Media cooperation crucial for SDGs, SPIEF session hears
The session, moderated by TV BRICS Chairman Ivan Polyakov, was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, the world's largest corporate initiative for engaging businesses in achieving the SDGs. Panelists agreed on the need to raise awareness of the 2030 Agenda and create a multipolar media space for sustainable development.
Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, said the SDGs are unattainable without the participation of business. She recalled that companies from 160 countries that share principles of responsibility, human rights, and environmental protection have joined the compact.
'The SDGs are focused on the 2030 horizon. But sustainable development, as a model of economic and social development for humanity, will not end by that time,' Valovaya said. 'On the contrary, our task is to make every effort now not only to achieve the goals set, but also to rethink our mentality, economic and social policies during this period so that beyond the 2030 horizon, humanity will continue on the path of sustainable development.'
Natalia Dorpeko, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Network Russia, highlighted the need to disseminate information about the contributions of states and businesses to achieving the goals.
'If there were greater awareness of what each country is doing, what businesses are doing, and what contribution experts, science and education are making to the sustainable development agenda, this would allow us to form new partnerships, create platforms and integrate successes and experience,' the expert emphasised.
Igor Korotetsky, a partner at the audit and consulting company Kept, said insufficient promotion of the 2030 Agenda by governments, businesses, and even the UN was slowing progress. 'In this sense, the media is one of the most important communication tools,' Korotetsky added.
Hector Isidro Arenas Neira, Ambassador of Colombia to the Russian Federation, recalled that his country first initiated the formulation of sustainable development goals. He said constant dialogue between the state, business and society, which the Global Compact facilitates, is important to overcome global challenges like the climate crisis.
Russian business representatives affirmed their commitment to the SDGs. Elena Feoktistova of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) said Russian business continues to implement principles of responsible conduct. Irina Bakhtina, Chief Sustainability Officer at RUSAL, noted that the company has published sustainability reports for 20 years. Zakhar Azarov, an advisor at 'Severstal,' added that the company is deepening partnerships with BRICS countries to transfer successful social and environmental practices.
Vyacheslav Fetisov, First Deputy Chair of the State Duma's Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, also emphasised the growing responsibility of business and the importance of raising environmental awareness.
Reflecting the session's theme, TV BRICS and the UN Global Compact Network Russia signed a media partnership agreement at SPIEF. The parties agreed to cooperate on promoting sustainable development and social responsibility through joint information, cultural, and educational projects.

Egypt, UK FMs Hold Talks on Gaza Ceasefire, Bilateral Ties
Taarek Refaat Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdel Ati held a telephone conversation with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral relations and advancing efforts toward a ceasefire in Gaza, alongside ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged territory. Abdel Ati hailed the recent positive momentum in Egyptian–British relations, underscoring Cairo's determination to elevate ties to a strategic partnership. He emphasized the importance of building on this progress to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly in economic, trade, and investment domains. Turning to the situation in Gaza, Abdel Ati stressed the urgent need for the international community to confront what he described as 'irresponsible and unacceptable' Israeli policies and statements, warning they risk further escalation and violence in the region. He said such actions constitute violations of international law and global norms at a time when regional and international partners are working intensively to halt Israel's ongoing military campaign and allow humanitarian relief into the enclave without conditions. The Egyptian minister welcomed announcements by several Western countries — including the UK — of their intention, or consideration, to recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming UN General Assembly session in September. He underlined that broadening the recognition of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is 'the only path to achieving security and stability for all peoples of the region.' Abdel Ati also listened to Lammy's assessments regarding the recognition issue and its potential implications. The Egyptian foreign minister briefed his British counterpart on Egypt's ongoing efforts to facilitate humanitarian access to Gaza amid what he described as 'catastrophic humanitarian conditions,' calling for international pressure to end the policy of starvation targeting civilians. He also outlined Egypt's preparations, in coordination with the Palestinian government and the United Nations, to host a conference on early recovery and reconstruction immediately after a ceasefire is reached. On his part, Lammy expressed the UK's appreciation and support for Egypt's diplomatic and humanitarian efforts on Gaza, affirming London's readiness to cooperate closely in pursuing peace and stability in the region. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated

Pakistan Condemns, Rejects Statements by Israel Regarding Creation of 'Greater Israel'
SeeNews Pakistan strongly condemns and rejects recent statements made by the Israeli Occupying power, alluding to the creation of so-called 'Greater Israel,' and its designs aimed at the forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. Pakistan calls on the international community to outrightly reject such provocative notions that constitute a flagrant violation of the international law, principles of the UN Charter, as well as the relevant United Nations resolutions. Such statements reflect the occupying power's intention to entrench its illegal occupation, as well as its complete contempt for all international efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region. The international community must take immediate and tangible measures to prevent the occupying power from further destabilizing the region, and to end its ongoing crimes and atrocities against the Palestinians. Pakistan reaffirms its full support for the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated
