Delhi CM Gupta flags off Tiranga cyclothon for girls from Vidhan Sabha
Addressing the participants, Gupta said the true glory of the national flag will be realised when girls achieve complete freedom and that her government is committed to securing a better future for them.
The cyclothon, aimed at empowering women, was flagged off by CM Gupta along with Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood.
Meanwhile, the Union Culture Ministry's 'Har Ghar Tiranga Bike Rally', was flagged off by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, CM Gupta, and several Members of Parliament.
At the bike rally, CM Gupta said, "Have you seen before 2014, that a Prime Minister is leading people with Tiranga in his hands? Leaders left the Tiranga before Independence. Today, people who keep the copy of the Constitution in their pockets don't have Tiranga in their hands.'
'They are the same people who used to claim that they got the country independent but today the same people don't believe in the country's integrity,' she said.
The CM added that 'our lives depend on this Tiranga and the three colours represent the prosperity of the country'.
'Every Indian aspires that our Tiranga remains high and immortal. The sky echoes with the chants of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' as this Tiranga Yatra is being taken out," she said.
Everyone, right from the MPs to our brave soldiers, is expressing their patriotism. Even 78 years after Independence, our love for our country is continuously increasing with each passing year, the CM said. 'I thank PM Narendra Modi for taking this national festival to every household."
Sood urged citizens not to treat Independence Day as a long weekend.
"We should contribute in keeping our homes and locality clean," he said.
India will celebrate its 79th Independence Day on August 15.

Owaisi said that various municipal corporations across India, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), ordering the closure of slaughterhouses and meat shops on India's Independence Day is callous and unconstitutional. He questioned the logic behind the meat ban and celebrating Independence Day. On social media, Owaisi posted, 'Many municipal corporations across India seem to have ordered that slaughterhouses and meat shops should be closed on 15th August. Unfortunately, GHMC has also made a similar order. This is callous and unconstitutional.' He continued, 'What's the connection between eating meat and celebrating Independence Day? 99% of Telangana's people eat meat. These meat bans violate people's right to liberty, privacy, livelihood, culture, nutrition & religion.' The GHMC has issued orders for the closure of cattle slaughterhouses and retail beef shops on August 15 and August 16 on account of Independence Day and Janmashtami, respectively. The Municipal Corporation issued the order under section 533 (b) of the GHMC Act, 1955. The GHMC Commissioner sent the order to the Police Commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda. Asad Owaisi called on civic authorities to reconsider such decisions, highlighting the impact on the livelihoods of those dependent on the meat trade and emphasising the need to uphold personal freedoms and cultural diversity in the country.

Nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga' celebrations gaining momentum, says BJP
Hyderabad: Telangana BJP state unit, in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call, the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' program is being celebrated across India with patriotic fervor to mark the 79th Independence Day. The initiative, aimed at fostering national unity and pride, is being organized in a coordinated manner by the Government of India and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including extensive participation in Telangana. Addressing the media on Wednesday, party state vice-president Gangidi Manohar Reddy highlighted the scale and spirit of the celebrations. He noted that for the past three days, Tiranga rallies and flag-hoisting events have been held across the country, with enthusiastic participation from school and college students, youth, and citizens. 'The Prime Minister has called upon every Indian to hoist the national flag on their homes on August 14 and 15, symbolizing unity and patriotism,' Reddy said. He emphasized that the national flag evokes emotion and solidarity among all citizens, transcending caste, religion, region, and age. Referring to recent national security developments, Reddy praised the swift response of the Indian Army in Pahalgam, where terrorists were neutralized following an attack on civilians. He said the successful completion of Operation Sindhur has further galvanized public sentiment and strengthened patriotic resolve. In Telangana, the BJP has set a target of hoisting the national flag on 40 lakh homes. Reddy urged citizens to participate actively in the campaign and join the Tiranga Rally scheduled at Necklace Road on August 14 at 10 a.m. The rally will be led by BJP Telangana State President Ramchandra Rao, Legislative Council members AVN Reddy and Malka Komuraiah, along with party leaders, activists, students, and college representatives. 'We appeal to every citizen of the twin cities to take part in the rally and celebrate the spirit of Independence Day,' he said. BJP leaders Rani Rudrama and BJYM State President Sevella Mahender were present.

Govt to felicitate SSC & Inter toppers during I-Day celebrations
Hyderabad: As part of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, the State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, Telangana, Dr. E. Naveen Nicolas, has issued directives to all District Educational Officers (DEOs) to organize district-level events involving government school children. The initiative aims to foster a patriotic spirit and recognize academic excellence among students. The celebrations will feature cultural programs, NCC and Scouts drills, and the ceremonial felicitation of top-performing students from the SSC and Intermediate Examinations – 2025. Each district will identify two boys and two girls from SSC, and two boys and two girls from the Intermediate level, studying in government institutions under the Directorate of School Education (DSE). These eight students per district will be felicitated with a cash award of Rs 10,000 each, along with certificates issued by the Head Office. To support these activities, instructions were issued to to release Rs 36.30 lakh to the SNA accounts of 33 District Project Offices (DPOs). Each district will receive Rs 1.10 lakh — Rs 30,000 for organizing cultural programs and NCC/Scouts participation, and Rs 80,000 for student felicitation. The cultural segment will include patriotic songs, dances, and skits that reflect national pride and unity. NCC and Scouts cadets will present drills and parades as part of the ceremonial proceedings. The funds allocated will cover expenses such as snacks, transportation, costumes, stage arrangements, and other incidental costs. Certificates for the toppers will be printed and presented in a dignified manner during the Independence Day event. The directive underscores the government's commitment to promoting both academic achievement and civic values among school children.
