TIRUPPUR: The AIADMK's defeat in the 2026 Assembly election is going to start from the western region, said Chief Minister M K Stalin in Tiruppur on Monday. He was speaking at a welfare assistance distribution event held on behalf of the district administration in Udumalaipet.
Stalin said, 'We see the opposition leader, Edappadi K Palaniswami, calling himself a western region person only when he comes to this area. But I can assure you – more projects have been provided for the development of the western TN under our Dravidian model regime than during the EPS's regime.
We will keep doing this good work. It's not going to change. That's why I say, I don't understand with what courage EPS started his campaign from this area. But, I am sure the AIADMK's 2026 election defeat is going to start from here. He has already seen defeat in the 2024 election, the local body polls, and the byelection in this region. It is going to continue in the upcoming Assembly election as well.'
Stalin said EPS thinks that people will believe him if he speaks his lies loudly through the campaign. 'But, contrary to his thoughts, our government schemes, including 'Ungaludan Stalin' and 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin', have become a big hit among the people.

DMK government sleeping for four years, says Palaniswami

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday alleged that the DMK government was in deep sleep for the last four years and was introducing schemes at the end of its tenure 'to cheat the people'. As part of his Statewide tour, Mr. Palaniswami addressed members of the public at the Krishnagiri roundabout. He said the government, which was in deep sleep for the past four years, was introducing the 'Ungaludan Stalin' and 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' schemes now. 'Law and order is at its worst, and there is no protection for people. There is no safety for the police. Drug menace has increased everywhere. People involved in criminal activities do not fear the police, and the hands of the police have been tied,' he said. Alleging that corruption was rampant under DMK rule, Mr. Palaniswami said that even at Tasmac outlets, ₹10 is additionally collected for every liquor bottle. 'In the past four years alone, ₹22,000 crore went to the 'high command' through this method,' he said. In 2017, the Tamil Nadu government signed up to Ujjwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (Uday) on two conditions. During the four years of the AIADMK government, between 2017 and 2021, power tariff was not increased. But the DMK government hiked the tariff by 67%, citing the Uday scheme as the reason, and the industrial development was affected, he added. Listing the achievements of his government, Mr. Palaniswami said that for Krishnagiri district, a government medical college hospital, worth ₹348 crore, was constructed. But it was not maintained properly now. Earlier, the former Chief Minister met representatives of farmers' associations. In his interaction with them, he said, 'During AIADMK rule, we met farmers and fulfilled their demands.' The AIADMK government introduced schemes for their welfare. It gave compensation for the crops damaged by wild animals. Electric fences were provided to prevent elephants from entering human habitations. After the AIADMK returned to power, a committee would be formed, and based on its recommendations, steps would be taken to prevent animals from entering human habitations, and compensation would be hiked for the families of those killed in man-animal conflicts. Through the lift irrigation scheme, surplus water would be diverted to lakes from Thenpennai River in the district, Mr. Palaniswami added.

Anbumani questions why Stalin's photos are featured heavily in a book about Lord Murugan

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday asked 'when did M.K. Stalin turn into Murugan' after The History of Lord Murugan, a special edition book released to commemorate a Lord Murugan conference held by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department recently, featured numerous photographs of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. In a statement, Dr. Anbumani flagged the allegation that devotees who visited the Murugan temple in Palani were being forced to buy the book, priced at ₹2,700. 'What's worse, most of the pages are filled with the statements and photographs of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and HR and CE Minister P.K. Sekarbabu,' he alleged.

Modi should strongly oppose U.S. imposing 50% tariff, says Chief Minister Stalin

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said in Chennai on Tuesday that the BJP-led Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should strongly oppose the U.S. imposing 50% tariff on Indian imports and both should be open about their position. He was speaking at an event organised jointly by the National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba in India and the CPI(M). When five rounds of trade negotiations between India and the U.S. were completed and a date was being finalised for the sixth round, 'Why should U.S. President [Donald] Trump arbitrarily announce the imposing of additional tariff?', Mr. Stalin asked. Referring to the repeated claims of Mr. Trump that he was behind the ceasefire between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, Mr. Stalin said: 'When the Opposition parties raised queries over that in both Houses of Parliament, Prime Minister Modi did not answer at all. It symbolises his weakness.' Observing that there was a crisis across the world, where there is a need to crush imperialism, Mr. Stalin said imperialist conspiracies did not mean only wars. 'The U.S. imposing 50% tariff on imports from India is also one such conspiracy,' he asserted. 'The BJP-led Union government should strongly oppose this. The Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should provide a transparent reply to this,' Mr. Stalin said. Takes a dig at EPS Talking about the politics in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Stalin said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami had developed a new found love for the Communists in recent days. Contending that people spoke about random topics, Mr. Stalin asked whether Mr. Palaniswami could speak about 'slavery'. 'I want to tell him that none is a slave to nobody. Everyone is wondering if Mr. Palaniswami reads newspapers. Even so, you would surely not read Theekkathir [considered a mouthpiece of the CPI(M)]. If you had read it, you would not be speaking like this. I read Theekkathir every day,' he said. Mr. Stalin said he listened to what Communist leaders spoke whenever he had time. 'They have not stopped flagging issues just because we are in an alliance, and I have not ignored the issues that they have highlighted. Because, half of us are communists. After all, my name is Stalin,' he asserted. Mr. Stalin added: 'We know how to distinguish pointing out with a friendly demeanour from deliberate defamation with ulterior motives. Even this stage symbolises our ideological clarity and friendship.' Minister P.K. Sekarbabu, Cuban Ambassador to India Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera, CPI(M) leaders M.A. Baby, K. Balakrishnan, U. Vasuki, and P. Shanmugam, CPI State secretary R. Mutharasan, Director of The Hindu Publishing Group N. Ram, former MP T.K. Rangarajan, National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba's State secretary A. Arumuga Nainar were present.
