Inside Noel Gallagher's tense feud with Lewis Capaldi and 'third world' Scotland
Noel Gallagher might be gearing up for the Oasis shows in Scotland, but he's previously hit out at one of the country's biggest stars. Liam and Noel are set to rock Murrayfield with three gigs on August 8, 9, and 12, each expected to draw mammoth crowds of over 67,000.
The anticipation is palpable as thousands still hope to get their hands on a last-minute ticket, but some Scots may have their excitement dampened upon recalling Noel harsh past comments about Scotland. Despite his then-wife Sara McDonald being from Edinburgh, Noel once went so far as to label Scotland a "third world country" during an interview.
Adding to the controversy, the singer has also had a spat with one of Scotland's most loved singers, Lewis Capaldi, who is often praised for his grounded personality, witty humour, and exceptional musical gift. The feud ignited when Noel admitted on Radio X in 2019 that he was clueless about the Scottish vocalist.
At the time, Lewis's first album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, had soared to number one in the UK and Ireland, becoming the year's quickest selling album.
Noel didn't mince words about the current state of music, declaring: "Music is f***ing w*** at the moment". He then took a swipe at the Glasgow-born Capaldi, asking: "Who's this Capaldi fella? Who the f***'s that idiot?" In typical Capaldi style, the Scottish singer had fans in stitches as he took to Instagram stories to mockingly celebrate Noel's disparaging remarks.
While watching the interview, Capaldi exclaimed: "F***ing c'mon! F***ing peaked – slagged off by Noel Gallagher!" He continued with glee: "Number 1 single – who gives a f**k? Number 1 album – who gives a f**k? Noel Gallagher has just slagged me off. This is dreams coming true."
Capaldi didn't hold back, cheekily wishing Gallagher a happy Father's Day while playing Oasis' 2002 anthem Stop Crying Your Heart Out. Noel quickly retorted with a tweet mocking Lewis' hit 'Someone You Loved', featuring a video of his then 11-year-old pretending to weep to the song.
His tweet read: "@LewisCapaldi you big daftie. You might wanna try and find some joy in your tunes, you're destroying the youth..my 11yr old is in bits."
Oasis: What's Their Story? An unofficial celebration magazine on sale now!
A few simple words on social media on August 27 in 2024 were enough to spark pandemonium among Oasis fans and were the catalyst for the most eagerly awaited UK gigs of all time.
This special unofficial magazine, available to order here, marks the reunion and honours the band both now and down the years with our incredible archive of photos and interviews - and with exclusive reviews and photographs of their first show!
Undeterred, Lewis rocked up at Glastonbury Festival donning a classic Gallagher-esque parka which he unzipped to reveal a tee emblazoned with the Oasis star's face encased in a heart.
Capaldi escalated the banter by posing for a backstage photo with Noel's formerly estranged brother and Oasis bandmate, Liam Gallagher. Noel, clearly irked, mentioned Lewis' antics in a Variety interview and savagely mocked the singer's looks.
The High Flying Birds frontman declared: "F****** Chewbacca should enjoy his 15 minutes. The greatest day of his life that I slagged him off or called him an idiot. It's the greatest day of his f****** life so far. He's just thinking 'Wow.

"Well, I know you're Scottish and all that, but f****** hell. It is like a third world country, but for f***'s sake, man, you must have had a better day than this. Surely."
Lewis had supporters in stitches yet again when he promptly updated his Twitter handle to "Chewis Capaldi" and switched his profile image to a doctored photo showing his face superimposed onto the iconic Star Wars character's body.
Nevertheless, the duo have since buried the hatchet and have actually crossed paths on several occasions. Noel has now described Lewis as a "good lad" following all his earlier digs at the singer.
Noel and Liam have also set aside their rivalry and are presently touring across the UK as part of their Oasis Live 25 shows.
viagogo and resale tickets
Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs.
Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused.

