Matty J and Laura have revealed their most controversial reno choice yet

7NEWS18-06-2025
Reality stars Matthew Johnson and Laura Byrne have revealed their latest renovation updates, including their most controversial choice yet.
The Bachelor favourites have been renovating a retro seaside property on the South Coast of New South Wales since they purchased it at auction in June 2024 for $2.19 million.
The oceanfront house, known as ' Chante Mer house ' (sing the sea), has an Instagram account that charts updates with over 129,000 followers.
Since choosing to share their progress, fans of the couple have been all too willing to share their opinions on the design decisions - and this latest reveal has been no different.
Last month, Laura shared a post to the account with the caption, "Here is the great fireplace reveal for everyone who has been following along. The most controversial of all our reno choices and the heart of our little home."

In the video, Laura explains that she chose the controversial "spew tiles" because they wanted a "bold and beautiful" choice for the heart of their home.
The Toni May jewellery designer said she couldn't "be more happy with how it's all turned out," and then urged followers to embrace fun when making design decisions.
"Here's your reminder that it's ok to do something really fun with your interiors."
Comments on the post were overwhelming positive with followers saying, "It's perfect", "Absolutely love it" and "Stunning".
Another big reveal from the couple was the before and after of the downstairs bedroom.
In the video, Matty J shares that he and Laura originally wanted a colour for the walls - alternating between yellow, green and salmon - but ultimately went for a neutral.
"Thank god we came to our senses and went with a warm white," he said in the post.
They choose a rattan bed frame, paired with toffee and green sheets, marble side tables, blue chair and a white floor rug.
Followers were very complimentary about the view and styling of the room saying, "Love it", "Looks fabulous", and "The view is too good."

The couple also shared images of the foyer with polka dot sconce and marble console with the caption, "Making an entrance, our little foyer area full of personality."
This was a far cry from the opinions shared when the couple revealed their main bathroom.
Originally pink, the room was gutted and transformed to include a double shower, beige and bone subway stripe tiles and antique brass fittings.
While some enthused about the updates, "MY JAW DROPPED! I love it" and "It's amazing", others were far from keen "I love you guys but I hate this. Sorry just hurts my eyes" and "Ekkk sorry but way too much going on. Seems all over the place and doesn't match".
It seems followers are more on board with the more recent design decisions.
But these weren't the only exciting reveals to come from the couple recently.
In April, the parents-of-two shared that they were expecting a third child - another little girl to join the family.

Prince Philip drops F-bomb at Harry and Meghan's wedding, according to new royal memoir

A shocking new claim about Prince Philip's unfiltered reaction to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding has surfaced in a former royal aide's memoir, and it is anything but warm. Grant Harold, who previously served as a butler for King Charles when he resided at his Highgrove estate, recalls in his new book that Prince Philip did not mince his words as he left St George's Chapel in Windsor following the Sussexes' marriage in 2018. Standing alongside the Queen, the 96-year-old Duke of Edinburgh is said to have muttered a brutal four word sledge as he walked out of the service: 'Thank f*** that's over.' 'It was very funny. I think he was speaking for the majority of people, who were wondering what it was all about and when it was going to end, but he was the man who actually said it,' Harold writes in The Royal Butler. While Philip was well-known for his candid and sometimes controversial gaffes, the revelation adds to a growing list of stories suggesting Harry's grandparents were never entirely convinced by his choice of bride. Royal biographer Ingrid Seward has previously claimed that Philip privately nicknamed Markle 'D.O.W' – a pointed comparison to Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, whose romance with Edward VIII shook the monarchy in the 1930s. According to Seward, Philip grew wary of Markle's 'charm offensive' ahead of the wedding and even warned the Queen to be cautious. 'It was uncanny,' the Duke reportedly said, 'how much Meghan reminded him of the Duchess of Windsor.' While the Queen continued to show outward support for Harry and Markle, insiders suggest that Philip's suspicions endured. Seven years on, Harry and Markle are settled in Montecito, California and marking wedding anniversaries with doting Instagram tributes.

