Moncada not satisfied with Milan results but backs Conceiçao

Milan visit strugglers Venezia at the Stadio Penzo in Sunday's lunchtime game in Serie A.

The Rossoneri sit ninth in the Serie A table, but have finished the season unbeaten against city rivals Inter and qualified for the Coppa Italia Final.
'We are not satisfied with the table in Serie A. We want to do more. It's important to win trophies, and it would be important to win two,' Moncada told DAZN before kick-off.
'We want to win the Coppa Italia. It's the only chance to reach Europe, but we want to do more.'
Sergio Conceiçao has been under pressure since the very start of his tenure, but could he remain at the club until the end of his contract in 2026?
'We are very happy. He's worked hard in three months, bringing an important methodology to Milanello, and we work well together,' said Moncada.
The Rossoneri are also looking for a new sporting director, but the latest updates from Italy suggest they won't appoint a new executive before the second half of May.
'We always talk about scoring goals, but performances are also important. We got many games wrong, and we can do more. We have a structure, we have Milan, and people work hard,' said Moncada.
'We think about hiring a sporting director to develop the club and take it to the next level, but our current structure is already important.'
How about Luka Jovic? His contract expires in June, but Milan have an option to extend to 2026.
'He and the coach have worked well to reach this level. We are happy,' concluded Moncada.
'We have it all under control in terms of his contract. It's not a renewal, but it's an option, and we hope he can do well in the coming games.'

Inter Milan President Admits ‘Fabregas Was A Possibility, But He Wasn't Available' – Adds That Chivu ‘Isn't A Fallback Option'
Inter Milan President Admits 'Fabregas Was A Possibility, But He Wasn't Available' – Adds That Chivu 'Isn't A Fallback Option' Beppe Marotta says Cesc Fabregas was a 'possibility' for Inter Milan, and that Cristian Chivu is 'not a fallback option.' The Nerazzurri President spoke to Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He noted that Inter were not granted the possibility of signing Fabregas by Como. Advertisement It is hardly a secret that Inter Milan had considered Cesc Fabregas as a major candidate to replace Simone Inzaghi as coach. Reportedly, Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio had worked to personally convince the Spaniard. However, there was always the key matter of whether or not Como would sanction the move. Lariani President Mirwan Suwarson strongly rebuffed the Nerazzurri's interest, and stated that his club would refuse to release the Spaniard. Therefore, in the end, Inter moved for Cristian Chivu instead of Fabregas. 'One possibility was Fabregas. However, he wasn't made available to us.' 'So we opted for Chivu,' Marotta said. 'Who's not a fallback option.' 'Thanks to Parma's willingness to work with us, we spoke and made plans with him. I hope that within a day or two it will become official.'

‘As of today, I'm here' – Granit Xhaka on his Bayer Leverkusen future
Ahead of Switzerland's friendly against Mexico in Salt Lake City, Granit Xhaka had an opportunity to address his Bayer Leverkusen future after it emerged that Milan were interested in the Bundesliga and German Cup champion. With Xabi Alonso leaving Leverkusen for Real Madrid, Jonathan Tah switching to Bayern Munich and Jeremie Frimpong joining Liverpool, with Florian Wirtz also potentially heading out of the door at the BayArena, Xhaka explained his reasoning by his recent comments, which suggested that he was about to return to Basel. Advertisement 'I already experience a major upheaval at Arsenal in 2019 […] That takes a lot of energy,' said Xhaka. 'And I'm no longer 25. I'll be 33 in September. And of course, the players who are leaving or have left are a huge loss, definitely […] Because they were extremely important for the team.' Xhaka has three-years remaining on his contract, but that hasn't stopped clubs showing an interest in signing Xhaka. Directly addressing his future, Xhaka added: 'With Simon Rolfes and Fernando Carro, we have enough players who can hopefully get the team back to that level. Whether it's with or without me is another question. But as of today, I'm here. We're happy and that's what matters.' But Xhaka also admitted that a move away could be interesting. 'I haven't played everywhere yet,' added the 32-year-old. 'Of course, you think about it but as I said, my mind is far away. I have my family and my management to take care of such things. And when the time comes and you have an offer on the table, then you start thinking about it. And when the time comes for a transfer to take place, I'll definitely let you know.' GGFN | Daniel Pinder

Gasperini takes over from Ranieri at Roma after successful run at Atalanta
ROME (AP) — Gian Piero Gasperini was named Roma's new coach on Friday, taking over for the retiring Claudio Ranieri following his own successful run at Atalanta. 'I need a significant challenge,' Gasperini said in an interview released by Roma. 'I really believe all the conditions are in place to do good work.' Advertisement He signed a three-year deal for the club owned by Texas-based businessman Dan Friedkin. In nine seasons at Atalanta, Gasperini guided the Bergamo club to a Europa League triumph in 2024, six top-four finishes in Serie A, and a Champions League quarterfinal. The 73-year-old Ranieri was hired in November when Roma was struggling in 12th place, and his contract specified he would take on an advisor role after the season. Rainieri guided Roma to a fifth-place finish as the Giallorossi lost just once during the second half of the season, and was involved in selecting the 67-year-old Gasperini, who is known for his free-flowing attacking tactics. Roma will return to the Europa League. Advertisement Gasperini becomes Roma's fourth coach in the 1 1/2 years since Jose Mourinho was fired, following Daniele De Rossi, Ivan Juric and Ranieri. The only other time Gasperini coached a big Italian club came in 2011 when he lasted just five winless matches at Inter Milan. Gasperini had one season remaining on his contract with Atalanta but announced on Saturday in an open letter published in Bergamo's newspaper to fans that he was leaving. 'Let's not call it a goodbye,' Gasperini wrote in L'Eco di Bergamo. 'I'm ending my term at Bergamo as coach of Atalanta. But everything else will remain unchanged.' In the five seasons since American owner Friedkin took over the club, Roma's only trophy has been the 2022 Conference League. Advertisement Roma has been trying unsuccessfully to build a new stadium for more than a decade. Atalanta did not immediately announce a replacement for Gasperini, with Thiago Motta and Stefano Pioli considered the top contenders for the job. Speculation has also focused on Juric. ___ AP soccer: Andrew Dampf, The Associated Press
