Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5 Becomes India's Costliest Comedy At Rs 225 Crore: Report
Akshay Kumar and Sajid Nadiadwala's Housefull 5, releasing on June 6, 2025, is set to be the most expensive comedy film in Indian cinema.
Akshay Kumar is coming back with Housefull 5, and this time, it's bigger and crazier than ever. According to a new report, the movie has been made with a huge budget of Rs 225 crore, making it the most expensive comedy film ever made in India! And guess what? That amount doesn't even include money spent on posters or ads!
The team went all out for this one. They shot big parts of the film on a real cruise ship in international waters for 90 days. The rest of the scenes were filmed on grand sets in Mumbai.
Housefull 5 also features 19 popular actors in the cast. Insiders say it wasn't easy at all, but producer Sajid Nadiadwala didn't hold back. He pulled out all the stops to make sure the movie looked grand. A source told Pinkvilla, 'Housefull 5 was among the most difficult film to set up for Sajid Nadiadwala. He has made a lavish 'Killer Comedy' for the audience, without compromising on the costs".
The report also says that Housefull 5 has a bigger budget than any comedy film before it, beating Housefull 4 (which cost Rs 165 crore) and Golmaal Again (Rs 142 crore). The film now stands as one of Akshay Kumar's top three most expensive films, right up there with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Sooryavanshi.
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 is set to release on June 6, 2025. It will be released in theatres with two endings. In an official statement, producer Sajid Nadiadwala shared, 'With Housefull 5, we wanted to take a bold creative swing that hasn't been done before internationally for any thriller film. The idea of having multiple endings, multiple experiences has been with me for 30 years."
The latest installment in the beloved comedy franchise has raked in a whopping Rs 3.88 crore in advance bookings. The film has already sold 25,429 tickets across India. Of the Rs 3.88 crore in advance sales, Rs 90.88 lakh has been collected so far, with Rs 36.41 lakh coming from the Hindi-language version alone.
Housefull 5 is co-written and directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Warda Nadiadwala and Firuzi Khan under production banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film features an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey, Nikitin Dheer and Johnny Lever.

Messi's India tour gets final seal of approval, first stop is Kolkata
Kolkata: Lionel Messi's much-anticipated visit to India has received its final seal of approval with the Argentine superstar set to kick off his three-city tour in Kolkata on December 12, promoter of the event Satadru Dutta said on Friday. As earlier reported by PTI, the football-mad city of Kolkata will be the first stop in Messi's whirlwind trip named 'GOAT Tour of India 2025', followed by Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. The visit will conclude after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on December 15. This will be the Argentine great's first trip to India since 2011 when he visited the country with his national to play a FIFA friendly against Venezuela at the Salt Lake Stadium here. 'I got the authorisation and afterwards made it official (on social media). Messi will post any day between August 28 and September 1 with the official poster with all details and a small introduction of his tour,' Dutta told PTI, confirming his visit. Dutta met Messi's father earlier this year to present the proposal, and on February 28, Messi himself met him at his residence for a 45-minute discussion. Messi's entourage may also include Inter Miami teammates Rodrigo De Paul, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets among others but Dutta refused to divulge any name. Messi's visit will feature masterclass with children in each city, aimed at inspiring the next generation of Indian footballers. He will land in Kolkata on the night of December 12 and spend two days and one night in his longest stop on the tour. His December 13 schedule begins with a meet-and-greet in the morning, which will also feature a special food and tea festival. The day's highlight will be the unveiling of Messi's statue, followed by the 'GOAT Concert' and 'GOAT Cup' at either Eden Gardens or Salt Lake Stadium. Another addition of the tour is the unveiling of his mural during the upcoming Durga Puja where fans can 'post messages and draw something.' The GOAT Cup at Eden Gardens will be a celebratory seven-a-side soft-touch football match, with Messi teaming up alongside Sourav Ganguly, Leander Paes, John Abraham and Bhaichung Bhutia. Organisers expect a sell-out crowd, with tickets likely to start from Rs 3,500. