Wife's Affair Led To Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder, Boyfriend Involved: Cops
As the mystery deepens over the murder of an Indore man during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, the police now claim that the victim's wife had an extramarital affair that allegedly drove her to hire contract killers to eliminate her husband.
Raja Raghuvanshi, 29, and his newly married wife Sonam, 24, had gone missing on May 23. A week later, Raja's body was found in a gorge. A search was conducted for Sonam, who eventually turned up at her hometown a week later.
Meghalaya cops believe she was in an extramarital affair that led to Raja's murder. She orchestrated the murder in connivance with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, and surrendered under pressure on June 8, according to them. Both were later arrested.
Not much is known about Raj Kushwaha from official channels, but the victim's family has broken its silence on this person.
Raj was Sonam's employee, and they would speak on the phone a lot, claimed Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja Raghuvanshi's brother. "I've never seen Raj Kushwaha; I have just heard his name. Sonam can be involved in this," he told ANI.
The couple had initially planned to visit the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, he claimed, raising doubts over the sudden change in plan that landed them in neighbouring Meghalaya. "We don't know which of the two planned their visit to Meghalaya. They did not book any return tickets," he added.
Sonam being alive has also raised suspicion among the family members of Raja Raghuvanshi. Sachin, another brother of the victim, asked, "Sonam being found alive raises questions. Who were the other people who killed Raja?"
Raja and Sonam got married on May 11. They left for their honeymoon on May 20. A day later, the couple were in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, nestled in the lap of lush peaks. On May 23, they went missing and their scooty was found abandoned nearby.
The husband's body was found on June 2 with evidence that he was hacked to death with a machete. Sonam, however, remained untraceable until June 8. Last night, she reached Ghazipur, her hometown, and contacted her brother. She was swooped away by the cops minutes later, according to multiple accounts by the UP Police and her family.
Uttar Pradesh police claimed they found Sonam distraught and unwell at a dhaba in Nandganj, while Meghalaya cops asserted she "voluntarily surrendered" at the police station. Three others, including two from Indore and one from Lalipur in Uttar Pradesh," said Meghalaya police.
The difference in police versions is also reflected in the statements of the two families.
Sonam's family came out in her support and outright denied that she could murder her husband.
"She cannot do this. They got married with the consent of both families. My daughter came to a dhaba in Ghazipur last night and called her brother. Police went to the dhaba and she was taken from there," said Devi Singh, Sonam's father.

'Ye bilkul hi jhutha aarop hai..': Manish Gupta denies all allegations agaisnt him for allegedly stabbing driver
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 9 (ANI): Director Manish Gupta, who has been booked by Versova police for allegedly attacking his driver, has denied all the allegations and said that these are all "false accusations". Speaking to ANI, he said, "Ye bilkul hi jhutha aarop hai (This is a false accusation)... a hundred per cent false accusation. There was no fight between that driver and me, Rajebul Lashkar. Usne police mein jaaake jhuthi statement di hai (He went to the police and gave a false statement). And on that basis, he filed an FIR. He did this to put my reputation at risk. So that I come under pressure and he can extort more money from me." He also opened up on the accusation that he has not paid salary to his driver timely, "This accusation is 100% false. I will show you my bank statement for the past 3 years. You will see that every month I have paid him his entire salary on time. So, the first sentence in the FIR is false that I never paid him salary on time, that's why he fought with me. His first sentence is false. The first false sentence in his statement, in the FIR, is the proof that his entire allegation is false. It is proof that he is lying. You can see my bank statement. ...There is a detail of his salary every month for the past 3 years." Gupta also shared that he has given his driver regular salary so there was no argument or fight between them, "As I said, he has received his salary on time every month for the past 3 years. You can see my bank statement. The driver's name, amount, and date are clearly shown in this. He has received his salary on time every month for the past 3 years. On top of that, he has been given an advance. I have given him more advance than salary many times. The person who has given him a salary on time every month for the past 3 years, he(driver) has given a statement to file an FIR that he has never paid his salary on time. That's why he has fought with me. This is a complete lie. When this man starts his statement with a false sentence, you can understand that the whole statement is a lie. He has a malafide intention. Uska motive hai paise is an extortion racket and nothing else. So he made this salary just a topic. He wanted to make a topic and show that there was a fight. That's why he has raised this issue of salary. " The director also shared that he has been contributing to the police investigation. "I have submitted my statement to the police. I will show you a copy of the statement. I have given a statement. They stamped it, signed it and gave me an acknowledgement. And in the statement, I said everything... I told them that this man has given you a false statement. And on the basis of a false statement, he has filed an FIR. That is, it is 100% a lie." "There will be no compromise at all. The trend of extortion racket is very dangerous for our country, and especially for Bollywood personalities. Because we are a soft target, we have to stop these we are taking legal action. And we are initiating criminal proceedings against this I want to add that he has a criminal background..," he added. Gupta has been booked under sections 118(2), 115(2) and 352 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. (ANI)

Over the last couple of weeks, the case had captured national headlines, with police launching an extensive search operation to find the missing woman. Here's what we know When a rejected local guide became a key witness On the day Sonam and Raja went missing, the couple was trekking through a forested trail, reportedly on their way to Meghalaya's famed double-decker living root bridges in Sohra. On their way, Albert Pde, a local guide in the Nongriat village, had offered his services to newlyweds. The couple declined, choosing another guide. However, what was odd was that Pde saw them again the next day—this time, accompanied by three unknown men, climbing the 3,000 steps back to Mawlakhiat. The search for Sonam Raghuvanshi continues, nearly two weeks after she and her husband went missing in Meghalaya. Image: News18 'I saw the couple with three men on the way up. In the recording, accessed by India Today, Sonam was heard interacting with her mother-in-law. Sonam describes the tough terrain they were navigating. 'We're in a dense forest, nothing is available here. The climb is steep. I had told him (Raja) not to go, but he never listens. I'm exhausted. The food here isn't good either. It's hard to breathe while walking,' she says in the clip. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD That phone call turned out to be the last time anyone heard from them.