Pioneering Australian singer dead - as fans remember the '60s rocker as a 'great showman'
Pioneering Australian musician John Brownrigg, best known as a member of late-1960s rock outfit The Sect, died on Friday, aged in his 80s. The English-born performer rose to fame after joining the band of six young men in Queensland in the late '60s, under the name The In Sect. No cause of death was given and it is believed he was in poor health for some time. Brownrigg had previously performed in a group called The Feelgoods and developed a reputation across Queensland as the energetic co-vocalist and key musician of The Sect, who were renowned for their live shows. With encouragement from members of The Masters Apprentices, they signed to Columbia and released their debut single Lonely Road, written by Moscos, followed by St. John's Wood, penned by Doug Ford and Jim Keays. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The Sect also supported legendary Motown act The Four Tops during the American vocal group's tour of Australia before disbanding in 1970. After the band split, Brownrigg, along with Ron Walters and Paul Doo, formed a group called Star Spangled Banner in 1972. This progressive rock venture released a self-titled album and single in 1973 under Havoc Records. Brownrigg was the principal songwriter and vocalist and the band's only released album later became a highly sought-after collectable. In the years that followed, Brownrigg remained a respected figure in the Australian music community and continued to perform to packed bars and clubs across the country until shortly before his death. Fans took to social media to pay tribute following news of his passing. 'It is sad to lose John – he was a good bloke and a great singer/showman. We will all miss him. RIP,' one heartbroken fan wrote. Another added: 'Saw The Feelgoods live in Brisbane. Excellent band. I recall John singing "Hooked on a Feeling" at a Brisbane nightclub. Great singer.' Further details surrounding his passing have not been made public, including his cause of death. Throughout his career, Brownrigg's charisma and powerful vocals left an indelible mark on Australia's rock scene, earning him a loyal following that spanned generations. Even after The Sect disbanded, Brownrigg's passion for music endured, inspiring countless musicians and fans alike with his talent and dedication. His legacy lives on through the timeless music he created and the memories shared by those fortunate enough to have witnessed his electrifying performances. Brownrigg is survived by several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Osbournes who were snubbed from the family tribute: Ozzy's little-known son who was included in touching statement breaks his silence alongside sister who was left out - as mystery adopted child stays quiet
Ozzy Osbourne is survived by his six children following his death aged 76 on Tuesday - despite only four being mentioned in the family statement. The Black Sabbath frontman passed away 'surrounded by love', with children Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis, along with wife Sharon named in the statement. But it remains a mystery why his two other children, Jessica and Elliot, were snubbed from the family tribute. Hours after it was published to social media, Jessica reshared Mario Lopez's tribute to her own Instagram and penned, 'RIP Ozzy.' It is unclear if she will release her own public statement, along with Elliot. Jessica was the one who made Ozzy a grandparent for the first time, and despite never appearing in The Osbournes' TV show, she was mentioned in the episode 'Smells Like Teen Spirits,' when Ozzy learned that she had welcomed a daughter. Jessica, who is now a Broadway actress, has two daughters, Isabelle and Kitty, and one son called Harry. Meanwhile, not much is known about Elliot Kingsley as he tends to keep out of the spotlight with no public social media accounts. Louis was clearly devastated by his father's passing, as he changed his Facebook profile picture to an all-black screen. Ozzy had three children from his first marriage, and three from his marriage to Sharon, whom he remained married to until his death. Before tying the knot to Sharon, he married his first wife Thelma Riley in 1971 after meeting her in a Birmingham nightclub. Together, they welcomed children Jessica and Louis, although details surrounding their birthdays are unclear. Ozzy also adopted Thelma's five-year-old son Elliot from a previous relationship. Louis now works as a DJ and married actress Louise Lennon in 2004. The pair tied the knot in 2004, with Ozzy unable to attend after suffering major injuries after being injured in a quad bike accident. In the 2011 documentary film God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, produced by his son Jack, he revealed that he could not even remember when Louis and Jessica were born. Ozzy and Thelma Riley's son Louis, who was mentioned in the statement despite his siblings being left off, changed his Facebook profile picture to black following the news Louis also opened up about growing up with a drunk father. 'When he was around and he wasn't [drunk], he was a great father,' he said in the documentary. 'But that was kind of seldom, really. I just have a lot of memories of him being drunk, random s**t like driving cars across fields and crashing them in the middle of the night and stuff like that. 'It's not good for family life, really.' His older sister, Jessica added: 'I don't remember being put to bed or having a bath by dad or anything like that. 'I wouldn't say he was there for us, no, never on sports day, school trip, parents' evening. He wasn't like that, no.' After divorcing Thelma, Osbourne went on to marry Sharon in 1982. Their first child, daughter Aimee was born September 2, 1983. One year later, they welcomed daughter Kelly (born October 27, 1984), and on November 8, 1985, their son, Jack was born. Aimee - who is also a singer and performs under her initials ARO - was born in London and raised in California until the age of 16 but moved out of the family home as filming for The Osbournes began in the early 2000s. Reflecting on her decision to not appear on the show she said: 'Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television? 'I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable.' She later defended her decision in 2008 and told The Independent: 'I'm not some weirdo depressed daughter that's afraid of the world and locks herself in her room all day. 