Footage shows terrifying meat cleaver attack in Scots shop before till raided

The male wearing a black balaclava is seen wielding a "meat cleaver" in the horror footage.
A terrifying video has shown the moment a masked ' robber ' brandishes what appears to be "a meat cleaver" at a shop worker before he "raids the store till".
At 8.15pm on Thursday June 26, the incident unfolded at Armadale's Premier Lower Bathville store.

In the clip shared with Edinburgh Live, a male with his face covered by a black balaclava and wearing a grey and black tracksuit top, with grey joggers and grey Adidas trainers, can be seen entering the store with what appears to be 'a blade.'

The petrified shop worker looks to be threatened before he is forced to open the till for the alleged armed robber.
The male appears to take bank notes from the till before exiting the store and leaving the area.
The brave shop worker calmly stands at the side of the alleged robber before moving in the direction of the shop entrance.
In a statement on their Facebook, Premier said: "There was a robbery at the shop at 8:15pm, if anyone know anything about this guy please let us know."
Police Scotland has been approached for comment.

On Tuesday, in a separate incident, we reported that a restaurant supervisor hit out after a balaclava-clad gang attempted to steal her bike while she was working.
Footage captured by a diner at Le Petit Beefbar on George Street in Edinburgh showed a group of three thieves attempting to take the bike on Thursday.

Anna Mykhailova, 22, says the group used 'large rocks' in an attempt to smash off the lock before diners and colleagues at the restaurant 'teamed up' against the trio in broad daylight.
Anna said she was "relieved" her bike was not taken but says if the group hadn't acted fast "it could have been gone in minutes".
She said: "My colleagues told me not to freak out but when I found out what happened, my face completely changed - I thought it was a joke at first.

"There was three guys trying to steal my bike but a customer was screaming at them and trying to get them off
"Another bartender screamed at them too and told them to leave. Luckily, the bike lock did it's job because they had a rock with them and started smashing it but they couldn't get it off.

" The police were there within five minutes. The group was three males in balaclavas and all of them were on the same moped."
Anna said she paid a lot of money for the bike after saving up for over a year and it is her main commute to work.
She added: "It was a relief when everything was fine in the end but it could have been gone in two minutes.

"I had only had the bike for one year and I saved money for a while to get this specific one because I was involved in an accident last year.
"If I didn't have the bike, I don't know what I would do - I would be so devastated if it was taken."
Officers confirmed the incident was reported to them and said their enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.20pm on Thursday, June 19, we received a report of the attempted theft of a motorbike on George Street in Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing."

