one time, and for an actor, I mean it's so much fun to do that." Working under Flag Sr. is Sol Rodriguez's character, A.R.G.U.S. agent Sasha Bordeaux. Rodriguez gushed about her experience filming the show, but also admitted that it was an "intimidating" project. "It was very intimidating because she's a tough character and in real life I'm very different," Rodriguez said. "And then also, they're all men. Steve is [six-foot-seven], I'm [five-foot-two], so he towers over me. So me giving him directions and telling him what to do, I was like, how do I make this grown man listen to me and want to do what I tell them to do?" "So it took me a little bit, but I think I got the rhythm of it throughout the season. But at the beginning I was very scared, because I also admire them so much." 'Peacemaker' cast reacts to new intro sequence But while Peacemaker has so many devoted fans, a key highlight is the intro sequence, with Season 1 largely regarded as having one of the best intros in TV history. It has changed for Season 2, but it's still a highlight of the show. "I didn't actually think I was going be part of it," Rodriguez said. "It was the best two days of my life. ... I love dancing, and having the whole cast together is a dream for me." "It was the toughest two days of my life," Agee added. "I'm huge and out of shape. I'm a terrible dancer. It was very trying on my spirit." Brooks said filming the intro sequence is fun, but stressed that it's "always hard." "It's just different. It's foreign in our bodies, like the movements aren't movements that I normally would make when I dance, but it's fun," she said. "We had each other. We figured it out together. It's fun watching everyone try too, because we're such individuals." "It was not easy and everyone had to really rehearse, both together and on their own, and come back," Grillo said in a separate interview. "It was probably my most fun experience, and if you had asked me before I'd say, no, I don't want to do this, but I'm so glad that I got to be a part of that." The 'genius' of James Gunn Unanimously across the Peacemaker cast it's agreed upon that working on a project led by James Gunn feels unique and special. As much as they resonate with audiences, they impact the cast as well. "I think he puts a lot of heart into his projects," Rodriguez said. "You guys saw Superman, it's such a sweet movie, so much humanity, every single character in that movie is so rich." "So I think that he puts so much love in every character that he creates that it's a pleasure to bring them to life, as any actor could tell you." "The action stuff, the stunts, the visual effects are amazing on the show, but I don't think it would carry as much weight if the characters weren't as developed," Agee added. "James really cares more about relationships and characters, and creating well-rounded characters. And by well-rounded I don't mean just good characters, I mean flawed characters, broken characters." "You're really benefiting from working with a director who wrote the material, because [he has] a very specific vision in mind, and so there's no guessing whether we got the shot or not. He knows because in his head, months ago, he's already edited this thing, so he knows the exact shots. It's a blessing to get to work with James." Brooks called Gunn a "genius" and a "true decision maker" in his approach to the show. "I think James, first of all, is a genius. ... He knows what he wants throughout the entirety of it, from the clothing to the lighting to the words, every aspect. He is locked in and is a true decision maker," she said. "I feel like he's taught me a lot about the discipline, and the level of discipline that he wants and requires. So for me, I think he's made me a better actor because of that. I already had a really high level of professionalism, but I feel like watching him work has just added and increased that level for me." Brooks added that he's also someone who works with actor to find what's best in each moment, including throwing out prompts for improv on set. 'He sets the tone' Similarly, Cena's Peacemaker costars praised the show's star for being a great leader and number one on the call sheet for the show. "He's so hard working. He's on set on the dot," Stroma said. "There's one shot where it was just a reaction shot ... off camera and everyone could go, and John just sat there and was my eye line. ... He's got 10,000 other things he needs to be doing, but he just sat there and he's like, 'No, I got you.'" "You don't always get that necessarily with number ones, but it trickles down from him. That's why, honestly, it's the funnest set. He sets the tone." "I'm very grateful to have bonded with him the way we have this season," Brooks added. "I think it was really challenging Season 1, because we were in COVID and wearing masks and really having to social distance when we weren't shooting. So we didn't get to really feel what it would be like for him to as the number one, even though he was number one. Then now we really got to feel the effect of his leadership this season." "We had a lot of car scenes together, so that meant hours just sitting in a car with each other. But what I appreciated was he never really rushed to get out of that car to disconnect with me, but rather, we stayed in that car to connect with one another, and in turn, I think that's helped our characters, really, with their bond that they naturally have." With Gunn's brilliant vision for Peacemaker, aligned with an absolutely impressive and captivating cast, it's a phenomenal match to make a great show.