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to felicitate Messi during the programme. On the evening of December 13, Messi will travel to Ahmedabad for a private event hosted by the Adani Foundation. The Mumbai leg on December 14 will feature a meet-and-greet at CCI Brabourne followed by the GOAT Concert and GOAT Cup at the Wankhede Stadium. The new addition will be the Mumbai Padel GOAT Cup at the CCI, Brabourne. Sources said Shah Rukh Khan and Leander Paes are among those expected to participate, with Messi possibly playing for five to 10 minutes. The Maharashtra Cricket Association is also planning a 'GOAT moment' pairing Messi with Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in GOAT Captain's moment along with a Bollywood line-up featuring Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan and Tiger Shroff. Renown lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar hit back at a troll who asked him to celebrate Pakistani's Independence Day which falls on August 14, and not India's Independence Day. On the occasion of India's 79th Independence Day, Javed Akhtar had posted on X, 'Happy Independence Day to all my Indian sisters and brothers. Let's not forget this independence was not given to us on a platter. Today we must remember and salute those who Went to jails and those went to gallows for getting us Azaadi . Let's see that we never lose this precious gift.' An X user commented on Akhtar's post in no time. "Aapka happy independence to 14th August hai [Your Independence Day is on August 14]," the post read. This prompted a reply from Akhtar, which many users called "savage". World Elephant Day 2025: Looking out for the gentle giants
Every year, August 12 is observed as World Elephant Day to bring the spotlight on protecting one of the most magnificent animals to walk the earth. This year, Coimbatore played host to the celebrations organised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department. With mitigating human-elephant conflict at the centre of the celebrations, the event brought together top officials from the MoEF&CC, the Forest Department, frontline staff who work tirelessly in the field, and mahouts who care for elephants. Here are some highlights from the event. Honouring unsung heroes Gaj Gaurav Awards were instituted to seven field staff and mahouts from across India in recognition of their work in elephant conservation. S Karthikeyan, Forest Guard and M Murali Anti-Poaching Watcher, both from Dharmapuri Circle, were the awardees from Tamil Nadu. Thirty-four-year-old Murali has been actively involved in risky elephant rescue operations across Forest Circles, while Karthikeyan was honoured for patrols along areas of man-elephant conflict to monitor animal movement. In April this year, he rescued injured elephants at the Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary. 'Elephants entering human habitation tend to fall into open wells when agitated, especially at night when they try to raid crops,' says 32-year-old Karthikeyan. He has observed this up close in villages on the fringes of forests in Hosur. 'Some people light firecrackers to chase elephants that venture into their fields,' he says, adding: 'There are several open, abandoned wells in the region, and the animals get hurt when they slip and fall.' He recalls the recent rescue of one such elephant by his team of ten. 'I urge people living near forests to enclose wells with walls for the sake of elephants,' he says. With love, from Gudalur Gudalur-based socio-environmental enterprise The Real Elephant Collective, known for crafting life-size elephants made of lantana, had displayed a handful of elephants constructed by tribal people from villages in and around Gudalur in the Nilgiri hills. But what stood apart was a small collection of animal and bird miniatures, done with impeccable attention to detail. 'We have 16 pieces as part of the collection, including five birds, eight animals, and trees and bushes,' says Tariq Thekaekara from the Collective. They have been sculpted by hand with wood from Senna Spectabilis, an invasive plant that poses a major threat to the Nilgiri biosphere, removed with support from the Forest Department. While the team's lantana elephants have travelled the world — they have been displayed in the UK, US, apart from several cities in India — they now want to carve birds and animals that are not as popular. These include the Nilgiri tahr, Nilgiri marten, spotted deer, jungle fowl, Indian giant squirrel, hornbill, among others. Hand-carved by tribal women using simple tools, these are animals and birds the people grew up seeing. The miniatures will initially be available for sale in all the Forest Department eco shops in the Nilgiris, Mudumalai, Bandipur and Wayanad, and can also be purchased online soon. While the women are now working from the Collective's office in Gudalur, they will eventually have the freedom to make the figurines from home. With the help of two feisty old elephants and a fierce tusker with a tender heart, she sets out to find it on a full-moon night, braving dark jungles and predators on the lurk. The story will take readers into the workings of an elephant herd, introducing issues such as disappearing forests, man-animal conflict, and elephant behaviour.