'Beautiful' mum hacked to death by sick ex before his chilling admission

"When asked about what had happened, the offender stated, 'I can't remember anything about it'. He then placed his hands over his face and began crying." A man arrested for murdering the girlfriend he "loved" told a nurse of how he "hacked" her to death, a court heard. Corey Dryden, 31, made the admission during a mental health assessment following the death of his partner Megan Hughes on February 7, 2025. The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Dryden stabbed the mother of two 27 times during an assault at their home in Windram Road, Chirnside, in Berwickshire. ‌ The court heard how police arrested him soon after the deadly assault and took him into custody. Prosecutor Tracey Brown told judge Lord Harrower that Dryden told police officers that he couldn't remember what he had done to his loved one. ‌ The court also heard how he started weeping during the police interview. He also told detectives: 'I did really love her you know'. Ms Brown told the court that officers had Dryden assessed by mental health professionals whilst he was in detention. She added: "During a mental health assessment which was being carried out by a nurse, the offender was asked how he would manage if he was released. He was asked how he would access services if he was released on bail. "The offender replied, 'with all due respect I'm not getting released' and also said "that's unlikely cause I'm going to plead guilty 'cos I hacked my girlfriend to death'." The story emerged on Friday morning after Dryden, also of Chirnside, pleaded guilty to murdering Ms Hughes by repeatedly striking her on the head and body with a knife. The charge also contained details of how Dryden also repeatedly struck his partner on the head and body with a hammer "or a similar object" during the attack. ‌ Ms Brown told the court that the pair had got together in February 2024 - they had known each other since childhood. Ms Hughes, who was also 31, had two children from a previous relationship and they started living with each other in July 2024. The court heard how Dryden was fined £300 in December 2024 at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on a charge of threatening and abusive behaviour. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! On the day before Dryden murdered his partner, he sent text messages to friends and loved ones. Ms Brown told the court that these messages showed that Dryden was "struggling to manage his emotions within the context of the relationship." The court heard that a text sent to a friend read: "I'm gonna do time wish I was single." Another read: "Tryin' not to go mental speak soon bro'." ‌ Ms Brown said that at approximately 2.15am on February 9, 2025, a neighbour of the couple's was awoken by loud banging coming from their home. Ms Brown added: "The neighbour then heard the deceased repeatedly shout, 'please help me'. She also heard the deceased scream, and the accused say, 'shut up'. The neighbour was about to call 999 but things then quietened down." The court heard that just after 4.30am, Dryden phoned 999. The offender spoke to a police officer during the call and said that his partner had stabbed herself after she had attacked him with a hammer. ‌ Ms Brown added: "He said that he had defended himself but had then blacked out. He said that the attack had occurred about an hour and a half before. "He requested that an ambulance attend but informed the police officer that the deceased was dead. He sounded under the influence with slurred speech." ‌ Police then turned up at their home. Officers who responded found Ms Hughes lying on the floor of an upstairs bedroom. She had a large kitchen knife in her right hand which was raised above her head. The court heard how officers started doing CPR but paramedics later pronounced her dead. He was later taken to St Leonard's police station in Edinburgh and was interviewed by police. Ms Brown told the court: "During the interview, the offender spoke freely throughout. He stated that in the past three months, the offender and the deceased's relationship had not been good. He explained that she hated him, and that they argued every day. ‌ "He said that on the night of the murder they had each drunk approximately a bottle and a half of wine. The offender said that was taking pain killers for his leg and that he had also recently had valium that had not been prescribed by a doctor. " The offender stated that they had been within the bedroom and that the deceased had been wearing a bra and pants. He explained that they had argued when he had called her a 'lazy s**t'. ‌ "He claimed that she had swung a hammer at him, which he had blocked with his crutch; that he had disarmed the deceased of the hammer and had struck her on the head with it. "The offender said that he did not know how many times he had struck the deceased with the hammer." Ms Brown also said he made other admissions during the interview. She added: "He admitted that he had then stabbed her with a twelve-inch silver kitchen knife and that he had killed her. He claimed that he had 'blanked out' for an unknown period of time. ‌ "When asked about what had happened, the offender stated, 'I can't remember anything about it'. He then placed his hands over his face and began crying. He then stated, 'it was like I was possessed'. "When asked if he remembered anything else the accused Dryden paused and stated 'well I wish I never started drinking '. He then stated, 'I did really love her you know' and then began crying again." ‌ The court heard that pathologists carried out a post mortem on Ms Hughes's body on February 10, 2025. Ms Brown said the cause of the victim's death was recorded as being stab wounds to the chest and neck. The advocate depute added: "The combination of the injuries sustained by the lungs, pulmonary vasculature and left jugular vein, and the associated significant blood loss, would have resulted in cardiovascular and respiratory compromise, ultimately leading to cardiac arrest and death." Meanwhile, forensic scientists found DNA from the deceased on the top of the blade taken by the police from the scene. Defence advocate Lili Prais KC said she'd reserve her mitigation until after the court had obtained a report on her client's background. Lord Harrower deferred sentence to obtain a background report. He told Dryden: "You will be remanded in custody."

