Great British Bake Off's Prue Leith addresses future on show after 'planning to quit'
Dame Prue Leith considered her departure from the Great British Bake Off empire due to its demanding nature but opted to remain in parts of it after a pivotal chat with Love Productions.
Alongside The Great British Bake Off are various spin-offs such as the celebrity edition, Junior Bake Off, and the Great American Baking Show, which Prue found intense, prompting thoughts of stepping down entirely at 85-years-old.
On the Spooning with Mark Wogan podcast, she spoke about the impact of her non-stop schedule since joining the hit Channel 4 series.
She said: "What happened was I thought I've got to have a summer holiday. This is ridiculous, I've been working from April to September without a break for eight years.
"At that point it was for seven years. So, I went to the bosses, 'I'm going to quit. I can't do this anymore'. And it hadn't occurred to me to say, 'Can I quit some of it?'.
"I just thought I had to do it all which was, at the time, Celebrity Bake Off, Great British Bake Off, Great American Baking Show, which is the same thing, and I had been doing junior bake off."
The response was a pleasant surprise to Prue, who acknowledged how amenable the producers were when she broached the subject.
She revealed: "And they said 'Why don't you just quit enough to get the summer holiday you want?' And I said 'Can I do that?' and they said 'Yeah, why don't you choose one that you don't want to do?'
"On the new schedule I'd like to stay for a while. I want to go before I'm pushed. I don't want some poor executive to be told to tell me."
Rumours about her future on the show have circulated before, and Prue has previously addressed them.
Earlier this year, there were reports that Prue's friend, Caroline Waldegrave OBE, would replace her on a celebrity version of Bake Off, the Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer.
In an interview with the Independent, Prue shared her feelings about the show. She said: "I absolutely love working on Bake Off and am looking forward to filming the next series and meeting our new bakers.
"I am only stepping back from the Celebrity series, which is just a question of the filming commitment involved as we make these shows back to back."

BONNIE Blue has been banned from Instagram, just weeks after the backlash she received over her Channel 4 documentary. The adult content creator's antics were laid bare in her fly-on-the-wall show, 1,000 Men And Me: The Bonnie Blue Story - and it did not go down well with viewers. 6 Bonnie Blue has been banned from Instagram Credit: Instagram/@bonnie_blue_xox 6 Her channel 4 documentary was hit by Ofcom complaints Credit: Channel 4 Advertisement 6 Furious viewers have slammed the show for its very X-rated scenes Credit: Channel 4 6 It showed Bonnie's desperate challenge to sleep with 1,000 men in 12 hours Credit: Channel 4 The shocking documentary revealed behind-the-scenes footage fro Bonnie's desperate challenge where she aimed to sleep with 1,000 men in 12 hours. She ended the challenge having had sex with 1057 men, with Channel 4 airing scenes of her naked and having sex with various men. Advertisement Unsurprisingly, fans companied to Ofcom after the doc aired last month. Now in a further blow for Bonnie following the backlash, it has revealed she has been banned from Instagram. Followers of the controversial star who headed to her page today found her handle had been taken down. Instead of getting Bonnie's Instagram grid, they got the message: "This account was removed." Advertisement She is yet to comment one why her account has been axed. This isn't the first time Bonnie has been banned from a platform. It came after she revealed her latest stunt which she was going to call her 'petting zoo' event. If it had gone ahead, the stunt would've seen her tied up and naked in a glass box, and passing men would've been invited 'do what they want' to her. Viewers outraged at Bonnie Blue claiming she is a 'community worker' as she sleeps with 1,000 men in explosive new doc However this was too much for OnlyFans, and they axed her from the site. Advertisement CONTROVERSIAL DOC On July 30, Channel 4 aired Bonnie's controversial doc. However viewers were left raging as they watched the X-rated moment the adult star - real name Tia Billinger - took on the challenge to bed 1000 men. People watching at home immediately took to Ofcom to complain about the explicit scenes. During the programme, Bonnie was seen participating in a bonk-a-thon where she bedded multiple men at once. But viewers were left outraged after Bonnie referred to herself as a "community worker". Advertisement She then said she sees herself as someone who is teaching men how to have better sex and describes the 1,000-men event as 'giving back' to her fans. In the same breath, she argued that she's 'not a world educator' and can't be held responsible for the culture of sexualisation our children are growing up in. 6 The adult content creator bedded multiple men at once Credit: Channel 4 'DISGUSTED VIEWERS' Viewers online were quick to react with many on X branding it "disgusting" while another said that the whole documentary was a "disgrace". Many others took offence to her outrageous comment that her sex acts were a "community service". Advertisement Angry viewers blasted her for "trying to normalise this behaviour" by influencing "impressionable" teenagers with "sick" views. Hundreds of users also expressed their disdain that the documentary was even being aired on TV. One wrote: "Why the hell is Channel 4 showing a documentary about Bonnie Blue....1000 Men & Me." Another commented: "This #bonnieblue documentary is absolutely depressing. "She could have had a dance career. I feel like I'm losing my mind watching this."
