59-year-old man gets 20 years in jail for sexual assault on 12-year-old girl

Yamunanagar: A court here has sentenced a 59-year-old man to 20 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
Additional district and sessions judge Ranjana Aggarwal on Thursday convicted Sadhaura resident Om Chandra alias Chandgi Ram under sections 65 (2) (rape) and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act.
The case dates to Aug 29, 2024, when a woman from a village under Sadhaura police station alleged that her daughter had gone missing and she rescued her from the cattle shed owned by the convict, after hearing her cries from a distance. The woman had alleged that the man had attempted to sexually assault her, but she was rescued before. The man had fled when the woman raised the alarm outside his shed.
A spokesperson for Yamunanagar police said assistant sub-inspector Sharmila had carried out the probe, and meticulous arrangement of evidence had helped in the quick conviction and sentencing of the man. "The software engineer told us that he had requested the woman help at the PG accommodation on Saturday to tie a Rakhi to him, sent by his sister," Zol said. He said the couple invited the victim to their room, where the woman's two relatives were already there. All of them had liquor and lunch there. After treatment, the software engineer on Sunday lodged a complaint against the man. "We have arrested the suspect," he said. Gurgaon: Days after a woman was sexually harassed at Rajiv Chowk, a 32-year-old man was arrested. The incident had taken place on Aug 2 at 11am. Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar (ASI) said Abhilash Kumar, an MTech, was arrested from Sector 49 on Monday. The arrest was made after reviewing hundreds of CCTV camera footage and conducting a detailed technical investigation, police said. "Abhilash, from Bahadur Chand Colony in Karnal, had been residing at a rented house in Sector 11. He is married with one child and works as an assistant manager in a private company," the police spokesperson said. During questioning, Kumar admitted to stopping at Rajiv Chowk on Aug 2 while returning from his son's parent-teacher meeting and committing the act, Kumar added. Police registered a case under sections 75(2) (sexual harassment) and 78 (stalking) of BNS.
