Britain's most prolific shoplifter has been convicted for the 180th time after stealing a haul of Cadbury's creme eggs.
Tanya Liddle, 44, is back behind bars after being charged with stealing £1,300 worth of goods from six shops across 72 hours in Newcastle.
She has been arrested more than 400 times, and her latest shoplifting spree came after she was released from prison again.
This is despite being banned from nearly all shops in the Northumbria Police area, which she gets around by wearing a range of disguises including hats and wigs.
One store manager told MailOnline: 'We've been plagued by Tanya for many years now.
'When she's out of prison she tends to try her luck at our shop on almost a daily basis.'
She is accused of grabbing £129.21 of detergent and dog food from a Spar shop on April 12.
The next day – Easter Sunday – she has been charged with stealing – or attempting to steal – from four stores including creme eggs, chocolate, coffee, meat and dairy products worth more than £200.
Later that day she is accused of hitting a service station where she stole biscuits and confectionary worth £299.
She is also charged with raiding a Co-op store for more chocolate and dairy worth £80.
And the following day, Easter Monday, she targeted a Morrisons petrol station and attempted to steal razor blades and laundry products.
She has since been remanded into custody.
Shop staff have said they knew banning her from stores would not work, and she often turns up in bizarre disguises.
A manager of a local supermarket said Liddle tries to steal from them most days. More Trending
They said: 'Whilst we stop her on most of these occasions, we estimate that she's stolen thousands from us.
'She was in only a couple of months ago and tried walking past me with bags for life full of products. Like many others we are baffled that she isn't serving major prison time.
'She isn't fazed by being arrested for a few weeks here and there, and we'll be amazed if this ban actually works.
'It's no wonder we have to deal with shoplifters on a regular basis given even the likes of Tanya aren't properly punished.'

Bungling ram raider used shopping basket to make off with loot after bag broke

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video CCTV footage reveals the moment a bungling thief was forced to use a shopping basket to make off with his loot during a ram-raid. Kayne Palmer, 33, plundered an off-licence in Nottingham after reversing a stolen van into it during a two-week burglary spree between October and November 2023. He had found the keys to the van after breaking into a nearby house, where he also stole a handbag and a bank card. The shop's owners, who were asleep upstairs during the early-morning raid, were jolted awake by the sound of the storefront being smashed open. Meanwhile, Palmer was busy stuffing nearly £8,000 worth of cigarettes and bottles of booze into a bag, unaware it had a hole in the bottom. After realising many of the cigarette packets had fallen out, he can be seen in the footage frantically scooping them into one of the wire baskets provided for customers. He then loaded the store's till, containing £3,239 in cash, into the van before driving off. The owners called police but by the time they arrived Palmer had gone, leaving behind only thousands of pounds' worth of damage. During the getaway, Palmer 'crashed into street furniture, people's property, and narrowly missed pedestrians, showing a blatant disregard for the safety of members of the public', detectives said. He remained at large for another 17 days, after which he carried out five burglaries and one attempted burglary in the space of 24 hours. The 33-year-old was caught when officers spotted him hopping over fences after breaking into a house. More Trending He was jailed on Friday for seven years after pleading guilty to admitted eight burglaries and aggravated vehicle taking. He also admitted multiple counts of dangerous driving, attempted burglary, conspiring to steal motor vehicles, assault, theft, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. Detective Inspector Julian Eminson-Ferry of Nottinghamshire Police said: 'He didn't hide his offending and openly showed his face during the burglaries he committed. 'This showed his desperation and flippancy about the offences he carried out, regardless of the detrimental impact on his victims.' Violence spirals out of control across LA after Trump says 'bring in the troops'

