Setback for Sena (UBT) as ‘Kesari' Chandrahar Patil joins Shiv Sena
At the formal induction ceremony held in Thane, Shinde took a dig at the Sena (UBT) leadership without taking names.
Welcoming Patil into the party, Shinde said, 'You have moved from a fake arena (Sena UBT) to the real battleground (Shinde led Sena). You are coming from those who play tricks to those who play with a clean heart.' He praised Patil for his achievements in traditional wrestling and compared political strategy to wrestling moves.
Other who joined the party along with Patil included Santosh Aba Vetal (first Hind Kesari from Satara), wrestler Vikas Patil and sarpanch Sagar Vanjari of Saygaon.
Patil, who was once seen as a close aide of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, contested the Lok Sabha elections on a Shiv Sena (UBT) ticket from Sangli constituency and lost. His candidature had become a major flashpoint in the fragile Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, as Congress and Sena (UBT) struggled to come to terms on seat-sharing.
Both the Congress and the Sena UBT were vying for the Sangli seat. However, since Patil had joined Sena UBT just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the party was keen keen on contesting from the Sangli seat and that had strained the relations between the two alliance partners.
Chandrahar Patil's shift to the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde is now being viewed as both symbolic and strategic, potentially opening up new political alignments ahead of the upcoming civic body elections.

'Want To Make India Game Development Capital': Centre On Online Gaming Bill
New Delhi: The government wants to make India the 'game development capital of the world' and hopes the proposed Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 - tabled in the Lok Sabha Wednesday afternoon - will set the country's game development industry on that path. The intent is clear, S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, told NDTV. The bill creates a category for 'safe' online games, i.e., e-sports and online social games, and the development of these will be backed by the government. It also cracks down on money-based games and gaming platforms offering gambling opportunities, including poker, rummy, and other card games, arguing these lure people with false promise of large and quick payouts and lead to financial and emotional distress. The point of difference between these two categories - i.e., 'skill' vs 'chance' - has been a grey area for quite some time, allowing some operators to cloak gambling games as 'skill-based'. "One of the issues that came up repeatedly in meetings with the gaming sector is clarity on classification. Parts of the sector believe some people and platforms are causing financial and social distress, related to addiction, and that are tarred by association," Mr Krishnan told NDTV. "One part of the gaming industry is doing that whereas another is more positively oriented... in terms of gamification creative content development. That portion needs to be encouraged. For that, a clear delineation needs to be made and has been offered in this bill..." he said. Mr Krishnan also said concerns over online money games, or online gambling platforms, had been flagged by political leaders from different parties, including those from the opposition. "The point here is between 'skill' and 'luck'... this grey area was used to argue what suited operators in different jurisdictions. But there are no game of pure chance... that is like a coin toss, and the outcome should be 50-50. That doesn't happen in these games," he explained. It also proposes stricter oversight of platforms, particularly those offering real-money games, such as poker. Sources said people who play these games are victims (and) will not be punished... but there will be action against those who run real money gaming platforms, facilitate transactions, etc. Last week, in connection with a federal investigation into illegal betting apps - which masquerade as 'a game of skill' to appear different from gambling games, which are outlawed by Indian laws - sources told NDTV this 'market' is worth Rs 8.3 lakh crore and is growing at 30 per cent annually.

'We are going back to medieval times': Rahul Gandhi slams PM, CM removal bills
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday weighed in on the new bills proposing to remove a sitting Prime Minister, chief ministers and ministers in states and UTs, and said the move indicates that India was going back to medieval times. There three bills -- The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, which covers the PM and states, plus Delhi NCT; The Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, and The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, propose to remove the people from these key posts if they are arrested for over 30 days on charges that have jail terms of at least five years. The Opposition has been speaking against these proposed legislations, because they speak of action on mere allegations and not on proven guilt. Rahul Gandhi's remarks on the proposed bills came hours after the government referred them to a joint parliamentary committee. Union Minister Amit Shah moved the three bills in Parliament today, drawing fierce opposition. Opposition MPs tore up copies of the bills and some members trooped into the well and raised slogans. Among those opposing the bills are IMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress' Manish Tewari and K C Venugopal. "I condemn it as a step towards something that is more than a super-Emergency, a step to end the democratic era of India forever. This draconian step comes as a death knell for democracy and federalism in India," Banerjee tweeted. Meanwhile, Owaisi has argued that the bills violate the principle of separation of powers - the Parliament, the executive (or government), and judiciary. Opposition's argument is that the bills stand to "change the provision of innocent until proven guilty" as it proposes to have a sitting PM, CMs and ministers lose their positions based on arrests or detention of 30 consecutive days on a charge that has a jail term of at least five years.
