Time Out Dubai23-05-2025

If you haven't noticed already, we're mad about food here at Time Out Dubai.
And Atlantis The Royal has some great dining spots. From Persian and Greek to medieval British and afternoon tea, you can get your hands on a lot at this iconic hotel.
Here is a breakdown of all the restaurants at Atlantis The Royal.
Ariana's Persian Kitchen
Cuisine: Persian
TV chef and cookbook author Ariana Bundy brought her Persian flavours to the city. Famed for her 'Pomegranates and Roses: My Persian Family Recipes' and television travel show Ariana's Persian Kitchen, Ariana's Kitchen will serve up modern twists on Persian classics.
Head to Ariana's and you'll step into a world of mellow, perfumed, Persian dishes, where fruits, nuts, herbaceous plants and floral fragrances merge with meats, grains and vegetables.
One dish on the menu that Bundy loves? 'The kubideh. This dish has a cult following,' she said to Time Out Dubai.
The female-led concept is a fresh, modern take on Iranian cuisine, serving Persian classics spun with a refreshingly modern twist in terms of textures, ingredients and presentation.

Cloud 22
Cuisine: French-Mediterranean
A pool club in the sky, Cloud 22 features a large infinity pool over the epic view it's afforded from being on the 22nd floor. Here you'll find cabanas, live DJs and a special VIP section. There will also be a French Mediterranean menu on offer to enjoy while you relax.
Cloud 22 is instagrammable, to say the least. With multiple pools and hot tubs spread across the venue, we expect Cloud 22 will be one of the hottest spots to enjoy an oyster or two while seeing the sunset.
Unwind in one of its duplex cabanas, while you see the Arabian Gulf stretch out before you as you lounge in one of the floating round sunbeds.
Sun-Wed 10am-8pm. Thu-Sat 10am-11pm. Atlantis The Royal, 22nd floor (04 426 2626).

Heston Blumenthal's Dinner by Heston
Cuisine: Medieval British
First announced back in 2018, the British experimental chef behind The Fat Duck, Heston Blumenthal, has brought his creative spark and innovative gastronomy dishes to Dubai in his first restaurant in the city – Dinner By Heston Blumenthal. The restaurant takes a historic look back at British medieval cuisine from the 1300s.
One of the world's most unique and exciting restaurants, Dinner is a relaxed and informal dining experience. The menu delves into British gastronomy's past, with dishes bearing historical dates and stretching back as far as the 14th century.
All dishes are accompanied by an eclectic selection of global grapes, with a lively bar offering a bespoke range of drinks, distillations, and infusions. Experiential dining at its best, expect the unexpected.
His iconic and signature dishes, such as the meat fruit, a playful mandarin and chicken liver parfait, and jovially named tipsy cake, a spit roast pineapple dessert circa 1810, are world-renowned.

Tourist warned of 'strict' law in popular summer holiday spot

Holidaymakers heading to this country could face fines for flouting this rule Holidaymakers travelling to Canada this summer are being warned of a mistake that could land them in trouble. The north American country has been named one of the biggest travel destinations for 2025, with more UK tourists than ever expected to holiday there this summer. Canada's long coastlines, vibrant cultures, incredible wildlife and of course their world-famous maple syrup are just a few reasons tourists are choosing to explore the it. To help travellers prepare for their Canadian adventure, travel experts at North American tour operator, Journeyscape have compiled a list of the biggest culture shocks tourists may encounter when visiting. ‌ From street drinking, to restaurant service etiquette, holidaymakers should be aware of the very different Canadian rules. ‌ Pubs and alcohol laws One of the biggest culture shocks between the UK and Canada is the difference in drinking culture. Beer, wine, and spirits are sold through provincially-owned and private liquor stores. In Ontario, for example, alcohol is primarily available at government-regulated LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) stores. While you may find some supermarkets sell beer, it's uncommon, and other alcoholic beverages must be purchased from the LCBO. ‌ Canada also has a strict policy when it comes to drinking in public. Unlike some parts of the UK, where enjoying a drink outdoors is common, in Canada, being caught with an open bottle on the street could result in a $100 (£54) fine. Sales tax is added at checkout Another big culture shock for British travellers visiting Canada is that the price you see on the shelf isn't the price you'll actually pay. Whether you're shopping for groceries, clothes, or household items, all displayed prices are pre-tax, unlike in the UK where VAT is already added on to the price shown. ‌ Sales tax, or HST, consists of two components: an 8% provincial tax and a 5% federal tax, meaning you'll likely need to add 13% to the price you see. This can be tricky to manage, so it's important to know this before your trip to avoid any surprises at checkout. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! In Canada, however, tipping is more than just a custom, it's a well-established social norm. Even though it's technically not mandatory, it's highly expected across many services, and failing to leave a tip can be perceived as rudeness. The general rule of thumb is to tip between 15-20%, though some restaurants may prompt you to tip as high as 30%. It's important to factor in tips when visiting restaurants, bars, and cafes to avoid any awkward encounters.

Harry Potter reboot risks fan backlash over 'unexpected filming location'

Filming for the new Harry Potter reboot, which is being adapted for the small screen, is said to be underway, after the three main actors were announced last week Harry Potter reboot is said to be risking backlash from fans as the show films scenes in an "unexpected location". The HBO TV reboot is due to start filming in the Île de Sein off Brittany, despite the story being set in Britain. Producers have reportedly chosen the French location to set scenes for the hit where Hagrid appears to announce: "You're a wizard, Harry." However, the books detail that the hut is located on an island off Cornwall and not France. ‌ But, bosses are said to have chosen the different location to portray the iconic scene. However, it's been reported that some of the crew have found the choice amusing as they could've found a suitable place closer to home. ‌ The Sun reported that a TV insider said: "This caused a certain amount of amusement among the British crew who all agreed that they could have easily got windswept in virtually any part of the British Isles. They've been slightly bewildered by the fact they've actually gone to France to make a show which is so British — particularly since it's the first place they've gone to and they're doing key scenes there. "For fans it's likely to be a sign that with American producers running the show, it might not be as mindful of Harry Potter as a national treasure that shouldn't be tampered with." Around 30 people are said to be at Pointe du Raz on the west coast of Brittany and have been travelling by boat to the island each day. ‌ It's thought that there is a supposedly haunted 19th century lighthouse on the island which might be used as the hut in the TV series. The iconic Harry Potter franchise films were all made in the studio or on location in Britain. Locations such as London, Bath, Durham and the Scottish Highlands were used as filming locations. Warner Bros has invested millions in expanding its studio at Leavesden, near Watford for the filming on the TV reboot. This comes after it was announced last week which actors would be taking on the main three roles in the show - Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin would be taking on the lead role previously played in the movies by Daniel Radcliffe. ‌ He will be working alongside fellow rising stars Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Hagrid, which was previously played by late actor Robbie Coltrane, will now be taken over by Nick Frost instead. Albus Dumbledore will be played by actor John Lithgow will be the wizard school's headmaster Albus Dumbledore and Paul Whitehouse will appear as Hogwarts' caretaker Argus Filch.
