Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford full fight card: Official lineup set for Netflix blockbuster
This past week, TKO Boxing and Netflix confirmed the three-fight main card, which consists of a WBC interim super middleweight title bout between Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez, a prospect battle featuring Dana White-backed Irishman Callum Walsh against Fernando Vargas Jr. — the son of the two-division champion Fernando Vargas — and Saudi boxer Mohammed Alakel against John Ornelas.
On Tuesday afternoon, UFC CEO White confirmed six preliminary fights that will stream live on YouTube starting at 5:30 p.m. ET.
The most noteworthy addition was a rematch between super welterweight contenders Serhii Bohachuk (26-2, 24 KOs) and Brandon Adams (25-4, 16 KOs) over 10 rounds at a 156-pound catchweight. Adams came from behind on the scorecards to upset Bohachuk by eighth-round TKO on a 2021 NBC Sports card in Puerto Rico. Adams, however, was unable to capitalize on the win, as he didn't fight for three years after beating Bohachuk. Andreas Katzourakis defeated Adams by split decision in the American's latest bout this past November.
Bohachuk won five fights in a row after that 2021 defeat before capturing the WBC interim title, which he lost to Vergil Ortiz Jr. in August 2024. The Ukrainian rebounded from the defeat to stop Ishmael Davis this past December and added Mykal Fox to his résumé in May.
Also on the card, unbeaten heavyweight Ivan Dychko (15-0, 14 KOs) steps up to face Jermaine Franklin Jr. (23-2, 15 KOs) over 10 rounds. Franklin, who ends a 16-month layoff for the bout, lost back-to-back fights on British soil against Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua in 2022 and 2023, but has since rebounded to score two wins on Detroit fight cards. Dychko, a double Olympic bronze medalist, knows that at age 35, time is running out for the Kazakh to establish himself as a legitimate contender in boxing's blue ribbon division, and thusly jumps up the levels to meet Franklin on Sept. 13.
Crawford's teammate, Steven Nelson (20-1, 16 KOs), also clashes with Raiko Santana (12-4, 6 KOs) in a light heavyweight bout over 10 rounds. Nelson hasn't fought since falling short to Diego Pacheco at super middleweight this past January in Las Vegas. Santana, a Cuban now based in Texas, has won back-to-back split decision upsets over Lorenzo Simpson and Marquis Moore, and now looks to pull off a third away corner win against Nelson.
A trio of top prospects — Marco Verde, Reito Tsutsumi and Sultan Almohamed — also feature on the broadcast. Almohamed makes his professional debut against Martin Caraballo (0-0-1) over four rounds, Japanese amateur standout Tsutsumi (2-0, 1 KO) faces Javier Martinez (7-2, 4 KOs) over six rounds, and 2024 Olympic silver medalist Verde (2-0, 1 KO) get his third pro outing against an opponent to be confirmed over six rounds.

