Home Ministry awaits report on officers in flying passport bribery case
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the ministry will receive the report from Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.
'Let him (Shuhaily) handle it first... I believe we have placed the right person in the right position,' Saifuddin told reporters after officiating the 53rd anniversary celebration of the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) at Dataran Kulim.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recently arrested four enforcement officers for allegedly accepting bribes of around RM3,000 to facilitate 'flying passport' activities at the Johor-Singapore border. Two were detained by AKPS' Compliance Unit during an inspection, while two others were arrested for suspected collusion.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin urged RELA members to acquire new skills and improve training to broaden their functions. He highlighted the need for RELA to expand beyond traditional roles like traffic control and disaster response.
'This shift aims to elevate RELA's role to include responsibilities in sensitive areas such as border control. Of course, RELA will not act alone. Its purpose is to complement and support existing enforcement agencies,' he said.
The ministry will also assess RELA's needs, particularly concerning personnel welfare. - Bernama

SEPANG: A farmer was fined RM15,000, in default six months in jail, by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to making and initiating the transmission of offensive communications regarding the 3R issue (race, religion and royalty) via his Facebook page last February. Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman meted out the fine on Mohammad Faisal Mohd Yusof, 37, after he changed his plea to guilty when the case came up for mention today. Before meting out the sentence, the judge advised Mohammad Faisal to be more careful when posting on social media. "You deleted the comment, but look what has happened, it persists even after deletion. You're still young, you need to think long and hard," he said. Mohammad Faisal was charged with knowingly making and initiating the transmission of offensive comments with the intention of annoying others using the Facebook account 'Mohd Faisal Yusof'. The posting was made at 12.40 am on Feb 9 and was seen by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) at 1.40 pm the same day at MCMC Tower 1, Jalan Impact, Cyber 6, Cyberjaya. The charge, under Section 233 (1) (a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, provides a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year or both and may be further fined RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.

Two men accused of robbing Chinese national of RM2.1mil
KUALA LUMPUR: Two friends pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here on Friday (Aug 8) to a charge of gang robbery against property belonging to a female Chinese national, involving losses amounting RM2.1mil, last month. Mohd Syaqir Mohd Ami, 30, and Nur Mohamed Mahsar Mohamed Nor, 34, were jointly charged with two other individuals who are still at large with committing gang robbery against property belonging to Chen Kexue, 31. The assets include a branded wristwatch worth RM1.2mil, three gold bars weighing 300g, RM100,000 in cash and five mobile phones of various brands, with an estimated loss of RM2,146,000, at a villa in Bukit Damansara here, at 10.10pm on July 21. The charge was brought under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping, if convicted. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nidzuan Abdul Latif did not offer bail because the offence is non-bailable, and also requested the court to consider the offence serious, involving high losses. "If the court grants bail, there is a risk of the accused fleeing because during the arrest, one of the accused tried to escape. "However, if the court grants bail, I request that each accused be granted bail of RM60,000 along with the additional condition that they must report to the nearest police station and surrender their passports to the court," he said. Lawyer Hazwan Hassan, representing the two men, requested the court to grant his clients bail between RM10,000 and RM15,000 with certain additional conditions, as bail is only to ensure the accused's attendance in court. Mohd Syaqir works as a salesman and earns RM2,000 per month. He supports his mother, who has stage four cancer, and he just recovered from paralysis after being involved in an accident in August last year. "Meanwhile, Nur Mohamed Mahsar, who also works as a salesman and earns RM2,000 a month, has to support his wife and two young children," the lawyer said, adding that there was no risk of the two accused fleeing. Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin, who set the case mention for Sept 30, granted bail of RM15,000 to each accused, along with additional conditions requested by the prosecution. – Bernama