'I just didn't choose to do the show. I want to be a singer, and I felt if I'd stayed with the Osbournes and done the whole thing I would have been typecast right away. '[Sharon] was hurt, and we definitely had a tough time with disagreements. I'm more reserved and my private life is very important.' Aimee also has a strained relationship with younger sister Kelly, who confirmed in an interview four years ago that they are estranged. Appearing on the Dax Shepard podcast - Armchair Expert in 2021, Kelly revealed: 'We don't talk. We're just really different. 'She doesn't understand me and I don't understand her.' Back in 2015 Aimee admitted to The Independent that she and Kelly were not on close terms and said: 'I wouldn't say there is an ease between us, but there is an acceptance. Do we socialize? No.' However, Aimee and brother Jack's bond is much better, with the pair both running production company Osbourne Media together. The Osbourne family said in a statement on Tuesday: 'It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. 'He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.' Ozzy revealed earlier this year that he could no longer walk amid his years-long battle with Parkinson's disease. However, he still managed to reunite with his bandmates Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward for their final gig earlier this month. Amid his ailing health, Ozzy admitted he was unsure whether to perform standing up or sitting down following a series of spinal operations. The singer was in strict training, which even sees his blood pressure being taken 15 times a day. He explained: 'I have got this trainer guy who helps people get back to normal. It's hard going, but he's convinced that he can pull it off for me. I'm giving it everything I've got. 'It's endurance. The first thing that goes when you're laid up is your stamina. 'I am having my blood pressure taken 15 times a day.. I've got this f***ing device on my finger. It's a monitor to say how my heart rate is.' Ozzy vowed to do the 'best he can' during his final show after his string of health concerns in recent years. The star was a titan of music who somehow survived controversies that would end the careers of many others, and weathered health problems that would leave most of us on our backs. The death of the man who invented headbanging ends the final chapter of a life that was marked by both dizzying success and fame but also scandal, abuse and even prison time. The singer, who sold more than 100 million records, will forever be synonymous with the heavy metal band he formed in his home city. With hits that included Iron Man, War Pigs and Paranoid, Black Sabbath's pushing of occult themes proved both hugely popular and controversial, with a future pope even condemning Osbourne for his 'subliminal satanic influence'. Ozzy was born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham in 1948, and dropped out of school at the age of 15. After serving two months in prison for burglary, he decided to pursue his love of music and by 1970 Black Sabbath had gained a huge following in the US and UK with the release of their first album. Ozzy quit the band in 1978 and divorced his first wife Thelma Mayfair, who he had two children with, four years later, amid his ongoing substance abuse problems. He went on to marry second wife Sharon Osbourne, who helped him transform into a successful solo artist and the couple had three children together. Ozzy gained a whole new audience of fans with the family's reality TV show The Osbournes in 2001. He is survived by his wife Sharon and his five children, Jessica, Louis, Aimee, Kelly and Jack.

How to get to Oasis Murrayfield gigs by bus, train or tram - full public transport options
There's an array of options to get to and from the gigs with ease - but be sure to beat the crowds. As the countdown to the much-anticipated Oasis Edinburgh shows continues, it's time to start planning your way to and from the gig. And with over 67,000 fans descending on the stadium for each of the Gallaghers' three shows in the Scots capital, it's safe to say that you don't want to leave your organising to the last minute. Liam and Noel will be taking to the Edinburgh stage on August 8, 9, and 12, when eager fans will finally hear hits like Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger for the first time since the brothers' infamous fallout 15 years ago. But with such a large-scale series of events, which chaotically coincides with the Edinburgh Fringe and Festival, it's very important to know how you're going to get to and from the gigs amid the crowds. With this in mind, we've rounded up some ways you can get to and from Murrayfield Stadium for the concert, including bus, train and tram. For Edinburgh road closures taking place during the gigs, see our list here. But scroll down for everything you need to know about public transport to Murrayfield. Train Murrayfield Stadium is a 23-minute walk from Haymarket train station, according to Google Maps, so those travelling into Edinburgh from elsewhere for the gig would do well to get off the train here. Be mindful that Waverly Station is a fair bit further to Murrayfield, although plenty buses or trams are available to get to Murrayfield from there. Scroll down for all the best inner city bus options. Bus Citylink is offering special services straight to the concert venue from Dundee, Perth Broxden, Halbeath Park and Ride, and Kinross Park and Ride to take you straight to the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium. However, Citylink notes that because these are special services, NEC cards won't be valid. Flixbus and Megabus also offer varied options for those travelling from further afield to Edinburgh city centre. If you've made your way to town in Edinburgh, several Lothian buses will take you straight to the doorstep of Murrayfield (where there are also many pubs to have a pint before heading in). The standard adult single fare for Lothian buses is £2.20. Some Lothian bus options include: 26 Clerwood (Lothian buses) 31 Eastcraigs (Lothian buses) 12 Gyle Centre You can get off at Roseburn Gardens or Murrayfield Road to be deposited just outside the venue. Other buses that pass by Murrayfield include the Citylink 900 to Glasgow, although this option may also be pricier than Lothian buses. Tram For those looking for a speedier option from Waverly or Haymarket station, or from Edinburgh city centre, the tram is another perfect way of getting to the gig. With a stop directly at Murrayfield Stadium, you can be dropped directly at the gig in a few minutes. But be sure to always buy your tram ticket at the stop before boarding, as tickets are unavailable to buy once you've hopped on. A return adult ticket for inner city travel on the tram is £4.20, or it's £2.20 for a single. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to and from the gig, especially when trying to catch a bus or train, as it's likely to be extremely busy on all three nights.