Los Angeles has been rocked by violent protests, with Donald Trump calling for soldiers to bring the city under control. Rioters blocked off a major road and set self-driving cars on fire as police used tear gas, rubber bullets and flash bangs to control the crowd. British photographer Nick Stern, 60, from Hertford, was among those shot: he had his thigh pierced by a rubber bullet while taking pictures on Saturday evening, and told Metro how he passed out from the pain and needed surgery. The unrest was sparked by sweeping immigration raids, part of the pledge by the president to arrest some 3,000 suspected illegal migrants every day. Thousands of protesters took to the streets in response to Trump's deployment of the National Guard, against the wishes of California's state governor. The situation calmed down somewhat by yesterday evening, with police declaring an unlawful assembly, which means they can arrest those who do not leave. Some of those remaining hurled objects at police from behind a makeshift barricade, and others threw chunks of concrete, rocks, electric scooters and fireworks at California Highway Patrol officers and their vehicles parked on the closed southbound 101 freeway. Officers ran under an overpass to take cover. The protests in LA, a sprawling city of four million people, were centred in downtown several blocks. The Guard was deployed specifically to protect federal buildings, including the detention centre where protesters concentrated. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said officers were 'overwhelmed' by the remaining protesters. He said they included regular agitators who appear at demonstrations to cause trouble. Several dozen people were arrested throughout the weekend of protest. One was detained on Sunday for throwing a Molotov cocktail at police, and another for ramming a motorcycle into a line of officers. Mr Trump responded to Mr McDonnell on Truth Social, telling him to arrest protesters in face masks. 'Looking really bad in L.A. BRING IN THE TROOPS!!! he wrote. Starting in the morning, the troops stood shoulder to shoulder, carrying long guns and riot shields as protesters shouted 'shame' and 'go home'. After some closely approached the guard members, another set of uniformed officers advanced on the group, shooting smoke-filled canisters into the street. Minutes later, the Los Angeles Police Department fired rounds of crowd-control munitions to disperse the protesters, who they said were assembled unlawfully. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Much of the group then moved to block traffic on the 101 freeway until state patrol officers cleared them from the roadway by late afternoon. Nearby, at least four self-driving Waymo cars were set on fire, sending large plumes of black smoke into the sky and exploding intermittently as the electric vehicles burned. By evening, police had issued an unlawful assembly order shutting down several blocks of downtown Los Angeles. Flash bangs echoed out every few seconds into the evening. Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom requested that Mr Trump remove the guard members in a letter on Sunday afternoon, calling their deployment a 'serious breach of state sovereignty'. He was in Los Angeles meeting local law enforcement and officials. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page. Owner of 'pocket bully' which mauled boy, five, blames child for attack

A five-year-old boy who was left in hospital after being attacked by a 'pocket bully' has been told it was his fault. Four-year-old Antonio Quinn needed a three-hour operation to have his face stitched back together after the vicious attack left him covered in blood. But the dog's owner has now blamed the child for the incident, while insisting his 'teddy bear' pet, named Harry, was just defending his home. Antonio's mother Amanda Holmes, 34, said her son was lucky to be alive, but dog owner Aaron Eccles said the child shouldn't have come into his home and that the attack was a 'genuine mistake'. Mr Eccles said that dogs don't differentiate between an adult and child when responding to who they think is a burglar, adding that Harry had even given Antonio a 'warning bite'. Harry was later seized along with a Staffordshire bull terrier by 20 officers who arrived at the property in Oswaldthwistle, Lancashire. Mr Eccles accused police of antagonising his dog by using pepper spray on him, MailOnline reports. The dog owner said he declined an offer from officers to have his pets euthanised and was now awaiting the results of an assessment which will determine whether they are safe to be returned home. Antonio was reportedly playing outside with Mr Eccles' partner's son and was going in to get a drink when he was attacked by the dog. He was wounded on the chin, cheeks and thigh before a neighbour's intervention stopped the incident from further escalating. The child was then hurried to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for treatment. Ms Holmes said the scene was 'like something out of a horror film', but that, despite enduring a lot of pain, Antonio was doing well. A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: 'We were called at shortly after 1.30pm on May 26 following reports that a child had been bitten by a dog on Thwaites Road, Oswaldtwistle. 'The child, a four-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with injuries to his leg and face. Thankfully, those injuries are not life threatening. 'Two dogs have been seized by police – a Staffordshire Bull Terrier type and a Pocket Bully Type and the dog owner has been identified and will be spoken to in due course. More Trending 'We know this may be concerning to hear about, but we want to reassure you that enquiries are ongoing into the incident, and we are asking for your help to assist those enquiries. 'We are particularly interested in viewing any CCTV footage of the area that may have captured the incident.' Anyone with footage or information should call 101 quoting log 0603 of May 26.
