Paradise Season 2: Release window, cast updates and plot details
Hulu hasn't announced an official release date yet, but production is already rolling — filming started back in March 2025. Creator Dan Fogelman has said he doesn't want a huge gap between seasons, so the plan is to aim for early 2026. If they stay on schedule, it could even mirror the January 2025 debut of Season 1. Basically, we probably won't have to wait forever — fingers crossed for early next year. Cast Updates: Who's Returning and Who's New?
Good news: most of the main cast is returning. Sterling K. Brown is back as Agent Xavier Collins — the emotional anchor of the show — as he continues unraveling conspiracies while dealing with personal loss. Julianne Nicholson is also returning as Samantha 'Sinatra' Redmond, despite that brutal Season 1 finale. Her character's story is far from over, especially with her grip on bunker power now seriously shaken.
Other returning cast members include Nicole Brydon Bloom (Jane), Krys Marshall (Robinson), Sarah Shahi (Gabriela), Charlie Evans (Jeremy), Aliyah Mastin (Presley), and Percy Daggs IV (James). As for James Marsden's President Cal Bradford — well, let's just say his character's arc might be limited to flashbacks, considering how Season 1 ended.
There are also some fresh faces joining the story. Shailene Woodley is stepping into a big recurring role — she's playing a survivor Xavier meets above ground. Her character's backstory (teased during Comic-Con) reveals she once worked at Graceland, so expect a layered, emotional journey there. Thomas Doherty's also joining as Link, the smooth-talking leader of a biker gang, along with Michael McGrady and Timothy Omundson, who'll play two of his crew, Geiger and Chef. Raymond Cham Jr. and Ryan Michelle Bathé (who's actually Sterling K. Brown's real-life wife) are also coming on board in mysterious roles we don't know much about yet. Plot Details: What's Next for Paradise?
The second season is expected to pick up right after that intense Season 1 finale — the mystery of President Bradford's murder is solved, but plenty of loose threads are still hanging.
This time, the story's going to split into two main fronts: Xavier's journey above ground and all the drama continuing inside the bunker. Outside, Xavier is on a mission to find his wife Teri, who he now believes might still be alive. Along the way, he'll meet survivors trying to rebuild a life in the chaos, totally cut off from the safety and secrets of the bunker. The world outside is rough, raw, and unpredictable — and it'll lean more heavily into the sci-fi side of things as we start understanding what really happened.
Meanwhile, inside the bunker, power struggles are far from over. Sinatra is recovering from her injuries and trying to claw her way back into control. Jane, who shot her, is also getting a spotlight — she's getting a whole standalone episode that reportedly reveals something seriously off about her. Expect a deeper dive into what makes her tick.
Creator Dan Fogelman has already mapped out a three-season arc for Paradise , with each season shifting in tone but keeping the same emotional center. Season 2 will open up new mysteries, introduce new factions, and dig into the bunker's true purpose — all while raising the emotional stakes for Xavier and those around him.

Sterling K Brown Chooses Black Women As Love Interests
Sterling K. Brown knows the importance of representation. In an interview with Refinery29, the Emmy-winning star spoke candidly about regularly having Black women play his love interests — a decision he says is very intentional. Sterling has appeared in over 70 TV and movie projects — and often with a Black love interest by his side — whether that's Susan Kelechi Watson in This Is Us or Teri Rogers-Collins in Paradise. When asked whether he makes those casting decisions "consciously," Sterling confirmed he does. "I'm aware of the sort of Eurocentric standards of beauty that tend to predominate media," he explained. "Light-skin oftentimes is seen as more beautiful than dark-skin, etc. and Brown wants to be someone that sort of shows all of the beauty that is Blackness, right?" He continued, "Brown don't discriminate, to be perfectly honest with you. I understand the power of representation and how often Black women seem to feel unseen by Black men, in particular. And there's so many sisters that are waiting for brothers to be like, 'Hey, man, I'm here for you and whatnot.' And brothers sometimes don't tend to see them." Sterling, who's married IRL to fellow actor Ryan Michelle Bathe, said he's hoping to change that narrative through his casting choices. "I want them to know that SKB sees them," he explained, "and hopefully in the people that he chooses to be paired with onscreen or whatnot, there's an appreciation for them and that they know that they are as beautiful as I know they are." Sterling's comments were met with widespread praise online, with many commending him for using his platform to uplift Black women in such an intentional way. One person wrote, "Well, ok Sterling flips hair over shoulder." Another said in part, "Yes , thank you ! good for himWay too often , its a light skin if not white love interest in tv and movies." Another comment read, "Love him he makes a great point, I think the first time I saw a dark skinned black woman treated as a beauty was the original Vivian in fresh prince, she was stunning." Someone else said, "Ok. I'm in love." "Truly appreciate this from Sterling, representations matters," a fifth fan said, as someone else gushed, "He's perfect." Yes, Sterling!! Now, BRB — I'm going to stream Paradise and This Is Us all over again.

HBO Max Lost Two More Cartoon Network Classics This Week
The current regime at Warner Bros. Discovery—soon to separate into Warner Bros. and Discovery in the near future—has never really liked its animated history. After licensing out old Cartoon Network hits and their sequel shows to different platforms, the company still have a few more shows to kick out of HBO Max. In this case, it's Courage the Cowardly Dog and What's New, Scooby-Doo that are now no longer on the service. Per Deadline, the two youth-aimed horror shows left the service on July 31 after their recent license deals expired. According to the outlet's sources, the recent renaming means classic kids' shows are 'lower priority' when it's time to renew licenses. The good news is, the two shows' individual episodes and full seasons remain purchasable on iTunes, Prime Video, and the like. Odds are by the end of 2025, they'll end up somewhere like Hulu's library, and by extension Disney+. But as many online have noted, the removal of Courage and Scooby means HBO Max has effectively zero Cartoon Network shows that came out prior to 2010. (The only real outlier appears to be Samurai Jack, thanks to its last season airing on Adult Swim.) And its selection of post-2010s shows it has is similarly incomplete. What's there is grandfathered in through some other way, like having an HBO Max offshoot (think Young Justice or Fionna & Cake) or being part of the DC family, like Batman: Brave & the Bold. So no Regular Show or Gumball, you'll have to get those somewhere else. Newer kids shows like Iyanu will wind up on HBO Max after they air on Cartoon Network. But how long will it be before they, too, are cast out of the service and left in some form of limbo? Want more io9 news? Check out when to expect the latest Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek releases, what's next for the DC Universe on film and TV, and everything you need to know about the future of Doctor Who.
