Medical professionals ready to care for any injury during possibly rainy 2025 Pittsburgh Marathon
The start of the Pittsburgh Marathon is just a few hours away. It kicks off at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
Yiming Gu of Shaler was one of the last runners to pick up his race numbers before doors closed Saturday.

'I'm excited and I'm (sic) looking forward to this day for a while,' Gu said.
Gu will be one of the anticipated 23,000 runners taking their marks just days after devastating storms rolled through the area. With more rain expected on race day, Gu said it's not ideal, but he's ready.

'For me, the most difficult part is my feet will get soft because of the moisture, so it's very easy to get blisters,' he said.
Pittsburgh Marathon Medical Director Leonard Weiss said the wet weather can also cause slips and falls. That's why more than 300 health care professionals and volunteers will be on standby at a medical tent at the finish line and stationed along the course.

'We're ready to take care of anything from the most minor to the most severe illness or injury. We have a critical care area,' Weiss said. 'We have 17 aid stations that are spread out throughout the course. We have medics that are on cycles. We have medics and ambulances, physicians, PAs, nurses. They're all spread out and ready.'
Weiss said the best thing to do before the race is to drink plenty of water, eat a healthy meal and rest up.
That's what Yiming Gu, 35, plans to do before running the marathon a second time after a 10-year hiatus.
'I just want to finish alive and healthy, and really, I'm getting older,' Gu said. 'I have recently had a new baby, so it's more like being healthy and being there for the baby and role model for the baby.'

Weiss said during the marathon, they typically treat about 200 to 300 people.
Everything is in place for Sunday's race except for the starting line. That is going to be set up overnight starting at 2 a.m.

Crowds continue to grow at U.S. Open as fans make their way in from across the country
You could tell Tuesday afternoon, the second day of the U.S. Open practice rounds, the crowd at Oakmont Country Club was getting bigger. With the increase in crowds, that means there were more lines for things like the concession stand, and just more people making their way through security, around the course and other public areas. Advertisement Despite that, fans praised the work of the security and staff. 'They're ready for it! They're ready for it,' said Rick Peluso of McCandless. 'Whoever's in charge, kudos to them, because they've done it well.' As more golf fans descend on Oakmont, Channel 11 is starting to see more and more people from outside the Pittsburgh area. Channel 11's Andrew Havranek spoke with one family visiting from Venice, Florida, which is a little south of Tampa. Chasie and Rick Haupt drove 17 hours with their twin daughters — Zoe and Pippa — who both play golf — up to Oakmont for the U.S. Open, and to visit family they have in the Pittsburgh area. It's not their first professional golf tournament. The family said they went to Scotland for the British Open last year. Advertisement Havranek asked them what it means to them to have this family time, and asked the twins what they've liked the most so far. 'It is a gorgeous golf course. It's great to be able to show them what's out there and what you can do if you really work at it someday,' Rick Haupt said. 'What's been sort of the most exciting for you this week?' Havranek asked the twins. 'Just watching them play and see how they do their strategies and stuff,' Pippa Haupt said. 'Yeah, I really like them hitting out of the rough and not making it!' Decreasing clouds, humidity dropping during the day
We'll have clouds and sun this afternoon with breezy conditions, and temperatures will reach the mid to upper 70s. A few isolated showers are possible, mainly south and east of Pittsburgh this afternoon through the evening. Comfortable conditions will settle in, with a clearing sky tonight and into early Wednesday morning, and lows dropping to the 50s. This clearing will give you a chance to catch a glimpse of the last full moon of spring, the full 'Strawberry Moon,' which reaches its peak Wednesday morning at 3:45 a.m. We'll have a pleasant start to Wednesday with plenty of sunshine and temperatures jumping to the low 80s. Wildfire smoke from Canada will begin to mix in a little more later Wednesday afternoon and evening and continue into Thursday. Make sure to check back for the latest on this throughout the week. This dry stretch will also continue through much of Friday, with the chance of a few showers or storms returning later Friday and into the weekend.