This Conjuring entry is an HBO Max movie you should watch this weekend (August 22-24)
America loves true crime. The proof? The Serial Killer's Apprentice, an Investigation Discovery documentary, is the No. 1 movie on HBO Max over titles like Final Destination Bloodlines and Sinners. If those three movies are your jam, go ahead and watch. If not, we listed three underrated movies on HBO Max below. One is an A24 adventure movie that the entire family might love. Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, and the best movies on HBO Max. The Legend of Ochi (2025) A24 is the studio known for its dramas, thrillers, and horrors. So when filmmaker Isaiah Saxon makes a family movie for the studio, it immediately stands out. On the breathtaking island of Carpathia lives Yuri (Helena Zengel), the young daughter of Maxim (an always-game Willem Dafoe). Yuri never goes outside alone at night for fear of Ochi, a colorful creature that emits high-pitched sounds. Instead, Yuri and her family hunt Ochi. One day, Yuri finds a baby Ochi stuck in a leg trap and decides to let it go. Inspired by this interaction, Yuri is determined to return the injured Ochi to its family. Saxon creates a technicolor dream that feels like an '80s adventure movie in all the best ways. Stream The Legend of Ochi on HBO Max. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) Edgar Wright is the perfect director to helm a comic book or video game movie. Wright's movies are full of snappy dialogue, breakneck pacing, witty humor, and eccentric characters. Again, Wright is an ideal candidate for a movie like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), a bassist in an indie garage band, meets Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and is smitten immediately. Unfortunately for Scott, Ramona's ex-boyfriends are still in love with her. To win Ramona's heart, Scott will need to defeat her ex-boyfriends, including Lucas Lee (Chris Evans), Todd Ingram (Brandon Routh), and Matthew Patel (Satya Bhabha). Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is so fun and vibrant that it makes me wish Wright had made his version of Ant-Man. Stream Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on HBO Max. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) The Conjuring franchise (allegedly) comes to an end next month with The Conjuring: Last Rites. Everyone knows that if Last Rites becomes a financial hit, there will be more Conjuring movies. Let's say it is the last one, and you want to rewatch the three previous films before Last Rites hits theaters in September. Conjuring 3, aka The Devil Made Me Do It, is the obvious answer for the weakest of the three. However, the opening scene in Conjuring 3 ranks among the scariest in the franchise. As for the rest of the movie, paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) are thrust into a case where a suspect accused of murder claims demonic possession forced him to do it. Prepare yourself for some truly horrifying scenes in the best way possible. Stream The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It on HBO Max.

Crowd all in white flocks to Montrose Harbor for Le Dîner en Blanc
The social event of the season took place along Chicago's north lakefront Thursday night. Le Dîner en Blanc returned to Chicago with the theme "Blooming Elegance." The annual pop-up picnic is held at a secret location each year. This time, it was at Montrose Harbor. A total of 3,000 people were expected. At Le Dîner en Blanc, guests wear all white as they bring their chairs, tables, tablecloths, china, silverware, and food for a massive picnic. People are often seated with strangers to make new friends and meet new people. "This event really is about bringing everyone from across the city together," said director and cohost Lauren Haras. "What we've loved about our event here in Chicago as that we have always represented every section of the city. It's not just North Side, South Side, East Side, West Side. It is the entire city coming together to just celebrate friendship and community and enjoy a beautiful public space in the city." Why does everyone wear white? Haras said it all has to do with the origins of Le Dîner en Blanc in Paris in 1988. François Pasquier and his family had been living in Tahiti from a few years, and wanted a place to celebrate with friends when they moved back to Paris. "They wanted to meet new friends, because they hadn't lived there in a long time, so they asked their friends to have a picnic in their backyard," Haras said. But it turned out the backyard was too small, so they had the picnic in le Bois de Boulogne, the massive park in Paris' 16th arrondissement. "It got bigger, because they wanted to make new friends, so every event they have every year, they would have their friends bring one new friend," Haras said, "and that's the whole premise of this event is you come to the event, and you sponsor another person to come." They had everyone wear white because it had been years and the Pasquiers weren't sure everyone would recognize each other, but everyone would know they were in the right place if they were wearing a color that stood out. Le Dîner En Blanc is now held in more than 80 cities worldwide. The event first came to Chicago in 2012 and has been hosted at locations like Daley Plaza, the Lincoln Park Zoo, Merchandise Mart Plaza, and along Chicago's lakefront. CBS News New York has sometimes put a reporter on New York City Dîner en Blanc events for its 11 p.m. news over the years — as it has moved from the Lincoln Center Lawn to Governors Island to Battery Park. In Philadelphia, Le Dîner en Blanc made history for a wedding proposal in 2017. The first Dîner en Blanc in Milwaukee is coming up this Aug. 30.
