Chief Secretary calls for clear communication in civil service
Speaking at the 'Reformasi Satu Kemestian' session, he highlighted how technical terms create confusion among the public.
'For instance, when the SST issue arises, we tend to explain it as if we are speaking to professors, senior government officers or those with financial and accounting backgrounds.
'In reality, 85 per cent of people out there want plain, everyday language,' he said.
The event marked the first anniversary of public service reforms and was attended by Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz and nearly 1,000 civil servants.
Shamsul Azri stressed the need for clearer communication to bridge gaps between government officials and lower-income groups.
'In meetings, I've stressed the importance of using simple language and avoiding too much 'bahasa Putrajaya',' he added.
He also directed corporate communication units to refine their messaging for grassroots understanding.
'Many problems occur because of communication gaps between young, middle-aged and older groups.
'We must adapt our communication style so that everyone can understand clearly,' he said.
The event also saw the launch of four digitalisation circulars aimed at improving government service delivery.
These include guidelines on public sector portals, telecommunications networks, integrated communication services, and public key infrastructure.
The circulars align with the National Digital Department's efforts to enhance digital governance under the Public Service Reform Agenda. – Bernama

'God willing, while I will take follow-up measures to enhance security, I will not yield to any threats and will continue to perform my duties as usual,' he said. Malaysiakini earlier reported that Rafizi's son was attacked in a mall car park in Putrajaya, with Sepang police confirming the incident. In a statement later, youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh expressed her sympathies to Rafizi and his family, and called for the authorities to investigate the matter immediately and ensure public safety. 'No one, let alone a child, should be a victim of violence. Such things should not happen in a peaceful country like Malaysia with laws and efficient enforcement. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has condemned the 'vile and treacherous' attack on the son of former economy minister Rafizi Ramli at a shopping mall in Putrajaya today. In a Facebook post, Anwar said he had contacted home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ensure that a transparent and speedy investigation is carried out into the incident. 'We have yet to recover from the issue of bullying in schools, and now, another deeply regrettable act has occurred … a vile and treacherous attack on the son of our brother Rafizi. 'I am praying for the wellbeing of Rafizi and his family,' he said. Earlier today, the Pandan MP said his 12-year-old son was dragged and stabbed with a syringe by an assailant at about 1.45pm as his son and wife were getting into their car. The former PKR deputy president described the attack as unprecedented in his political career and believed that it was meant as a warning for him to stop speaking out on certain issues. In a statement, Saifuddin said the police would conduct a full and impartial investigation. Ex-head of Civil Division in AGC among 23 individuals appointed judicial commissioners
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 13 — Former head of the Civil Division in the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) Datuk Donald Joseph Franklin was among 23 individuals appointed as Judicial Commissioners (JC) today. Also appointed was J. Kuldeep Kumar, the lawyer who previously defended former chief inspector Azilah Hadri, one of two individuals convicted of the 2006 murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu. Kuldeep, 55, was also involved in Azilah's review application last year to commute his death sentence to a 40-year prison term. Meanwhile, Donald, 59, had previously held various posts, including deputy head of the Research Division and deputy head of Division I of the Civil Division in the AGC, before he was appointed as head of the Civil Division. Others included Datin Asmah Musa, head of the Trials Unit in the AGC's Appellate and Trials Division; former Malaysian Bar president (2019 and 2020) Datuk Abdul Fareed Gafoor and deputy head II of the prosecution division at the AGC, Syed Faisal Syed Amir. A total of 13 lawyers, including Kuldeep and Abdul Fareed were appointed as Judicial Commissioners. They are Isa Aziz Ibrahim, Dr Seow Hock Peng, Shahriza Zalina Abdul Shukor, Helmi Hamzah, Rajes Raghavji, Datuk Mohd Aimi Zaini Mohd Azhar, Samry Masri, Moh Kok Wai, Shamsul Bahrin Abdul Manaf, Datuk Muhammad Adam @ Edward Abdullah and Avinder Singh Gill.
