Rajinikanth has been working on one of the most highly anticipated films, Jailer 2. The shooting has been going on in full swing. Finally, the actor has given fans an update on the much-anticipated Jailer 2, confirming that the film's shoot may wrap up by the end of this year. Rajinikanth reprise his role as 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian.
Times Now mentioned that when asked by the press about Jailer 2's shoot and post-production, Rajinikanth said, 'I am not sure when exactly we will complete shooting for Jailer 2. But the shoot will mostly be done by December." He also added that the post-production work for Coolie is going on well.
Recently, reports of director Nelson Dilipkumar's meeting with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal surfaced. This meeting sparked speculation about Mohanlal reprising his role as Mathew in the Rajinikanth-led action drama. Nothing has been made official till now. India Today has reported that director Nelson Dilipkumar met Mohanlal on the sets of his upcoming film, 'Hridayapoorvam', in Kerala. The two had a discussion about the actor's role in Rajinikanth's upcoming film, 'Jailer 2', which is currently in production. Nandamuri Balakrishna is also officially a part of Jailer 2, and it's not just a blink-and-miss cameo either. The seasoned star is expected to play a pivotal role alongside Superstar Rajinikanth.
A source close to the film's unit told Hindustan Times that Balakrishna has nodded to collaborating with Rajinikanth in Jailer 2. 'It is true that NBK has said yes to a powerful role in Jailer 2. He loved what Nelson pitched to him and looks forward to shooting for the film soon. He plays more of a guest role in the film than a cameo because he wanted something solid, and Nelson delivered. Fans are going to love it," said the source.
Earlier this month, while promoting his latest Kannada film 45 in Hyderabad, Shiva was asked about Balakrishna's involvement in Jailer 2. He confirmed that Balakrishna has indeed been roped in for a key role in the highly anticipated sequel.
Jailer 2 is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action comedy film written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. It is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures. A sequel to Jailer (2023), the film stars Rajinikanth reprising his role as the titular character alongside Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa Menon reprising their roles, with S. J. Suryah joining the cast. Shiva Rajkumar also makes a guest appearance in this film.

Asha Negi opens up about challenging role in Criminal Justice 4, breaking her ‘girl-next-door' image with it

The gripping legal crime drama Criminal Justice has returned with its fourth season, once again featuring Pankaj Tripathi in his acclaimed role as lawyer Madhav Mishra. This time, the story revolves around a complex murder case within a troubled family, presenting three conflicting versions of the truth. Joining the cast are Zeeshan Ayyub, Surveen Chawla and Asha Negi, each playing pivotal roles in this intense and emotionally layered narrative. (Also Read: Asha Negi says she still gets 'so many gaalis from fans' for breakup with Rithvik Dhanjani) In an exclusive conversation with Hindustan Times, Asha Negi spoke about being a part of the hit franchise. She plays Roshni Saluja, Zeeshan's girlfriend, who is murdered. Asha opened up about her limited screen time in the series and why she chose to take on the role despite that. Asha revealed that it was the story and the nature of her character that drew her in, 'because for the longest time people have seen me play the girl next door and those kind of roles. And I really want to experiment and do something different. When this show came to me, we all know it's a great show, the character, even though the screen time is less, it has so much to do. It has a lot of layers, and it was very challenging to play this.' A post shared by Asha Negi (@ashanegi) She described the most demanding aspects of bringing Roshni to life and said, 'Most of the days were quite challenging because when you're working opposite actors like Zeeshan Ayub. I had so many scenes with him and he's such a fantastic actor. So when you have scenes with somebody like him, you have to buckle up and bring your A-game, right? You can't just do anything and get away with it. So most of the days were quite challenging and most of the scenes that I did were challenging, which is amazing because it also helps you push as an actor and helps you learn and grow so much.' Asha admitted she had initial doubts about accepting the role, 'I was sceptical that my character dies eventually, toh kya hi hoga iska (what will happen to her) but then I was told to read the screenplay and character brief and I was like maybe yeah, screen-time is less but there are times when the character is very impactful. So it's one of the most beautifully written characters. It was also so challenging, I felt like I didn't know if I'd be able to do this or not, it seems difficult to me. But whatever I had, I gave it my all.' She also shared that nervousness is a part of every project she does and added, 'I am always nervous before starting a project. I get sleepless nights when I am about to start a new project. So, even this time, I was nervous. But it was so fun, you also see your growth and how much you learnt.' Criminal Justice 4: A Family Matter premiered on JioHotstar on May 29. However, only three episodes have been released so far, leaving many fans disappointed. Directed by Rohan Sippy and produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India, new episodes of the show will drop every Thursday.

