Hindustan Times2 days ago
Mumbai, Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya says his next film is with Ayushmann Khurrana, who he described as a 'dedicated and fine' actor. Sooraj Barjatya''s next with Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari
'We're shooting the film with them in Mumbai, it's a story set in Mumbai. He is a dedicated and fine actor. It's all about getting the right story, and making it look real and making it with the right cast. Besides them, we've more people in the cast, like how we've it in all my films,' Barjatya told PTI in an interview.
The director has often teamed up with superstar Salman Khan in most of his films including his debut, 'Maine Pyaar Kiya', 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun', 'Hum Saath Saath Hain', and 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' – all of them blockbuster hits.
He has also directed 'Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon', 'Vivaah', and 'Uunchai'.
Barjatya said he is a bit 'nervous' as the shooting for the film approaches.
'I've this nervousness before the shoot of every film. This has been there even when I made my first film, 'Maine Pyaar Kiya', it's still the same. As a creator, it's not about how much box office it will do, it's about whether you're able to connect or not, with that thought or scene."
"For me, whether it's a film or a show, everyone should feel that the world that I'm creating is honest, it shouldn't look fake, like everyone should feel that this is how my house is. That is my biggest challenge. I want to make what I know, it's important to make every kind of film, but it's important to make family films,' the 61-year-old director said.
Media reports suggest that the upcoming film, a family drama, will see Khurrana take on the iconic role of Prem that Salman used to portray in Barjatya's films.

'Can you share Virat Kohli's number?': R Ashwin foils scam attempt by fake ‘Devon Conway' after IPL 2025

Ravichandran Ashwin recounted a strange episode post-IPL 2025, when he became the target of an unusual scam in which someone posed as Devon Conway. The veteran recalled the incident after a similar incident occurred involving Rajat Patidar, whose old SIM card was reassigned in Chhattisgarh, inadvertently leading to calls from Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to an unsuspecting new user. Ravichandran Ashwin recalls an incident when a fraudster asked for Virat Kohli's number.(PTI) Ashwin shared that he got a WhatsApp message from someone posing as his CSK teammate Devon Conway. The chat began innocently, with casual greetings and talk about MLC matches to make the story sound genuine. Since he didn't have Conway's number saved, he initially thought it was really him. Ashwin grew suspicious when the supposed Conway suddenly asked for Virat Kohli's contact number. He didn't want to create any misunderstanding with the real Conway and decided to share a different number instead. "After the IPL got over, one guy messaged me claiming to be Devon Conway, 'Hi buddy, how are you?' and I also responded that we'll stay in touch. You're playing in MLC; I'll watch the games and all that talk. He then asked, 'I've missed Virat Kohli's number, can you share Virat's number?' I thought Why is he asking Virat's number. I thought I should ask him, but I didn't want Devon Conway to misunderstand. Then I picked Virat Kohli's card and gave him a different number," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. Ashwin bluffs the fraudster The veteran all-rounder revealed how the events that unfolded confirmed his suspicions, as he managed to outwit the scammer by cleverly calling their bluff. "Once I shared it, he replied, 'I've lost a few more numbers.' I asked him whose numbers, he responded, 'Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni.' I got suspicious and then asked him a question, 'I gave you a bat this year, how's that bat?'. He said the bat is amazing, and I've not even gave him any bat, he lied and I blocked him instantly,' Ashwin added about the encounter. Realising the scam, Ashwin later confirmed it by checking Conway's number on the CSK official WhatsApp group and went on to block the scammer's number.

New York city's longest-running public dance festival will commemorate India's Independence Day on August 15 by hosting an array of cultural performances focusing on the essence of 'Shakti' – the female divine energy. The 44th Annual Battery Dance Festival, which brings together diverse dance companies from around the world, will run from August 12-16. On August 15, marking India's Independence Day, the festival will host 'India Day,' a showcase of 'Shakti - Divine Energy,' a mixed programme featuring dance and cultural performances by global artists, paying homage to the female essence and creativity. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'The last two years we had a very strong focus on 'Purush', male dancers, and this year we have switched it around and we will have a strong focus on 'Shakti, divine energy,' Founder and artistic director of Battery Dance Jonathan Hollander told PTI in an interview. The specially curated day will have seven different groups which will offer their 'creative take on the essence of the feminine principle in creativity and in life itself. It's a really important theme for today's world, where there's so much conflict, fracture and unknowns,' Hollander said. 'Mother and the female essence is something that we all can relate to', at times like these, he said. The India Day Programme is supported through grants from the Consulate General of India in New York and the State Bank of India, New York. It will feature the Nandanik Dance Troupe from Pittsburgh with choreographer and soloist Subhajit Khush Das from Kolkata in a new production on the Goddess Kali. Other works that will pay tribute to the female essence will be by choreographers Bijayini Satpathy, Maya Kulkarni, Lada Pada, Sonali Skandan, Swathi Gundapuneedi-Atluri, Subhajit Khush Das, Renjith Babu and Malini Srinivasan for dancers and dance companies from Kolkata, Pittsburgh, New Jersey and New York in the styles of Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, and Uday Shankar. Emphasising the theme of the 'India Day' performances, Hollander said that on a political and social level, women's rights and respect for women and the way 'we all relate to the women in our lives, this is something that can never have too much attention." With artists from across India and the US coming together for various performances, he underscored that this speaks to the highly skilled and creative diaspora of the Indian culture in North America. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Battery Dance Festival is New York City's longest-running free public dance festival, drawing a combined audience of over 12,000 in-person and over 10,000 virtual viewers every year. 'We are all seeking a moment of refreshing ourselves, refreshing our minds,' Hollander said, speaking about the message of the festival. With people consumed with the news every day, many are left wondering, 'What is the next crisis or what is the next horror that we're going to see and feel?' he said. 'And when you're sitting at the park, in a community of people that many of whom you don't know, and you are shoulder to shoulder with people of all cultures, ethnicities, ages, I think there's a sense of celebrating human nature and celebrating what we have in common,' he added.