‘Pool of blood': US singer found by friend

Tamar Braxton is recovering after what she describes as a near-death experience over the weekend. The Grammy-nominated singer, 48, revealed on her Instagram stories that she suffered a frightening accident that left her seriously injured. Braxton said she was discovered in a pool of blood by a friend and admitted she 'almost died.' 'I struggled to write this but everyone keeps calling me and honestly, I can't even really talk anymore I'm so weak,' she began. 'I almost died Sunday. I was found in a pool of blood from my friend with a face injury. 'As the days go by the worse it is,' she continued. 'I fractured my nose, lost some teeth and mobility. The way I look at life now is totally different. As my health is on the mend my mental journey begins… pray for me for real. 'I don't even know what happened to me.' Her post featured the song 'Spirit Lead Me' by Clavier in the background. Later, she also reshared a passage from Proverbs 31 — a Bible verse about strong women. Tamar Braxton Instagram. In March, she announced: 'It is OFFICIALLY tour time!!!! Ima tell yall to get yall tickets!! A whole new set list… and the new music STARTS HERE!!!' Braxton has also recently returned to screens, reuniting with her family for The Braxtons, a WEtv reality series dedicated to her late sister Traci, who died in 2022 from esophageal cancer. The show, which followed the family's journey, has been renewed for a second season. Toni Braxton said in a trailer for season one: 'The main reason for wanting to do The Braxtons again is because of Traci.' Their mother, Evelyn 'Miss E' Braxton, added: 'She asked us to do this — this was her last wish.' In April, Braxton posted a moving tribute on what would have been Traci's 54th birthday, sharing a concert video set to her sister's song Last Call. Writing in the caption, she said: 'Happy Heavenly Birthday beautiful @therealtracibraxton. We miss you down here sis!! But I know God didn't want to see you sick like that so, he brought you home to himself to heal you. Thank you for being an amazing sister and covering all of us down here'

‘Australia's most tattooed woman' Amber Luke, 30, announces bold plan to get the faded ink covering her entire face removed

'Australia's most tattooed woman' has made the bold decision to get the ink covering her face removed. Amber Luke, who goes by the moniker Blue Eyes White Dragon on Instagram, rose to social media fame for her prolific body art consisting of about 600 tattoos, along with several prominent piercings and implants. The 30-year-old went under the needle and knife after being diagnosed with body dysmorphia at 16 years old, when she "hated" her appearance. The then fresh-faced schoolgirl said she wanted to "reinvent" herself into somebody she could be 'mentally and physically' proud of. Luke even had her eyeballs inked at the age of 22, revealing the excruciating process rendered her blind for three weeks. Now, after spending a staggering $280,000 on ink from head to toe, the Queensland woman's 36 face tattoos are becoming distorted and faded. Luke took to Instagram on Monday to share startling before and after snaps of herself before completely covering her face with the tattered ink. The blonde beauty was once with clear and glowing skin, and her eyes, now completely hidden by blue ink, were a vivid shade of deep brown. Luke claimed her facial tattoos faded after her weight fluctuated after jail, despite avoiding a three-year prison sentence for drug trafficking in 2021. "It's now August 2025 and I am currently in the process of removing all my 36 face tattoos," she wrote in the caption. "Mainly because I have lost and gained weight over the years (I blame the bread in jail) - my face tattoos are now distorted and half faded. "I also am wholeheartedly so excited to see my face at 30 years old, for the first time in 10 years." Luke said she concluded at the age of 20 society would always judge her no matter what, opting to "take (her) power and harness it." She got her tongue split and earlobes stretched, as well as a large floating neck tattoo which read: 'Amber, you do you boo'. "Let's do you or go 6 feet under trying," Luke said of her chosen phrase, as she got candid about how her mind has shifted over the last decade. "When I was younger, my mindset was different," the OnlyFans model said. "It wasn't adapted to my emotions and hadn't had the opportunity to grow resilient to situations. I covered my face to hide myself. "I wanted to express myself, but I also didn't like what I looked like." Luke asked herself: "Do I regret my decision-making process?" "Nope," she said. "Everything happens for a reason- sometimes for the reasons we don't understand until later in life." In the comments, people praised the Queenslander for her outspokenness, as they championed her journey from lost to empowered. "I hope the journey lets you release some of the versions of yourself that are no longer in alignment," one person said. "Life is a journey, and what was right for you at the time doesn't have to be right for you forever," another person said. "You're absolutely like the naturally pretty kind at that, always liked the tats too, but your bare face is the best artwork on it," a third chimed. "We're allowed to change and grow, proud of you." In 2021, Luke broke down at the Brisbane District Court after avoiding a three-year prison sentence for peddling drugs. She wiped her eyes as the court was told how she earned thousands of dollars for trafficking street-level drugs, leading to a major police bust. However, instead of being ordered to remain behind bars, Luke was given immediate parole to seek treatment for serious mental health issues. As for whether Luke is on the path to ditching the ink for good, anything could be possible, after she previously vowed to drop body modifications, but then added "fangs" to her very distinctive persona.