Basketball at 2028 LA Olympics will start 2 days before opening ceremony, FIBA says
MIES, Switzerland (AP) — Basketball at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will start two days before the opening ceremony for those Games, organizers confirmed Wednesday. FIBA, the sport's global governing body, said that it has reviewed a revised basketball schedule for Los Angeles and that games will begin on July 12, 2028 — ahead of the July 14 opening ceremony. It is unclear if the men's tournament, the women's tournament or both will start before the official opening. A preliminary schedule released last month calls for three basketball games on July 12 and three more on July 13. 'This adjustment allows the quarterfinals to be played over two days and will also ensure that no game will start earlier than (noon), enhancing the overall experience for players, teams, fans and broadcasters,' FIBA said in a news release. Bronze-medal games will be played on July 28 and 29, and gold-medal games will occur on July 29 and 30. July 30 is the final day of the Games. Several other sports also are scheduled to start before the opening ceremony, including field hockey, rugby sevens, water polo, handball, cricket and soccer. The canoe slalom competition in Oklahoma City is expected to start in the morning of July 14, hours before the opening ceremony later that day about 1,200 miles (1,931 km) away. Washington is hoping to take a step forward in the Huskies' second Big Ten season
SEATTLE (AP) — Getting some strong quarterback play out of Demond Williams Jr. would go a long way as Washington looks to improve upon the 6-7 record it posted in its first Big Ten season. Williams, who appeared in 13 games for the Huskies as a freshman and completed over 78% of his passes, drew praise from first-year offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty at the beginning of fall practice, not just for his passing abilities, but also his attention to detail. 'Demond only had one interception on over 100 attempts,' Dougherty told reporters in July. 'If we can keep that ratio going, we're going to do a lot of good things in the passing game.' During head coach Jedd Fisch's first year at the helm, Washington did a solid job airing it out even before Williams took over for the final two games of the season. The Huskies ranked 32nd among FBS teams in passing yards per game (261.7), but struggled to consistently establish a run game. Washington running backs combined for 128.8 yards per contest, good for 100th in the country, though Jonah Coleman was a steady contributor by rushing for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns. With Williams and Coleman back in Seattle, as well as wide receiver Denzel Boston, who had 63 catches for 834 receiving yards in 2024, the Huskies have a trio of offensive weapons that can stack up with plenty of others in the conference. But, as Fisch noted, competition will be stiff in a conference that produced four College Football Playoff teams a year ago. 'We have a really, really good conference with really, really good coaches,' Fisch said. 'We have really good teams. We have a lot of big-name programs that have spent years and years building up rosters, coaching staffs, facilities, fan base, etc., to be able to prepare themselves to play in the Big Ten.' Shutdown secondary The Huskies will be hard-pressed to do much better in the secondary than they did in 2024, when they ranked second in the country with the fewest passing yards allowed per game. Washington returns cornerback Ephesians Prysock and has added fellow 6-foot-4 cornerback Tacario Davis to the mix. 'Obviously having 6-4 corners is something that not a lot of NFL teams can say,' first-year defensive coordinator Ryan Walters said. 'So, it allows you to be aggressive at the line of scrimmage. And, hopefully, those guys can make it hard for those guys on the outside.' Slotting in While Boston returning for a fourth season bodes well for the Huskies' passing game, questions persist about who will most frequently line up at slot receiver. Following Washington's final open practice of fall camp, Fisch sang the praises of freshman Braiden Vines-Bright, as well as Kevin Green Jr., who missed last year due to injury, and Penn State transfer Omari Evans. Left guard up for grabs From Fisch's perspective, it's an ongoing competition between John Mills and Paki Finau to see who will start at left guard for Washington in 2025. Finau, a redshirt freshman, and Mills, a freshman, don't bring much experience to the table, but both were highly regarded recruits. 'Those two guys continue to battle it out,' Fisch said. '...I would expect alternating in some regard. But, really good job by Mills stepping in as a true freshman, and Paki keeps getting better.' The schedule The Huskies open at home against Colorado State on Aug. 30 and visit rival Washington State on Sept. 20. Washington's first conference game comes at Husky Stadium against Ohio State on Sept. 27. The Huskies' longest road trip is Oct. 4 at Maryland. Orlando Pride finalizing record deal with Tigres for Lizbeth Ovalle, AP source says
Lizbeth Ovalle is expected to join the Orlando Pride from Mexico's Tigres UANL on a record transfer fee of $1.5 million, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The deal is expected to be completed by the National Women's Soccer League's transfer deadline on Monday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agreement had not yet been formally signed. The transfer fee surpasses the $1.3 million fee Arsenal paid Liverpool for Canadian striker Olivia Smith in the English Women's Super League last month. That broke the previous record fee of $1.1 million that Chelsea paid the San Diego Wave for defender Naomi Girma in January. Ovalle, a 25-year-old winger, has led the Tigres of Liga MX Femenil to six titles since joining the club in 2017. She is the team's all-time leading scorer with 136 goals. She's also made 58 appearances for the Mexican national team with 20 goals.