Thudarum is further proof that Mohanlal is one of the best actors working today, still taking chances

It is barely 6 months into 2025, and Mohanlal has already delivered two blockbusters in L2: Empuraan and Thudarum. The 65-year-old actor even made his directorial debut with Barroz- 3D, which released last year in Christmas, but unfortunately, that did not work. There's an unpredictability in the way the actor operates, taking chances, which brings varied results. If one thing is certain, it is what Mohanlal brings to the table as an actor. His latest release, Thudarum, is further proof that Mohanlal can elevate even a modest revenge drama to astonishing heights just by his mere presence. (Also read: Thudarum worldwide box office collection: Mohanlal film shows no sign of slowing down, crosses ₹100 cr mark in 6 days) That Thudarum has been compared to another Mohanlal-starrer Drishyam is not really a surprise. Both films have a rather similar narrative terrain, where an initial conflict gives rise to a nail-bitingly intense payoff. Both films also see Mohanlal harness a character who is seemingly ordinary in appearance, but is later proved to have extraordinary tenacity and intelligence. In Thudarum, Tharoon Murthy gifts Mohanlal with Shanmugham aka Benz, an affectionate man who works as a taxi driver. He lives a modest and peaceful life with his wife and two kids, obsessing over his black Ambassador Mark 1. The first half of the film patiently charts his daily routine and sets up the initial crisis, which arrives in the form of his car getting seized by the police. Then, the needle drops. It is a sudden, vehement shift of tone that rests entirely on Mohanlal's shoulders. It is a truth that arrives only to Benz, and through him to the viewer directly. We come to terms with the horror along with him. Mohanlal is utterly captivating in these scenes as the revelation sinks in bit by bit, and Benz is consumed by an uncontrollable sense of despair and rage. What can he do now? How can he even tell the truth to his family? What will happen next? Mohanlal, displaying no vanity whatsoever, gives a full-body performance in these moments. This is an actor who has mastered the art of playing the everyman figure, someone who wants to mind his own business until he is dragged into some unsavoury game. He will do anything for his family; it is the despair that has turned into rage. Drishyam had a similar instinct, but Thudarum takes it one step further. Here, Benz has a choice to surrender with the truth, but he chooses not to do so as he takes justice into his own hands and proceeds with his plan instead. From here on, Thudarum becomes shaky and persuasive, blindsiding the viewer every step of the way. It is no longer a family drama, it becomes a thriller. But what a showcase for Mohanlal it proves to be! The actor is so convincing as Benz in his rugged carelessness that the viewer is always by his side, even in his worst instincts. The action scenes are carefully choreographed (there are many), and Mohanlal brings a lot of earthiness to them- this is a middle-aged man after all, who is bound to feel exhausted and, in turn, receive a few punches too. We still want to see him get up and fight. Tharoon Murthy's film might be measured in its impact, but Mohanlal is working on a different register altogether- a masterful actor who is instinctively able to truly capture the emotional beats of a film. He elevates Thudarum just by his mere presence by the end. There's no one else who can channel the common man's woes (and contained rage) better than him on screen today. He makes Benz believable and frighteningly real. He might be the kindest, and yet you might not want to mess with him after all. It scares you a little.
