Free Bus Travel For Girls, Women, Transgender In Andhra From August 15
All girls, women, and transgender persons holding Andhra Pradesh domicile are eligible for free bus travel under the 'Stree Shakti' (woman power) scheme, to be launched statewide on August 15, Principal Secretary (Transport, Roads & Buildings) Kantilal Dande said on Monday.
"Beneficiaries include all girls, women, and transgender persons with domicile status in Andhra Pradesh, subject to presenting valid identity proof," Mr Dande said in a government order.
The scheme will be implemented using the existing fleet of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), with additional buses to be procured based on demand, he added. Free travel will apply only to Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, City Ordinary, Metro Express, and Express services.
It will not cover non-stop services, interstate operations, contract carriages, chartered services, or package tours. Saptagiri Express, Ultra Deluxe, Super Luxury, Star Liner, and all air-conditioned services are also excluded, he said.
For passenger safety, the government is considering equipping staff with body-worn cameras and installing CCTV cameras in all buses.
Bus stations will see upgraded amenities such as fans, chairs, drinking water, and toilets.
Mr Dande said the procurement of electric buses and extending the scheme to them could also be considered, subject to Cabinet approval.
Beneficiaries will receive zero-fare tickets, which APSRTC will submit to the government for reimbursement.
Free bus travel for women was a poll promise of the TDP-led NDA government ahead of the 2024 elections.
The scheme is estimated to cost Rs 1,942 crore annually-about Rs 162 crore a month-and aims to empower women by improving access to education, jobs, and mobility, Minister K Parthasarathy had earlier said.

Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu reviewed security for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's visit to Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) here on August 15. The Chief Minister will launch 'Free Bus Service for Women' in the State, at PNBS on Independence Day. Mr. Rajashekar Babu, along with the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) officials went around the bus station and enquired about the security arrangements. He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police S.V.D. Prasad and South Zone ACP, D. Paavan Kumar, to take all measures for the peaceful conduct of the programme. Mr. Rajashekar Babu verified the platforms and the bus station premises and the venue for the launch of the scheme. Earlier, the Police Commissioner visited Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium, where the Independence Day celebrations will be organised in Vijayawada. He instructed the police officers to arrange parking places for VIPs, galleries for students and the general public, and provide bandobust at the IGMC for the I-Day celebrations. Police and the APSP Battalions conducted rehearsals for the Independence Day celebrations in the parade ground.

Cabinet okays 4 semiconductor manufacturing units with Rs 4,600 crore outlay
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday approved four more semiconductor projects under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) with an outlay of Rs 4,600 crore. The four proposals approved are from SiCSem, Continental Device India Private Limited (CDIL), 3D Glass Solutions Inc., and Advanced System in Package (ASIP) Technologies. With these, the total approved projects under the ISM have reached 10, with cumulative investments of around Rs 1.60 lakh crore in six states. "These four approved proposals will set up semiconductor manufacturing facilities with a cumulative investment of around Rs 4,600 crore and are expected to generate a cumulative employment for 2,034 skilled professionals, which would catalyse the electronic manufacturing ecosystem, resulting in the creation of many indirect jobs," a Cabinet communique said. SiCSem and 3D Glass will be set up in Odisha. CDIL is located in Punjab, and ASIP will be set up in Andhra Pradesh. SicSem Private Limited is collaborating with Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd., UK, to establish an integrated facility of silicon carbide-based Compound Semiconductors in Info Valley, Bhubaneshwar. This will be the first commercial compound fab in the country. The project proposes to manufacture silicon carbide devices. This compound semiconductor fab will have an annual capacity of 60,000 wafers and a packaging capacity of 96 million units. The proposed products will have applications in missiles, defence equipment, electric vehicles (EVs), railways, fast chargers, data centre racks, consumer appliances, and solar power inverters, the Cabinet note said. 3D Glass Solutions Inc. (3DGS) will set up a vertically integrated advanced packaging and embedded glass substrate unit in Odisha. This unit will bring the world's most advanced packaging technology to India. The facility will have a large variety of advanced technologies, including glass interposers with passives and silicon bridges, and 3D heterogeneous integration (3DHI) modules. Planned capacity of this unit will be approximately 69,600 glass panel substrates, 50 million assembled units, and 13,200 3DHI modules per annum. The proposed products will have significant applications in defence, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, RF and automotive, photonics and co-packaged optics, etc. According to the Cabinet, the Advanced System in Package Technologies (ASIP) will set up a semiconductor manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh, under a technology tie-up with APACT Co. Ltd, South Korea, with an annual capacity of 96 million units. The manufactured products will find applications in mobile phones, set-top boxes, automobile applications, and other electronic products. Continental Device (CDIL) will expand its discrete semiconductor manufacturing facility at Mohali, Punjab. The proposed facility will manufacture high-power discrete semiconductor devices such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, Schottky Bypass Diodes, and transistors, both in silicon and silicon carbide. The annual capacity of this brownfield expansion will be to the tune of 158.38 million units. The devices manufactured by these proposed units will have applications in automotive electronics, including EVs and their charging infrastructure, renewable energy systems, power conversion applications, industrial applications and communication infrastructure. "These would complement the growing world-class chip design capabilities coming up in the country, which are propelled by design infrastructure support provided by the government to 278 academic institutions and 72 start-ups. Already more than 60,000 students have availed the benefits of the talent development programme," said the Cabinet.

Faisal Patel, son of late Congress stalwart Ahmed Patel, has showered rare praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership during Operation Sindoor, the military response to terror bases in Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. The remarks come at a politically sensitive time, with the Congress party openly criticising the BJP-led Centre over its handling of the operation. Yet Faisal Patel, while reaffirming his association with the Congress, struck a markedly different tone, somewhat echoing Congress MP from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor. Speaking to ANI, Congress stalwart Ahmed Patel's son Faisal was emphatic in his approval of the Modi government's crisis management. 'It can't be better than who's running the show (the central government) ... The armed forces have done a great job, and PM Narendra Modi showed great leadership and brought us out of a huge crisis,' he said. Faisal Patel further applauded the prime minister's approach to choosing capable bureaucrats and elevating them to key ministerial roles. 'I am proud of our armed forces. While clarifying that he remains a Congress member, Faisal Patel did not shy away from voicing his concerns about the party's internal functioning. 'Rahul Gandhi is a hardworking leader. There are some very bright and intelligent leaders in the Congress, like Shashi Tharoor, DK Shivakumar, Revanth Reddy, Deependra Hooda, and Sachin Pilot. They are very capable leaders. There are problems internally, and I believe the right advice is not given to seniors who are running the party... Their advisors are not doing a good job. They come and go. The senior leaders' advice is not heeded,' he remarked. Patel said he has taken a 'sabbatical from public life' but has not left the party. 'I am not upset with the Congress at all. The whole party is my family, and I have good relations with the senior leaders of the party... I am still in the Congress party... I just exist in Congress... The people of Gujarat and the local leaders have wonderful things to say about me,' he said. The late Congress leader's son also expressed strong confidence in India's defence apparatus and the current leadership's commitment to national security.