Bus driver spared jail after he ran over pensioner had curfew lifted to take son to Legoland

Norman Hamilton avoided a prison sentence for seriously injuring Andrew Milton last March. A bus driver who was spared jail after he ran over a pensioner had his curfew lifted so he can take his son to Legoland. Norman Hamilton, 58, failed to stop for a red light and hit Andrew Milton, 77. The bus motored over his legs and left him bleeding heavily on the ground in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. ‌ Dad-of-two Hamilton appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving. ‌ Sheriff Colin Dunipace ordered him to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work, banned him from driving for five years and put him on a tag for a year. But he returned to court in a bid to have the order varied and go on holiday with his pharmacist wife and five-year-old son to Legoland and Chessington World of Adventures. Sheriff Dunipace agreed with 'some hesitation' and said he did not want to deny the youngster the trip that had been booked in February. Ronnie Simpson, defending, said: "There is a motion to vary this order for a family holiday. "This was booked in February when there was still a chance it would be a trial and negotiations were still ongoing with the Crown and this holiday was booked while discussions were ongoing, it was not done with any disrespect to the court. ‌ "The outlay for the holiday has been fairly significant for the family. It is within the UK and only for seven days and they are going to Legoland and Chessington World of Adventures. "I cannot see any prejudice in allowing the holiday to proceed." Sheriff Dunipace said: "I'm slightly surprised by this given I was considering a custodial sentence in this matter. ‌ "He was aware that these proceedings were in the offing and that the court would be looking at a custodial sentence so I just wonder why someone would book a holiday knowing that a custodial sentence may be imposed. "There is a punitive element which has to be considered but with some hesitation and on the basis that it is also his son's holiday then I will allow the variation, I don't want to stop his son going on holiday." The court previously heard Mr Milton was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where medics told him he had suffered 'life-altering' injuries. He was kept in for two months for a number of surgeries on his legs including skin grafts. Hamilton lost his job after the incident of March last year and vowed never to drive a bus again.

Dad 'numb and helpless' as search for missing teen son continues near river

Mylo Capilla, 13, disappeared after playing with a friend - his black Carrera bike, black jacket and iPhone were found in an area where he was last spotted. The dad of missing schoolboy Mylo Capilla has said he feels "numb" and "helpless" as a large-scale hunt for his son continues. Dan Capilla was alerted to the youngster's disappearance shortly after 9pm on Thursday, June 26, after Mylo's mum raised the alarm. The 13-year-old was last seen after playing out with a friend, and his black Carrera bike, black jacket and iPhone were found in an area of the grassland where he was last spotted. ‌ Dan, 43, told Teesside Live: "I feel numb, I feel helpess," he told Teesside Live. "I've just been walking around again there searching - I just don't know what to do." ‌ The design engineer, who grew up in Stockton and attended Grangefield School, said he last saw Mylo at 4pm on Thursday when he called into his dad's Ingleby home with his pal just to say hello. Dan said: "He just called in to say hi with his friend while they were playing out. He gave me a big hug and said 'love you' and was playing with the dog. Then he left." It was five hours later that Dan got the call that Mylo, who has lived in Ingleby all of this life, was missing. He said: "I was completely shocked. I just kept, and keep, tearing up." All Saints Academy pupil Mylo had last been seen in an area known locally as The Muddies - which is in between Ramsey Gardens, in Ingleby Barwick, and the River Tees. A full-scale emergency services operation descended on Ramsey Gardens, in Ingleby Barwick, with teams from Cleveland Police, Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team, Cleveland Fire Brigade and the Water Rescue Unit. ‌ North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) paramedics also swarmed the street. Police dogs were also released onto the Muddies, the police helicopter and drones were flying above and Dan says even the RAF were called out. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Dan, who lives in Buckland Close with his finance manager partner Kat Urban, 39, said: "I didn't sleep at all last night and we were just out searching, driving around in the car, taking turns because we wanted someone in the house in case he came back. ‌ "The emergency services have been amazing, and the response from members of the public, with the amount of people searching is unbelieveable. The streets were full of people. We thank you, and appreciate you so much." Dan has been told by police that the search continued into the early hours of the morning, with a refreshed focus from 7am in daylight. "They said they'll contact me and family when there's any news," he said. Dan urged people who may have seen Mylo to get in touch with the force. He said: "Mylo is just a really loving, caring boy. He's always happy and wants to make people laugh. He would never just go missing or hide - this is completely out of character."
